Hi, y'all. I have a fairly robust rig (a quad-core machine with 16 gig of RAM) running a GTX 670 card and Windows 7, and I'd like to set it up for a triple-monitor orientation. Mainly for games and video editing work.

My first question involves the monitors. Do all three have to have the same resolution and refresh rates?

With surround all monitors need to have the same resolution. I aspect although you can use for example 2 monitors with 60hz and 1 with 120hz, all will be set to 60hz when you activate surround mode. I would suggest that for video editing or any other desktop use you activate extended desktop.

Thanks, and that leads me to my next question. The monitor I have now is 16:10 ratio, 1680x1050 @60Hz, and it's running through the DVI port. If I ran three monitors, one would have to run off of the card's HDMI port.

So my next question is over which'd be better:
buy two more 16:10 monitors of the above specs, and run them through the DVI and HDMI ports,
or buy three 16:9 monitors that run at 1920x1080, and run them through the HDMI and DVI ports.

I would buy 3x 1920x1080 monitors. Same manufacturer, same model and same batch. DVI and HDMI has the same digital signal, so which ports u use shouldn’t matter.
