Post subject:  Screen tearing with adaptive v-sync

I posted this on the evga forums (http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1555378) but didn't really get much help:

"So I just got my evga gtx 680 today and happily replaced my old gtx 465's in SLI. It's running like a dream - much quieter, much cooler, more powerful and requires less juice. I'm using the 301.24 beta drivers.

But in all the games I've tried so far - Batman: Arkham City, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Skyrim, and Diablo 3 Beta - when I enable adaptive v-sync in the nvidia control panel for these games (individually, not global) I get my FPS locked at 60 but I still get massive screen tearing as if v-sync wasn't enabled at all. I disabled normal v-sync in all those games, by the way (I only enabled adaptive v-sync in the control panel).

I've got the evga precision running and I have the "Sync" box unchecked (tried it with the box checked, no difference). Also, I have the frame rate target as Max FPS although I have tried it with 60fps and I still got tearing.

By the way, I'm running 3 screens (two in the DVI ports, one in the hdmi by way of HDMI male to DVI female adapter) at 5960x1080 resolution (bezel corrected).

Anyone else run into this issue or know a fix? Thanks in advance."

One guy posted there that he's having the same issue with surround and adaptive v-sync. It's annoying because adaptive v-sync was one of the features of the 680 I was looking forward to.

If I had to guess, I would say your issue, is related to this one: http://www.wsgf.org/forum/forums/multi-monitor-gaming/nvidia-surround-gaming/21358/lower-frame-rates-side-monitors-680

Your probably better off going to Nvidia directly.

Yeah I'll probably end up making another post on Nvidia's forums. I just wanted to see if anyone around here with a single 680 running in surround is able to use adaptive v-sync without tearing.

By the way, did Nvidia get rid of their 2d-surround forums? I can't seem to find them anymore. I only see 3d-surround.

Post subject:  Well if I read how adaptive

Well if I read how adaptive V-Sync works, you will get tearing if your frame rate is not at your refresh rate (I.E. 60 FPS). Turn on Regular V-Sync and force Triple Buffering in all with D3DOverdriver. Have fun, now you have your frame rate and no tearing. Adaptive V-Sync is only useful in games that don't support Triple Buffering.

Post subject:  Looks like he is running at

Looks like he is running at 60 fps. If that is his native refresh maybe it is a surround problem.

After reading about adaptive vsync I cannot help but wonder who it is targeted at. The number of PC users who want some vsync and some tearing and no triple buffering cannot be that signifigant. Newer games with vsync use TB and older games can be driver forced or use third-party options. Plus older games may not even need TB on newer machines.

Maybe it is more attractive for consoles and the 30fps games for some reason.

Post subject:  Just to add, if you are using

Just to add, if you are using an OpenGL game triple buffering adds no latency so adaptive vsync is kind of pointless over vsync + tb unless your CPU is garbage.
