Post subject:  2 x GTX580 or 1 x GTX590

I used to run a duel monitor set-up.

1 x GTX580 with 2 x Hazro HZ27WD 27" Screens at 2560x1440 resolution.

I have just purchased a 3rd Hazro and to get it up and running have installed an old GT240.

Everything is running fine for windows 7.

If i want to run games accross all 3 monitors am I better replacing the GT240 with another GTX580, i.e. I have 2 x GTX580 or should I replace both cards and go for a GTX590?

Option 1:
2 x GTX580
Option 2:
1 x GTX590

or is there a third option that is better?

I want to play Modern Warefare 3 across 3 monitors. (never done this before, so, tips on how to do this and the best set-up would be helpful).

Many Thanks

Jon

2 x 580's. I believe the 590 cant use 3 dual-link dvi connections. Also 2 x 580's would be faster than a single 590. You may want to look into getting two 3GB versions of the 580 as 1.5GB VRAM is not really enough these days.

False! ;)) I use a GTX 590 for 3D Vision Surround;)) so It fully supports 3Dual Link DVI connections. 2x 580 are faster true;)) but eat significantly a lot more power and make more noise;)) So take into account the PSU of if you want to go on 2x580;)) In your case I would say get another 580 cheaper than buying a 590;)) but be sure your PSU handles both of them;))

Post subject:  sounds like some good advice

sounds like some good advice there, i was in the same situation as yourself,
i had the asus matrix gtx580 and desperatley wanted to upgrade and wanted to go the triple monitor route.
do i get another 580 the cheaper option but then theres the noise, power consumption, and the extra heat, plus can my psu handle two 580s
or do i sell my 580 and put it towards a single 590 which is clocked slower than the 2 580s but less noisey, alot less power hungry and quieter

i decided to go with the 590 but man was they expensive, i was recently in florida for a week and i tried to get one from there. i would have made quite
a saving because of the pound vs dollar but could i get one from anywhere....no
they was all mail order. i lost count of the amount of stores i went in to try and pick one up
they all said the same thing we can order one in. i couldnt chance it me going back home and having the card delivered to my hotel after lol

anyway i got one from ebay from hong kong for £503 free p+p
as soon as i paid for the card i then put my 580 on ebay for £350 buy it now for a ten day listing
i thought it will prolly sell within or just over a week... within 2 hours someone bought it
so i had to post it to them leaving me with no usable pc for 6days
it was the worst 6 days of my life lol

but when the 590 arrived i was chuffed to bits
i did a couple of benchmarks eg heaven 2.5
and it doubled the score of the 580
the 580s max frame rate was the minimum of the 590
games were smoother,, the system hogs like crysis and metro 2033 played loads better
and i could actually play arma 2 at a playable and smooth frame rate.
so yes 2 580s will be quicker than a single 590 but there will be a price to pay for having them#

and there the fact that i didnt have to upgrade my psu
which is a silverstone 500watts ... i know ppl will and have said that you need a 750 watt psu to run a 590!!! wrong i obviously dont
and i havnt had any probs
i also have the following in my rig
3 cathode neons
a corsair h60 water pump
lcd fan controller
geil cyclone ram cooler
3 hds
1 ssd
7 case fans
and a dvd drive

I have 2 x 3gb 580's and love them. They do produce a lot of heat, but with the right setup, it's not a prob. Love them...and have never had a drama.

2 GTX580 3GB are significantly better for surround than a single GTX590. For one, the VRAM is twice as much on the GTX580 3GB. The GTX590 only addresses 1.5GB of ram per GPU which is not ideal for surround. When you're pushing 3x 1440p you really need the VRAM.

If you can get cards with more VRAM, that's always the better option when it comes to Surround. :)
