I have Matrox TH2Go for FSX and wondering if a second GTX 580 using Nvidia Surround provide me with better frames per second? Anyone switch from TH2go to 2 x Nvidia cards and get better FPS? Any advantages in going that route though the GTX's are expensive? Thanks in advance.

In most games you'll get killer FPS with 2 580's.

What res are your screens?

You will see a performance increase from one 580 to 2x 580s generally, but you may not necessarily get better performance with Nvidia Surround over the TH2Go alone - and I have read that FSX is more CPU dependent and that SLI can even slow down FSX - but don't take my word for it, I just vaguely remember reading that somewhere. If you play other games besides FSX, then I'd say it might be worth the investment, but that depends primarily on your screen resolution.

The advantages of going to NVIDIA Surround are being able to use resolutions above 5040x1050, it's generally easier to setup (in my experience), and you get "improved" bezel management support. I put improved in quotes, because some people prefer the TH2Go's bezel management. If none of those matter to you, then there probably isn't much point in switching.

Thanks for the replies. The monitors are Samsung's 1920 x 1200. FSX very CPU dependent but a new sim to replace FSX called Flight is being made. Got a 2600K being made in my spare time for FSX. FPS is my main concern. Can I get 1920 x 1200 with 2 x GTX 580's? That would be a deal breaker. Since 24" monitors are cheaper now, would I be better off getting a 3 of 1920 x 1080 units vs the 1920 x 1200? Two of my Samsung units broke, and getting fixed under warranty, taking for ever. Thinking of selling them off and getting 3 x 23" AOC units that run 1920 x 1080 6.3 lbs, slim and less power, 23watts vs 100 of the Samsungs (that keep breaking). Out of 4 units only one works, and warranty takes a long time.

Sorry to hear about the monitors - I had a few Samsungs myself and had the same problems.

I'm not sure I completely understand your question, but if you're asking about surround resolutions, you can do up to 3x2560x1600, so yes - you can do 3x1920x1200 (aka 5760x1200). The performance difference between 5760x1200 and 5760x1080 is minimal as far as performance goes, so you wouldn't see a significant difference in changing screens. Completely up to you.

I'm under the impression that SLI has never scaled at all in FSX, so SLI is broken for the game. The 3d engine for FSX is one strange animal. No other games behave like it.

I was thinking keep it simple, thus triplehead no 3d most likely would work the best. I know some really like 3d but for the expense, keeping it TH2go 2d.

In a flight sim 3D has marginal effect. It only works good if things are constantly shifting in front of your field of vision up close. In a flight sim you're often several thousand feet in the sky, so depth perception is almost totally killed.

Most of my flying is in a Dodo sim Bell 206 Helicopter. That being said.. for the coin, having to wear the glasses, setting it up
just for fsx, doesn't seem worth the trouble. Plus those flights you mentioned, where the altitude is high, thus not a lot of need for 3d. The guys that have it really like it, but 3 x 120hz monitors, the cards to run it, the glasses.. :nudgenudge And apparently it may cause headaches in some cases. I was almost caught up in the 3d hype.
