I've been using TH2GO for many, many years now. I always thought that more of a Hardware Solution was better than a software solution. Now, given TH2GO has some drawbacks, I would assume Nvidia Surround does as well.

So I ask, maybe some of you that use to be TH2GO users who converted to Nvidia Surround, is it worth the switch?

Thanks

I was an early triple-head gaming guy myself. I started with Matrox's Parhelia card back in 2002, and then had a TH2GO Digital when it was first available. Great product IMHO... although some minor negatives.

I've been running Nvidia Surround for awhile now. Bezel compensation works very nicely, and I've been fortunate enough not to have any hardware issues. The driver software, however, kinda sucks. If I want to do "work" and use the three monitors, I turn off surround mode because the windows management built into the drivers is horrible. Luckily, you can, if you desire, use Matrox's desktop software with Nvidia surround. Not the best either, but at least it is a choice.

Ultimately, I made the switch because I wanted to do 3D Surround which, of course, won't work with the Matrox box. Further, although it has been awhile, I thought the Matrox has some upper resolution limits.... but I could be remembering it incorrectly.

Hope that helps....

Yeah, the DVI version maxes out at 5040x1050@59Hz due to the limitation of the DVI spec. TH2GO can do 5760x1080 but you have to drop the refresh rate down to 50Hz to get in under the DVI Bandwidth cap. Finding monitors that are affordable that do that low of a refresh rate is very difficult, and I already spent too much money on the monitors I have.

I was looking to do 5760x1200@60Hz. Each of my monitors can do 1920x1200. I have two Nvidia 560Ti's that I can use for Nvidia Surround, or, I can SLI those bad boys and feed them into the Matrox, but again maybe Nvidia Surround matches an SLI setup for widescreen framerates, I don't no...so confusing.....

However, like you said, I'm very happy with the day to day computing with windows management with my TH2GO. Everything I want to do always just "works". Many games don't scale well or play well across large screens...Trying to scroll across a CoH screen with three monitors...HAHAHA, that's a funny thing to watch. So those games I scale back to just 1 monitor at 1920x1200. Matrox activates the center monitor, others go blank, like I said it just works.

However, some games, like Bioshock and Batman don't scale well with the Matrox, the FOV and menus are all screwed up, but I heard they scale correctly with Eyefinity and Nvidia Surround. Arghhh,......

Ah, decisions, decisions. Thanks for your opinion

If you haven't read this then, I would highly recommend it: http://www.wsgf.org/article/red-vs-green-vs-blue-v2

Nvidia Surround offers far more than the TH2G now, and turns off the outside monitors when running a game at a single monitor resolution. There is nothing the TH2G can do that Nvidia Surround cannot, but Nvidia Surround can do more than the TH2G.
