| Post subject: | Battle of the Budget 24" LCD: SOYO DYLM24E6 vs. DELL 2 |
I hope my posting will be of help to someone :) 24" LCDs are comming down in price and these two are the cheapest I've seen around. maybe someone is looking at one of these models have some questions I had the 3x SOYO DYML24E6 for about 2 weeks and just returned them yesterday. and today. I got 3x Dell 248WFP came in and I hooked it up. Here's some comparison between them: =-= SOYO DYML24E6 vs. DELL 248WFP REVIEW =-= Soyo Wins at: - Price: I got it for $250 at officemax ($279 after tax). if you have those $25 or $30 off coupons the deal would be even sweeter - Image quality: pretty good and noticeably BETTER than dell at overall look and more vibrant color. I was pleasantly surprised - better viewing angle. - Better picture when connected via. VGA/ANalog - faster response time 2ms vs 5ms of the dell. (but then again every manufacture put out their own numbers. but in acutal gameplay I it is about the same as the dell both have no ghosting problem) - has built in speaker (it's weak but at least there's a speaker). but I don't use it. - stand uses VESA size mount so u can use the stand for pretty much any other monitor of smiliar size. - not a single dead pixel from 3 monitors (at least I didn't find one yet) Soyo Loses at: - crappy stand with no adjustment. - stand is fat and FUGLY (it looks so bad and takes up so much space I have to replace that stand and use one from my other monitor) - stand feels VERY CHEAP. it's just full cheap plastic. - monitor is fatter in depth. - overall monitor feels CHEAP. and seems to use cheap material - Kinda fugly design and doesn't really look good - OSD controls kinda pain in the rear to work with. (you have to press like 7 to 12 buttons through the OSD to do something like switch input and "auto adjust". while on the Dell u just press one of the physical buttons one time). Who ever design the OSD should be shot. - bezel is alittle bigger than dell. - no DVI cable included Dell Wins at: - not a single dead pixel from 3 monitors (at least I didn't find one yet) - nicer design/look of monitor - includes DVI cable - OSD much easier to work with - smaller bezel - smaller physical size of the monitor. - nice looking stand - stand takes up less physical space and is tilt adjustable - higher quality material used - better OSD interface - longer mfg warranty. - dell support is pretty good. - Overall when i have the dells set up on my desk it looks MUCH MUCH nicer to the eyes than when I had the soyos there. Dell Loses at: - noticablly lower picture quality than the Soyo. it's not as sharp, bright and vibrant. I read alot of reviews on the monitor and I can't believe some people say positive things about its imiage quality. but maybe it's me and being picky and don't fully know how to adjust the color/brightness etc.. - can't handle vga/analog input as well as the soyo at native resolution - more expensive $300+ on average - slower response time. but in real use I can't really tell with the dell and soyo. both looks about the same to me. - no speaker included. - viewing angle is horrible IMHO compared to the Soyo (not that the Soyo is really that good but it is better than the dell) . it doesn't take much to have the colors go off when you are off center looking at it. OVERALL CONCLUSION. The Soyo do have pretty good picture quality considering its price. but it's just a fugly looking and feels really cheap. and the OSD kills me. I switch input alot and when I switch to analog I like to "auto adjust" it it's just a royal pain to go through the OSD to get that done. At it's core, the picture quality is good and the $250 price point is very attractive. The Dell looks nicer physically but the picture quality IMHO is a disappointment. but it's a decent quality build and looks nicer. Its a hard choice to choose which one but since I returned the soyo and can't buy it again at the same price (until the next sale comes out) I have to keep the dell for now. The best way describe the two is... DELL: Girl that is really cute looking but u don't want your friends to ask her any intelligent questions SOYO: average looking girl, doesn't dress too well. but is likable and can have a nice conversation with... I only got the dell for less than 4 hours before writing this review. I may upate this review when I have more time into it. |

" ROFL I LOVE THAT MAN! btw have u tried to change the colour presets? try multimedia preset as the default colour is crappy. Personally, i don't know why so many people complain about viewing angle. I mean it's not lik anyone views their monitors from 90 degree angle lol. 99% of people should have the monitor right infront of them so i don't know why people complain about it that much. To me, it's lik saying, i'm pissed that my car can only go 200mph and not 300mph? but in reality are u ever gonna go over 200mph? |

Dell 2408WFP is only $300? Are they selling TN models of it now? Way to confuse the customer. |

Dell 2408WFP is only $300? Are they selling TN models of it now? Way to confuse the customer. no. this is the original budget TN panel ones. anyway I did some more gaming testing with the dells. actually I do notice it not "updating" as fast in terms of the response time. but it's something that you have to look alittle hard to notice. (or it might be a placebo effect) I do have sensitive eye for details though and can tell by 60hz and 80hz with I use to have CRT monitors. also after testing a few games. Call of Duty 4 Sega Rally Revo. the dell 248wfp is pretty horrible. the colors.. like things in the shadows is like kinda too black and the bright scenes are kinda bright. the Soyo is darker but it's like faded and look normal. I don't know how to explain it properly.. I just finish repacking the monitors and going to sell it. I just can't stand the crappy image quality. It can't be a fluke because all 3 monitors are the same way. I actually came across the dell e248wfp before since last year but I never really use it ,just turn it on for customers before I resell it out. at the time I was connected via VGA and the first thing I think of when I started it up was how horrible the image quality is. and just though it needed DVI connection. if you do mostly office and work rerelated stuff the dell is fine though. I'm kinda picky sometimes. |

(notice the missing zero on the model number) is the cheap $300 TN panel ones. |

Oh, I see the typo now.. but 248WFP does not exist, so I thought you meant 2408WFP. There is a cheapo E248WFP, so that's probably the model the OP you were talking about? |
