I ran across this article and it caught my attention:
http://www.hothardware.com/News/DisplayPort_Cards_Coming_AMDs_RV635_Unveiled/

And this is why it's interesting:
Since each DisplayPort cable can run multiple monitors in a daisy-chain configuration, imagine a four panel setup from a single graphics card and even possibly a single cable connection.

Could this be the answer to our prayers?

Hello and welcome!

A new cable connection doesn't automatically change the fact, that the graphics chip must also support multiple monitors. Even today, there are several quad-display graphics cards available, but not for gaming.

Thank you.

I remember reading a few months ago that Samsung had developped a USB monitor and they connected 3 of them in a daisy chain. From the computer's point of view, they were treated as one big monitor. The problem was that USB 2.0 simply doesn't have the bandwidth that is necessary for gaming.

We'll have to wait until early 2008 to see if the Displayport monitors and video cards will be able to do the same. It will probably work for desktop applications but we'll need confirmation for gaming purposes.

Anything with higher bandwidth is going to help surround gaming step it up. Don't expect to be daisy-chaining 3 30" monitors though.

Besides the DRM facet, displayport is a Good Thing.
