Hi, I have an older system that doesn't have PCI Express. Has anyone purchased the TripleHead2Go and run it with out PCI Express and SLI? Will it work in lower resolutions? 800-600 or 640-480 on all screens?

Also can the TH2G be setup to run with only 2 monitors?

Thanks in advance

Sandy

Hi,

TH2G can't be run with only two monitors. Only one or three monitors are supported.

You'll need a SLI system ONLY if you definitely want to use the highest possible quality settings, such as 3840x1024 resolution and high quality anti-aliasing + anisotropic filtering in every game. In many cases, only one modern graphics card will be enough for Surround Gamind at medium/high details at 3072x768 or 3840x1024.

You can check the compatibility for the supported resolutions for your graphics card here:

To run dual-monitor you need no special box, just a video card with 2 video outs and capable of horizontal span. TH2G is a solution for 3 monitor only. I'm running the TH2G just fine with my 7800GTXKO. Mid-top range card should have little issue with 3840x1024. I do get a few lag spikes in DAoC, but that is common at any resolution.

windows doesn't support stretching of 3d apps. So dual would be harder without the box's help.

Forceware drivers fully support seamless integration of dual-monitor horizontal-span mode in 3d apps. Both video outs have to be on the same card though.

Dual-head gaming on all but a few games is worhtless anyway. You have no center screen and that usually messes things up.

Update:

Now you can use a couple of dualhead modes with the Matrox TripleHead2Go unit. Just take a look at Matrox website:

I just tried it yesterday. I can confirm it works. :)

For all practical purposes this is true, and yet....

This mockup from 2 years ago still makes me wistful sometimes.

What was it? About six years ago, Matrox was starting to push for dual monitor gaming support. They had Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator, Flight Simulator, Renegade Race, Microsoft Baseball 2000 and one or two others on board, but it never quite took off.

Still I can't help but wonder if this might strike a nice middle ground for those who don't want to buy three monitors, but don't mind getting one extra, or might have one extra laying around. For now I guess its a dead concept, but with Matrox you never know.
