Is Far Cry 2 any good? Is it comparable to Crysis?

Thanks...

Works and a definite improvement, but I am still finding the view a little off. I can't alt-tab to the trainer without FC2 crashing so it's difficult to play with the numbers, so any other recommended x/y values for 48:10 or is it already as good as it's going to get?

No need to Alt-Tab out of the game ... instructions for altering the settings are on the front of the tool and you can do it in game.

Those settings were a pretty damned close match to the 5:4 ... took me ages to get to them ... lol

Has anyone found the perfect settings for triple 5:4's (3840x1024)?

Thanks

I don't know if these are the mathematically perfect settings, but I'm perfectly happy with the X FOV setting at 2.94.

Great 'Britishism'! Or are you from across the pond and the phrase is common over there as well?

I'm British, you muppet!

Great fix, works a treat...

sadly I feel it may also have demonstrated why the devs chose not to release with widescreen support - when I use the fov hack to correct the disply, I get flickering shadows, particularly obvious on the hill sides, but visible in other places...

assuming not everyone is having this problem, so for the record, my rig:

q9550 @3.4
4GB OCZ DDR2 800
4870x2

vista ultimate 64
latest catalyst hotfix

running at 1920x1200

edit - natch running everything on highest available settings, 4x AA...

Excellent work! Donation made.

Working perfectly for me in 3840x1024. A credit to Ubi that I'm getting good frames at this resolution even with AA enabled and fire raging.

I was enjoying this game on one screen.... It is sooooooo much better in triple head.

Thanks RacerS!

Quick video of Far Cry 2 fixed with Paddy's recommended settings. No action I'm afraid, FRAPS stutter makes playing near-impossible.

First: Hello all! (am new)

I've not got it to work yet. I don't have to move the config file that created somewhere do i?

I'm runnning in Dx9 (dx10 isn't working). Also in full screen global hotkeys dosn't work - they work in windowed mode.

Any help would be grand!

Hello ... welcome to the forum ... :D

No you don't have to move the config file ...
You are using vista ... you may have to change the DEP settings on your pc to disable protection on the farcry.exe and the fc2FOV3.exe executables. (using the Racer_S tool)
From another thread ...
racer_s's fix did not work for me until i changed the DEP settings on my pc to disable protection on farcry.exe and the fc2FOV3.exe executables.
Once this was done i was able to modify the horizontal and vertical fov as i wished.

to disable dep for these exe's goto my computer's rpoperties , then advanced system settings, then the advanced tab, then settings on the performance section, then data execution prevention tab, then change the dep options to the bottom one and select the executables using the add dialogue.
Restart your pc and profit.

or ...
You could try this tool ... http://raven.is-a-geek.net/post/FwO_FarCry2_FOV_v2.zip ... by NightRaven which does not require the changes to DEP .

BTW ... from the Profile Page ...
Signature:

Please keep the text (colored text is fine) between sizes 9 and 11 (using BB Code).

Yours has too many lines ...
Please change it ...

I'm curious about how others feel about the TH2Go experience in FC2.

Recently I played Bioshock, COD4 and Crysis Warhead in TripleHead (COMPLETELY enjoying all three), and am now playing FC2.

I'm using Racer_S's fix with the correct FoV.... but I'm finding that I'm not enjoying the experience. I think it might be a minor form of motion sickness; something I've never experienced in a game before.

Anyone else have thoughts on this?

You might not have the FOV quite right. Or if your getting low frames that could be it. Or maybe its the effect that happens when you sprint too long?

I had the same feeling ... try these settings ...

X FOV: 4.8
Y FOV: 1.0

I think they improved things for me.

4.8...1.0
48:10
3x16:10

4.8? Wow, mines only at 2.94. Is the difference really that much between regular triplehead and triplewide?

I think it is a combination of the two figures ... I edited that last message ... adding ...

4.8...1.0
48:10
3x16:10

Dunno if it is significant ... must be ...

I don't *think* it is an FPS issue.... although at first I thought it might be.

In DX 10 with options cranked, I'm usually above 30 (50% of the time in the 40-50 range).... although sometimes I do dip into the high 20's (SLI seems to make little difference in frames for me when things are in the high-20's low 30's....).

I tried switching to DX 9.... which gave me about a 20% boost in FPS... but the visuals where noticably less vibrant to me.

Paddy... I'll try those settings. I've been running with the ones you had posted in the beginning of this thread: 3.85 & 1.253. My monitors are native 1600x1200.... so I'm not sure how that might affect things (I suck at math....).

Thanks!

Ah ... those settings will probably be wrong then ...

You could try this tool ... http://raven.is-a-geek.net/post/FwO_FarCry2_FOV_v2.zip ... by NightRaven which auto sets the height ... you just have to do the horizontal.

Yep DX10 only does a max of 3840x1024. Select DX9. restart FC2 and select 5040......

..and if it is anything like mine it will CTD after a few seconds then it'll freeze in the loading screens until you have deleted the user XML file. Rinse and repeat and see the first few seconds of the intro jeep ride as often as you want...but nothing else

I have had 5040x1050 both shown and not shown in the options, only by changing options in FC2. I think putting it in dX9 mode and restarting the game made it show up for me.

Oh and I fixed the start error, replace the farcry.exe in the bin folder with the one you get here : http://farcry.uk.ubi.com/download/

rename it FarCry2.exe if you want your NV profiles to work properly as well.

FYI: So far us SoftTH users have not got FarCry 2 working triplewide, just get the splash logo on the Windows desktop...then...nothing...not even a crash.

Ah well...one of very few games that only work TH2GO so far...

I wonder if GTA IV will work triplewide (none of the previous games have), we will see soon...(though its delayed a bit)...

Dunno if you know but GTA III and Vice City did do TH with a FOV tool from Racer_S ...
(May be you just meant they don't work out of the box)
I didn't ever try San Andreas.

GTA III ...

Shame about FC2 not worink in SoftTH ...

Huh, I always thought there was a widescreen 16:10 fix, but not triplewide, good to know.

GTA San Andreas takes a while to get into, but once you discover how huge the world is in the game it does get interesting exploring...(accidently found a San Francisco part of the game during a model plane mission, game is huge!)...

The tool has been updated to work with the patch ...

* Added support for v1.01 patch
* Added Auto Enable option
* Possible DEP workaround

Sorry ... I forgot to update the thread ...

Latest tool here ... (link removed)

I have no idea why I can't play Far Cry 2 with just 1 monitor without having the whole damn screen narrow. It looks like the 5040x1050 is fit into 1680x1050 it's horrible.

Guess the game have some serious wide screen problems so the FOV is totally of. Crysis was so much better when it came to TH2GO than this game. Crysis have native support and all and Far cry 2 don't now that is weird.

Is anyone running Far Cry 2 in 5040x1050 with ultra high setting? If so what settings on the fov fix are you using?

When I run it at 5760 x 1080 the picture is stretched. It looks like MW2 before hitting the keys to enable dopefish's widescreen fix.

Edit: Looks like I have to run my desktop resolution at 5760 x 1080 for it to work properly. Running the desktop at 1920 x 1080 was causing the problem.

That;s weird, it should work with the latest patch. Both with eyefinity and TH2Go, I was able to have the correct FOV.

It's just a glitch in Nvidia Surround. The desktop resolution has to match and then it's fine. TF2 has something similar. In TF2 I have to manually change the res to 5760 x 1080 each time I start the game :doh

It's a "glitch" in how these games calculate their aspect ratio, actually. As for Far Cry 2, it's also stated very clearly in the Detailed Report.
