I have an Optoma HD66 which can do 1920 x 1080. I would like to be able to view games in widescreen like i did on my triple monitors, but only with the single projector. In other words, really wide but not as high. Is there any way to do this or to just get a nice wide image like when i watch a BluRay movie? Thanks! P.S., I have a 6950 Eyefinity video card if that helps. |

I don't know much about these things but I would assume that to get what you want you're going to need to sacrifice some vertical screen space. Then maybe adjust the FOV value in games if it allows, or maybe there's third party software which will allow you to do it? Either way, I don't think you're going to easily get a triple screen setup out of a single projector. Maybe look at something like the jDome for ideas. Other people know more about this though so see what they've got to say! EDIT - You'll probably need Nthusim or Immersive Display Lite or similar to achieve the shrinking of the vertical height that you're after. But then, isn't that a waste? |

I don't mind vertical shrinkage if the FOV is wider, like on a movie screen. |

It still only has 1920x1080 pixels. so only way i can see would be to create a custom resolution, 1000x1080 for example. and to make sure monitor scaling is turned off so it dosent try to fill the screen. so wider, but not as tall. and then hope the game you want will allow you to pick it, and that the game will scale the fov to suit |

Whatever you do, you don't want anything less than 720 pixel height and many games simply won't load with anything less than 768. So, with a single 1080p projector you could potentially letterbox a 1920x720, which is at best similar to dual display. Problem is, some projectors force you to set an aspect ratio in the projector, which would still scale whatever you do, preventing it from working. Your mileage may vary depending upon which projector used. |

For the record, the Optoma HD66 is actually a 1280x800 (720p) projector, which it can scale a 1080p image, not really hard to do. If the projector has a native resolution feature, you can use your video card's control center to create a custom resolution. As long as it can accept the custom resolution that is, it is possible to have a resolution of say 1280x128. I am not too familiar with your projector, but when I set a custom resolution on my infocus x10: at native it will show the 2.35:1 image with no scaling; at 16:9, it stretches the image filling up the whole projector's image. The latter is actually very useful if you are investing in (or making) an Anamorphic lens, which are usually used for showing 2.35:1 movies without the pesky black bars. It also works with video games too (as long as they are Hor+). You can turn your desktop into a scope shape screen (2.35:1) at 1920x810 (or 1280x544 for 720p) or even say 4:1 (like 3 4:3) at 1920x480 (1280x320 for 720p. If you don't have a native resolution feature on your projector, or use VGA, with source games, you can access the games properties through launch options. Then type what you wish to implement. For example (Copy and paste). -Window -noborder -w xxxx -h xxxx The x's are what you wish to set the resolution (example -w 1280 -h 0544), remember this will not affect the resolution of your display (since it's a window mode) and you may need to clear your desktop's icons and tab bar, and use a black screensaver. If you use the A-Lens method and stretch with the projector, you won't need to do any of that. Hope it helps! :) |
