/rant=on ' Well ATI drivers don't look like they will be supporting TH2GO now... Suppose it's a marketing ploy for 'EyeFinity' forcing me to upgrade / sell my hardware aint gonna make me buy it.' /rant=off

So here my situation...

I have my rig nicely setup custom monitor stand made by my good self... 3 * 19" monitors, and my Triple Head 2 GO giving me an atmospheric surround gaming experience..

The card I have? and now have to grudgingly confess that it's has been Awsome is a Gainward 4870 x2 2GB that I picked up off eBay for £170.

Thing is I'm now stuck on v9.8 drivers and can't see ATI supporting the 3840x1024 resolution anymore.....

Course ATI say that it's not upto to them to support Matrox Devices (The TH2GO by all intense and purposes is seen as a monitor by hardware). It's the Resolution they aren't supporting so that's b......

So what to do. I mean the 4870 X2 still keeps up with the 295 at half the cost BUT it isn't DX11 compatible.

Do I sell on while the price is still high for the card still going for £160 - 190 on FleaBlag.

Any recommendations for cards???

Will have around £200 notes so I will probably have to go back in performance.

Really Really mythed by ATI and there drivers....

P.S. Only Nvidia for me now. ATI have lost my loyalty

who cares that much about DX11?

by the time a good number of titles come out, the 5890 (or whatever the respin of the 5870 will be called) should be here, and reasonably priced.

Unless you have problems with what you have, I wouldn't just jump in and sell what you have. The other thing is, if you get an Active DP > DVI converter, and sell your TH2GO you should be able to run eyefinity anyway.

Sorry to ask a silly question but can't you set a custom resolution with later drivers?

Its not a silly question and you can do this with NVIDIA drivers but not with ATI IIRC.

I had this same dilemma as OP few days ago. I want to upgrade but ATI doesnt support TH2Go resolutions and nvidia is taking their time to release new cards. Sure I could switch to eyefinity and pay 99€ for an active DP->DVI and still cant use lower surround resolutions. Also there are the GSODs you get on newest ATI cards.

I'm waiting for fermi now.

I hope the Nvidia stuff is good this next release. I would still be with ATI all they have to do is support a few resolutions.. It's not hard they have up to 9.8....

I can only think it's a marketing EyeFinity ploy, I hope not though.

I've been told that it's stupid not buying ATI and selling my ATI card but I'm at the point where I have no choice, The drivers are starting to get old and ATI isn't support TH2GO... I don't want to wait until the beast 4870x2 falls in price, ATM it's still holding it's value.

Going to try the 10.3 Beta release.. BUT I doubt it will work.
