Hi all,

Be very careful when you choose your monitors for the TH2GO as not all of them can support the 57Hz vertical frequency used by the new resolution set.

I've got three 22" ASUS monitors and according to ASUS website their specs are :

VW222U (I've got two of them) :
Analog Signal Frequency:31.3~80.2KHz(H) / 56~75Hz(V)
Digital Signal Frequency:31.3~80.2KHz(H) / 56~75Hz(V)

MW221U
Analog Signal Frequency: 30~86 KHz(H) / 56Hz~76 Hz(V)
Digital Signal Frequency: 30~83 KHz(H) / 56Hz~75 Hz(V)

I've managed to get the TH2GO handle the 5040*1050 resolution but I end up with two black screens out of 3... :(
There is a signal (the LED is still blue) but they won't display anything. So I went back to ASUS website and noticed that some 22" VW serie monitors (such as the VW220N) have the following specs :

Analog Signal Frequency: 31~80 KHz(H)/ 56Hz~75 Hz(V)
Digital Signal Frequency: 30~75 KHz(H)/ 60Hz~70 Hz(V)

...which are beyond the new TH2GO resolution set (5040*1050@57Hz).

What I don't understand is why my two VW222U monitors are not able to use the 57Hz frequency as their specs should allow them to do so. Could the ASUS website be wrong and misleading? I'm puzzled and very frustrated...

Can anyone think of a solution or am I stuck with the 3840*1024 resolution?...

Regards,
ArVa

Try switching around the cables a bit could be the TH2G

Yes, I've tried that with no results. I don't think it comes fom the cables.

I have made a few tests and noticed another strange behaviour. Knowing that my monitors cannot go as low as 57Hz in digital but that they can in analog, I've placed a DVI-VGA converter (can't remember if it came with the TH2G or the screens) on the left monitor output of the TH2G and switched to the 5040*1050 resolution. It works, I do have a display on the left monitor that was pitch black in digital mode (the right monitor remains black, and the center one is perfect).
Problem is, Power Desk indicates the correct resolution, so do Windows and Nvidia, but my left monitors indicates a 1280*1024 resolution and it shows!... Actually, it doesn't even look like 1280*1024, it's really awful and I miss the upper part of the screen...

Could someone tell me if such a device would make a better job :

I'm going to contact ASUS support but I don't expect much from them...

If anyone can think of a solution...

regards

I don't see why you need a fancy and clunky DVI-to-VGA converter when a standard, small device that does the same thing should work fine.

Well, I've tried two "standard, small devices" so far, both from different manufacturers, and both give the same result : when I switch to the 5040*1050 resolution I do obtain a display but it's only 1280*1024 according to the monitor itself. What is strange is that I miss the top part of the screen (apparently not 1680-1280=400 pixels but I may be wrong on that) and the display is somewhat stretched and shimmers a bit... It looks like it has the right size horizontally though (but between 1024 and 1050 it might be hard to tell).

My configuration is as follows :
TH2G Port1 : DVI/VGA converter => Monitor 1 : 1280*1024/61Khz*57Hz
TH2G Port2 => Monitor 2 : 1680*1050/61Khz*57Hz, perfect display
TH2G Port3 => Monitor 3 : No display (I guess I could use the same configuration as Port1 but only to get the same result).

So I'm still wondering if a better-manufactured DVI/VGA converter could solve my problem or if I'm doomed...

When I set the 3X1280*1024 resolution using only DVI connectors, all displays are OK but you can really see it's not the monitors' native resolution and games (I use FSX mainly) look distorted.

Regards.

I understand that standard converters aren't working properly for you. My advice is simply to not get the fancier ones. In other words, I think something else is the problem, and wouldn't pursue alternate converters.

I don't have any idea what the problem could be, though. Sorry.

What monitor is being shown in your Windows Display properties, as per this thread:

JKeefe :

I guess you're right, it would be nothing but a waste of money... Thanks for the advice!...

Ibrin :

The monitor section of the Windows Display Properties does read "Matrox TH2GO Digital Edition"...

I'm still stuck with my problem. And I am more and more convinced that it comes from a bug in ASUS' firmware as the VW222U should display 1680*1050@57Hz in both digital and analog but it just doesn't. Even 1280*1024 is corrupted in converted analog mode using the TH2GO...
My third monitor, the MW221, which is one year older, accepts all resolutions and frequency without trouble, DVI or D-SUB.
I could have a physical problem with one monitor, but two?... And there are no firmware update, no drivers, nothing on ASUS' website (none that I could find, anyway)...

I'm going to contact ASUS to see what their answer is about this issue and I'll keep you posted (I'm leaving tomorrow for a week and a half so don't expect an answer anytime soon)...

Regards.
