Hello,

I have 18 samsung led tvs, 9x video wall on 1 side and 9x video on another, both walls must show the same video.

I used ivu9s controller to get 1 picture on 9 screens then split it to the other 9 screen to get the same picture.

I give you the scheme

Now the ivu9s is broken and it will not be fixed for 30 days so i need to come up with another way to do the same thing.
Thinking about eyefinity, how could i setup this.
Maybe 3 eyefinity 6slot cards and get 18 input, or get 1 eyefinity 6slot card and 1 3slot card then use the splitters as before to get the same picture on both 9x walls ?

For the 30 days that you are waiting to get the video wall controller fixed, would the financial investment of a hoard of new AMD Eyefinity 6 compatible cards be worth it?

Instead it may very well be worth checking the features supported by the Samsung UE 46" displays as these are professional displays that likely support video wall mode.

You have not provided the exact full model number, however (according to the manual) the UE46A has support for video daisy-chaining via DVI input and DVI output (pages 25-26), and also supports video wall mode (page 152).

As such you could achieve dual 3x3 video walls using all the existing hardware you have already with near zero additional costs, assuming you have DVI cables spare.

Simply take 1 DVI feed from the pc and pass it to the first group of monitors, connecting the pc to monitor 1, then from monitor 1 use DVI loop out into monitor 2, repeat to monitor 9, then repeat again for the 2nd group of 3x3 monitors.

This way you have each group of monitors as a separate output from the PC, giving you flexibility to have different images on each group in extended mode or the same image on both groups using duplicated output mode.
As such this can be achieved without the use of any Eyefinity.

You could of cause loop out of monitor 9 from group 1 into monitor 1 in group 2 if you have only a single output from your laptop or dvd player device.

You should now be getting the same 1920x1080 image on all 18 monitors, once confirmed you can then put the monitors into "video wall" mode, and in doing so, you can setup the number of monitors in the group (up to 100 supported according to the manual - page 153) in a 3x3 configuration and then set the monitors relative position in this group.

This will use the monitors built in image up-scaling hardware to cut out a segment of the incoming 1920x1080 image and scale it up to fill the screen.
The up-scaling is essentially what the video controller is doing for you, however these monitors have such a feature built into them.

Thank you for your reply, but the TVs I have are Samsung UE46ES5500W and in the manual i cant see a video wall function so its leaves with the eyefinity option or matrox video cards someone suggested

Ahh, well thats a kicker.

I guess then you could either use 3 Matrox TripleHead2Go attached to a AMD Eyefinity card.

Using the Matrox TH2Go to create a single large surface between a row of screens (A1,A2,A3) (A4,A5,A6) (A7,A8,A9) which could then be setup in a vertical 1x3 eyefinity arrangement to create the large span, this would also run each monitor at its native resolution providing the PC with a resolution of 5760 x 3240.

It should be noted that the Matrox TH2Go come in a number of editions, VGA/DVI/DisplayPort, each have limitations due to the bandwidth of the input signal types used.
Even with the DisplayPort input edition the chipset inside is still constrained to that of the DVI chipset thus limiting potential bandwidth advantages by using DisplayPort.

DVI-DL supports up to 7.92 Gbit/s of bandwidth, a resolution of 5760x1080 @ 50hz requires 7.46Gbit/s of bandwidth while 5760x1080 @ 60hz requires 8.96Gbit/s of bandwidth which is outside the scope of DVI-DL.

Given the model of the displays provided, search results indicate the displays are capable of running at 50hz refresh rate. :)


Another alternative is to use DataPath X4 video wall or similar controllers, although this is of cause a much more expensive and yet more robust solution.
