Hello I'm GHV512, and i'm new to this forum, so if this thread isn't in the right forum, please tell me. I have 3 LG Flatrons with HDMI and VGA input, and im trying to get Eyefinity working, however, i have 2 DVI outputs, 1 HDMI, and 2 displayports. I am currently running with 2 displays connected to my Radeon HD 6970, and one connected to a Geforce 8800GT If i connect them all to my Radeon HD 6970 only 2 will work at the same time. I read somewhere (on this forum, and other websites) that i need a active converter to do this. But before i buy it i want to make sure that it would work. (because i have already spent to much money buying things that dont work.) I was thinking about connecting one with just HDMI, one with a DVI to HDMI converter+HDMI cable and one with the active Displayport>HDMI converter+HDMI cable. Would this work? or do i need other equipment to get it working? |

Supposing you get it working in your current configuration, you may have problems with screen tearing if you run a grouped eyefinity display across displays attached to multiple adapter types, and this is across all AMD Eyefinity setups regardless of card, so that's something you may want to consider before parting with anymore cash I have this issue, but have 7950 card and a AOC q2963pm display with DP daisy chaining capability. If, in your setup you want to run three screens without screen tearing, I think (although I've yet to get confirmation of this myself) you want to run them all off the same adapter type, which you can do using one of your displayports and a MST hub such as this one, and then run three DP to whatever adapters to your monitors, although I don't know if these will have to be passive or active given you're going through a MST hub. At the moment with my setup I'm very much in the 'theory' stage of getting another AOC 1080p monitor using DP, and then using my DP out on my 2560x1080 monitor to my existing HDMI 1080p monitor.... I have a 4480x1080 dual monitor setup at the moment but the screen tearing is very distracting, Although like you mention, it's all cost. |

Hi just to check the LG flatrons are TVs right? so no DVI inputs? Also do you know the exact model of your 6970? I think all the DP (display port) adapters which are DP > HDMI are passive (I might be wrong) the only active DP adapters i know of are DP > DVI. I have a 6990 and a bunch of 7970s and with an amd card only a max of 2 passive connectors can be used so this is your DVIs and HDMI and DP with passive adapters. This is why you can only use 2x monitors. To use DP you will need at least 1 active adapter. Long story short this is how i would recommend you set up your TVs: 1x HDMI > HDMI 1x PASSIVE DP adapter > DVI + DVI cable > HDMI 1x ACTIVE DP adapter > DVI + DVI cable > HDMI You could also use: 1x DVI 1x HDMI 1x DP (with active adapter) OR: 2x DVI 1x DP (with active adapter) OR: 1x DVI (Or HDMI) 1x DP (Passive adapter) 1x DP (Acitve adapter) BUT NOT: 2x DVI 1x HDMI (Because these count as passive outputs) This is also dependant on the specific video card (Hence what is the model number) I think some sapphire brand video cards have "flex" technology which allows them to use more than 2 passive outputs. You should have a passive dp adapter when you purchased the video card. There are other ways as stated a MST hub is ideal as DP operate at a different frequency to HDMI so tearing will result. All i can advise is if you do get your setup working always use vsync to cap framerates to 60 FPS, this will result in a smoother gaming experience (I have 3x7970s in tri-fire and i still use vsync) |
