Hey guys I'm new to this forum and it seems I definitely fit right in. Anyhow, my current setup is nearly complete, but i'm having a hard time deciding what graphic cards to purchase.

(I got the monitors cheap so i know they're not the best lol)

I'm considering getting Two Sapphire R9 290x Vapor-X 8GB edition http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-353-SP
OR an R9 295x2 due to the amount of DP ports

If I cannot hook up the monitors to 1 card and crossfire them I'd be willing to configure them separately or 6 centered and the 4 on the sides as extra on maybe some random Nvidia card

1. Advice, sell 4 Monitors.
2. Advice don' buy Nvidia Geforce Card.


AMD Eyefinity supports up to 6 Monitors aka 3x2 Landscape Setup.
Nvidia Surround supports 3x1 Landscape.

If you intend this setup to play games (and that's what I assume as you mentioned Crossfire) these are your only reasonable options.
SoftTh which might work over 5x2 Monitors only works with Dx9 Games therefore is kinda Outdated.

I don't think using the DP - Dual HDMI Adapter could help here as you would bind two 1920x1080 Monitors as one physical 3840x1080 so with 5x2 and 4 adapters you could run a 3x2 but I'm not sure AMD supports 3840x1080 |3840x1080|1920x1080 as an Eyefinity setup.

The other way might be some professional Matrox or 4Data Multiplier/Split boxes.
But they are kinda expensive and don't all work in 1920x1080 @60Hz. Tough I lack the knowledge about those.


If you don't need a SLS (Single Large Surface, aka expanding direct X Full screen over all Monitors) or for Gaming you might Best get a Matrox or Fire pro card.


Oh... and if you activate Crossfire on AMD GPUs the 2nd GPU ports get deactivated!

Sorry maybe I wasnt clear What I was thinking was

1. eyefinity across all 10, as in
[A1] [B1] [B2] [B3] [C1]
[D1] [E1] [E2] [E3] [F1]
Running group B off a MST hub of 5760x1200 and group E at a MST hub of 5760x1080; While A C D and F are at native 1920x 1080 (sorry if i'm misunderstanding how mst hubs work)

2. run two groups of 5x1 per Sapphire R9 290x vaporx8Gb obviously non crossfire

3. eventually run the 6 in the middle Groups B and E off a pair of Sapphire R9 290x vaporx8Gb or One R9295X2 Card as a single eyefinity grouping. Then the monitors ACDE as Extra for browsing the internet or whatever on maybe a third Nvidia card or something (because ironically they're cheaper)

I have heard of SoftTH, too bad DX12 will come out soon lol, somebody is working on SoftTH3 aswell, but theres no telling how long that will take.

And yes this is for gaming I will eventually sell the 4 if not all monitors, but I would like to attempt this ridiculous setup haha

If AMD supports 4kres shouldn't it be able to support half of that? Also using an adapter or MST hub Can i stack them vertically as well?

not sure on that, but IIRC AMD Radeon only supports 1 Eyefinity Group.
I'm not sure if that limit could be undone by using a second Card. Might work.

i think the multiple Eyefinity groups was reserved for the firePro GPUs.


But yeah, a MST hub should work fine for connecting 3 Monitors via 1 Dispplayport.


As for your other points maybe someone else here can help us out :) I'm out of knowledge :nudgenudge:

Ugh, looks like the R9290x8GB Vapor-X (The only version currently released) of it has 1 DP port I really hope the Toxic edition is released and has 2 miniDP....

Because I've never bought an MST hub and probably will have to, will the MST hub trick the graphic card into thinking its one Display?

@_@; yeah i really hope I can figure this build out. I want to be able to try playing on all of them just once, but i'll likely use 6 in the middle and the rest for random browsing.
