Hello,
I have been going crazy trying to figure this out, hoping someone here has experienced this problem or just knows more than me and can offer some advice.
Ok here is my setup / problem:
Hd7870 eyefinity version (6 mini displayports)
3 Monitors (Dell E2311H, dvid and vga, (not using vga though))
Active Adapter mdp to dvid
When I plug one of these Dell monitors into the Active Adapter the monitor immediately goes into power saver mode. (does not matter how many monitors are currently connected, whether only 1 , or all of them, it always happens) CCC even recognizes it as a displayport, but I can not get it to display anything.(note:passive mdp to dvi adapters work just fine, its the active giving me trouble)
I tested a different monitor with the same active adapter, but used a dvid>hdmi connector and plugged into the monitor via hdmi. This works fine, no problems. Even used 2 of the above Dell E2311H and had a 3 display eyefinity group. Then I tried using a dvid cable with this different monitor, and boom power saver mode. For some reason the active adapter does not work with a straight up dvid cable. Makes no sense to me at all.
The dvid cables I use are single link. my monitors are only 1920x1080 so I think that is ok. I even pulled out the 16 pin on a cable and tried that (read somewhere that doing so could keep monitors from going into powersave). That just ruined a good cable.
I have searched around the web and found some people have a similiar problem, but it always involves them using all passive adapters. Once they start using 1 active their problem is fixed (as this is the correct way to set up eyefinity)
It seems like I need a new active adapter, but I would much rather be sure and understand this problem before I drop more money into this.
Thank you much in advance for any help/ideas/advice. I can feel my sanity slipping lol.
EDIT/UPDATE: So this adapter worked for another monitor, but not the ones I wanted to use, fixed it very easily - got a VALIDATED active adapter. Anyone looking to setup eyefinity, don't bother getting anything that is not validated. I got something not validated just because that is what a local store had. Pay the shipping, wait a few days, get the validated adapter and save yourself a headache. Happy holidays.
