| Post subject: | Intermittent stuttering solved by disabling Powerplay |
In games where my videocard switches between 2d and 3d clocks (eg MW3 mp) I experienced some light microstuttering both on a single screen and in eyefinity. There are some problems with HD 7xxx cards and power savings feature (blue screens and driver stopped working). Somehow switching between different clock vsettings produces all kind of bugs. In the config file of Afterburner you can set UnofficialOverclockingMode to 2. This disables Powerplay and also all my stuttering problems. On the one hand it sucks that I didn't figure this out sooner, but on the other hand I am happy that I found it at all. I hope that this solves some problems you guys are having with the 7xxx series videocards. |

ehm.... WHAT ? MW3 MP uses 2d Clocks ? when ? I knew that switching clocks causes lot of stuff, i.e when i start a Youtube video (Normal idle. GPU clocks at 500/1425) Flash player starts hardware acceleration and GPU goes to 501/1375mhz, when GPU load increases it goes to 925/1375 (and my standard clock is 1000/1425), so when chaning clock i get a awfull tearing effect over all 3 monitors! so you say disable PowerPlay ? Wasn't Powerplay that feature to allow the GPU to increase TDP up to 20% or decrease up to -20% ? gotta try that out ! Edit: Guess it doesnt work for that bug. or do you need a restart of computer and not just Afterburner ? |

ehm.... WHAT ? MW3 MP uses 2d Clocks ? when ? When I alt-tab out of mw3 after experiencing stuttering I can see (in Afterburner) that Powerplay is switching between different modes. When you change the UnofficialOverclockingMode from 0 (off) to 2 (on without Powerplay) my clocks stay at 3d mode all the time. This costs more energy (obviously), but eliminates stuttering for me. Keep in mind that I am not talking about stuttering caused by crossfire; running a single card now a days. Restarting Afterburner is a must, otherwise the changes you made in the config file aren’t loaded. Maybe you have Powerplay confused with Powertune which lets you adjust the TDP. |
