| Post subject: | Choosing a triple monitor setup, help? |
Hey guys, another WSGF noob. Need help deciding where to start. I built a computer last year, I am running crossfire 6870's. They each have two mini display ports, two dvi ports, and an hdmi port. I really don't know where to start in choosing a triple monitor setup. (Additional Specs: AMD Phenom x6 1090T, 16GB Crucial DDR3, 1200 Watt power supply) I like IPS monitors for obvious reasons, I also like that most come with height and swivel adjustments so I could get by without a triple monitor mount. My biggest things is I want three monitors somewhere around 22"-25" with a native resolution of 1920x1080 (16:9). I am having a hard time choosing the monitors to use. I don't necessarily have to go with IPS monitors, I have heard some great things about most Asus monitors with good ole TN. However, I think I will have to go with a triple monitor stand as well. I am a gamer; so obviously a semi low response time is essential. Though I think I would be fine with a 6ms or 8ms IPS monitor. Any suggestions? Also, I want the color and display and everything to be the same across the board, so would it be best to use monitors that all utilize display port (via display port to mini display port) Lastly, I'd like to keep it around $1000 bucks. I can sway a few hundred either way though; I am not picky. I just want a nice setup, with no flickering and issues like that. Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it. I like to think that I know more than the average joe, but I am lost with all the monitor choices. |

If you can afford it I'd suggest going with Dell 1920x1200 IPS displays instead of 1920x1080 TN. When web browsing that extra bit of pixel height with 1200p is better than 1080p. Do you ever envision using them in 3x1P sometimes? If so I'd get IPS panels. TN panels when rotated have viewing angle issues with the diffusion film on the LCD in portrait mode. Even if you don't foresee either being an issue, going IPS seems like the best visual quality anyways. |

| Post subject: | I agree.I would never |
I agree. I would never knowingly buy a TN panel; the response time values that the manufacturers quote are often wishful thinking, and if they are accurate, they're usually achieved by pixel overdrive or other brute force methods which can result in negative ghosting and similar nasty surprises if the event that colours change dramatically. While I'm not 100% happy with the 6-bit IPS panel in the Dell U2311H - colour reproduction is acceptable but not as good as on my old PVA-based Dell 2405s' or 8-bit IPS U2410 - I'd go with that over TN because of the viewing angle issues. Like BHawthorne, I'd also recommend looking for WUXGA panels, rather than 'Full HD' panels, as that extra 120 pixels of vertical makes a huge difference in productivity. |

| Post subject: | You know the main game I play |
You know the main game I play isn't very friendly to multi-monitor setups. I had been looking at those Dell's and they are nice. I just needed someone else to recommend them before I jump the gun. I think I am going to go with 1920x1080 Dell's (IPS ofcourse), I am sure the 16:10 is nice and having the additional pixels is truly a widescreen setup. Unfortunately, the game I play just doesn't support them and I don't think it will. (even though it is in a closed beta now) |

I've got 5 Dell IPS displays. Let me tell you, they are top notch! I only running 3 at the moment. It's 3 CFL and 2 LED. Hoping I don't have color problems between them. Either way, great choice. Hope it works out for you! Those are excellent displays for bezel stripping and the option of 3x1P opens up a lot of games that won't normally handle Eyefinity. |

| Post subject: | you know for sure that this |
you know for sure that this omnious game (which name you cant tell because you're under NDA, I bet its either D3 or GW2) doesnt run in 1920x1200 or you just cant choose that resolution? Because on my Dell U2311H i cant use 1920x1200 either! And that is because 1920x1080 is Native and you cant go higher than that! If you go with a Dell& Pivot (swivel?) i hope you're not a perfectionist! The problem is that the monitors are (because of the pivot) not completly horizontal. And if you manage to get all 3 perfect in sync dont touch them anymore! Or they will move and mess up. Using 3x Dell U2311H for over a half year i can say i dont realy care about that! I rearange them every 2 months a little if it hurts me to much.... But 3 Monitors are quite wide and the 23" arent that Big. Sometimes i wish they would be higher! Btw about reaction Time. I heard most of the time they just messure Black/white time which is completly useless ? |
