Post subject:  Eyfinity + CrossFire for 5 displays

Hi,

i need to display a DirectX 9 application (similar as a game) on 5 displays in fullscreen (exclusif mode).
i need a maximum of power.
We have a Sapphire Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition but we need more GPU power.

Is it possible to link 2 Radeon HD 7970 (having 4 outputs each) in CrossFire and plug 5 displays on it (example: 4 display on the first graphic card, 1 one the second graphic card) in order to display our application in Fullscreen (exclusif mode) on the 5 display ?
Will CrossFire be Active ?

With Nvidia Solutions, we can use 5 displays using 2 graphic cards, but without SLI and only in Windows Desktop extended mode (the application need to be windowed and the performance are not optimal).
The SLI mode only support a maximum of 3 displays in fullscreen and only the output of the master card are available.

I have read somewhere that in CrossFire, only the first card can output images. In CrossFire, do i need 2 Eyefinity 6 graphics cards for my 5 displays ?
AMD seems to be able to support 24 displays:

It should be possible to use the output of 2 "classic" graphic cards to plug 5 displays on 2 cards having 4 outputs each ? (without any hub)

Thanks,

Post subject:  Hi and Unfortunately

Hi and :welcome

Unfortunately Eyefinity does not span multiple cards, it can only use the outputs from a single card, but can use addtional cards for extra horsepower by enabling CrossFireX.

To achieve 5 displays you would need either the 5870e6 or a 7970 Flex 6G (due date unknown).

Alternatively you could use a Matrox Dual/Tripple Head2Go along side any ATI 5xxx series or above card with the 12.2 drivers to gain support for Eyefinity 2.0 which allows you to have different resolutions and bezel compensations, to split one of the DVI or DP outputs to 2 or 3 of the monitors.

Something like a game running on dx9 ? You sure Crossfire/SLI even works with that Programm? Thts driver dependant ant not guaranteed.

Post subject:  Unless there is a Crossfire

Unless there is a Crossfire profile for the game you'll want the largest single GPU you can get. That is currently the ASUS 7970 DirectCUII. It's a custom PCB E6 card by ASUS. Newegg currently sales them, but they've been out of stock.

4 DP 1.2 ports and 2 Dual-Link DVI ports capable of Eyefinity 5x1.

There was also an ASUS 6970 and 6950 DirectCUII with same port configurations that recently went EOL. Might be able to get those on the cheap now that they went EOL in the last week.
