I have seen in a few places these Dual-Link DVI m to Displayport m cables. Here are some examples: http://www.ebay.com/itm/15FT-MINI-DISPLAYPORT-MALE-DP-DVI-D-MALE-DUAL-LINK-/270656056086?afsrc=1 Finnish site: http://www.verkkokauppa.com/fi/product/39156/cgjmn/Fuj-tech-DisplayPort-DVI-D-Dual-Link-monitorikaapeli
So if I have a monitor that requires dual link bandwidth through a dual-link DVI cable, will this cable work and give me dual-link bandwidth through the graphics cards displayport? Could it be that the cable has the correct amount of pins for dual-link DVI, but it doesn't actually carry the required bandwidth? Or is it so that always when converting a dual-link DVI signal, you need an active adapter? |

DVI and DP are different communication protocols. AMD Eyefinity requires an active adapter be used for any DP to DVI connections. This would mean that it would have to have active circuitry inside the plug to transcode between DP and DVI. Beings that it's a cheap cable that is even cheaper than a single-link active adapter, no way that'll work for AMD Eyefinity. If it's not active, it's useless to you. |

yeah, save yourself the trouble and get one of these: Accell B087B-003J UltraAV miniDisplayPort/DVI-D Dual-Link Adapter. I just got mine from amazon and it works fine. I started working on this eyefinity thing without really doing my home work, and it turned into a lot of trouble with the returns. This adapter works great!! There is a master list of adapters on the AMD site, but you probably knew that. |
