Post subject:  Would Eyefinity be suitable for this commercial flight sim?

Hi All,

I help out at a flight simulation centre and I'm going on a wim to suggest Eyefinity to them...

Currently they have 3 monitors going through colmated displays. The two sides are 20" at 1920x1080 and the front is a 23" CRT running at 1024x768 . Each monitor is powered by it's own PC running FSX which uses a 3rd party program to keep the two side client pc's in sync with the server which is forward facing. Only problem is stutters and jerks with the clients getting the updates from the server. The reason we still use a CRT is due to the great contrast ratio it offers, providing true blacks.

Anyway, I've seen videos of Eyefinity and it looks great. Here are my questions:

Can it be used with different size resolutions as per my description above?

Can you have the two sides working at a 35 degree angle of aspect (like true side visuals in a 737)? (I know about editing the setting widescreen=true CFG file but this looks a vague setting....?)

Can you adjust the display vertically to raise the POV as some of the monitors are essentially at slightly different hights? (how they are positioned in the colimated display units). If we can't I guess the horizon when flying will be messed up.

Thank you to anyone who can help answer these questions.

Jack

Post subject:  Either you will have to run

Either you will have to run at 3x 1024 or you need 3 monitors the same res (im sure someone will correct me)
not sure what you mean by 2 screens 35 degree angle of aspect eyefinity makes the game think you have 1 very wide screen

"Can you adjust the display vertically to raise the POV as some of the monitors are essentially at slightly different hights? "
No as far as the game is concerned you have 1 screen

on the bright side you can ditch the other 2 pc's

Thanks for your reply Davros.

Regards the 35 degree angle, I mean tell FSX to show the view out the two side monitors to be a realistic 35/45 degree angle.

It's not a viable solution now due to the restrictions with resolution etc.

Cheers

Post subject:  Form what I understand the

From what I understand the new Eyeifnity 2.0 options soon will allow mixed resolution spanning. Not sure if that's unique to 7000-series cards or if the Catalyst drivers will will give the option to all Eyefinity capable cards. There is a slide in the 12/14 press slides that show differing resolution displays doing 3x1L.

An alternate viable option would be to experiment with SoftTH. It will definitely allow you to do some unique and exotic span modes with mixed displays.

I also assist the guys at Nu-Tek Simulation. If you need anything for your 737 sim as far as instrumentation, they can do custom work and upgrades with real instrumentation. They run an FAA certified instrument repair shop.

Post subject:  How about using eyefinity

How about using eyefinity card just for its 3 video outputs... And combining it with SoftTh - to support mixed resolutions?

I used to run FSX like this on HD5770 1GB with middle monitor being 24'' lcd @ 1920x1080 and two 17'' crt @ 1280x1024. Everything ran smooth without any stuttering.
