Hello,

First of all i would like to mention that i am new to the whole performance setups, since this is the first time i can actually afford a powerful computer (or so i think it is.)
Also i read many posts here on these forums, but reading all got me confused in certain areas, and i want to focus all my concerns in a single thread.

My system currently is like this (i am still building as time passes)
- Intel i5 2500k + Asus P8Z68-V + 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz
- 1x Asus EAH6950 DCII/2DI4S/2GD5
- 1x BENQ G2420HDBL
Planing to add:
- 2x BENQ G2420HDBL and 1x some other monitor (probably smaller)
- 1x SSD for better boot performance

And now, the reason i am posting here:

I would like to try an Eyefinity setup. 3+1. Is this even possible? What i want actually, is to run 3 monitors in Eyefinity, and have a 4th to just monitor things, like CPU/GPU temps, fan speeds and whatever else.

This will probably decrease performance in gaming but i am not worried about lowering a few settings. Will the difference with this card be huge? from one HD resolution to 3x HD resolutions + lets say another 1600x900 (is this setup even possible? while running a game in eyefinity mode in fullscreen will shut down the 4th monitor?)

My main concern however is the actual setup of this whole thing.
I have 2 DVI connectors on the card and 4 display ports (I read that one of the DVI connectors is Dual Link).
At first i thought would be simple, connect the Eyefinity with 2 DVI and 1 DP, and have the 4th screen on another DP. But after reading many threads here, i found out that there may be problems with that setup, like screen tearing for example.
The monitors i will buy only support VGA and DVI connections so either way i will be needing some sort of adapters.

The screen tearing and similar situations can only be avoided while connecting all the screens via DPs? If that is the case i will probably need 4 DP adapters. But what kind? i read there are Active and Passive ones. Which ones should i use in this case?

Thank you,
redrat.

Hello again,

I am about to order the other two BENQ G2420HDBL monitors soon, hopefully before Christmas.
Could somebody more experienced then myself tell me what is the best way to connect them and what kind of adapters do i need?
Can i go 2x DVI + DP? Or is it safer with 3x DP? (To avoid screen tearing or similar problems)

Thank you,
redrat.

I am doing exactly what you want to do with a 32 inch bravia and three Dell U24's. I run two U24's on display port, the third U24 on DVI, and my 32 inch on HDMI. Works great. There is screen tearing on the DVI U24 which is inevitable unless you swing a card with more DP ports then I have.
