Post subject:  Better desktop management

Hey guys,

For TLDR, skip to bottom...

I recently joined the AMD crowd, while upgrading for Battlefield 3. I've been gaming in surround since about 2006, before eyefinity and nvidia surround started taking off.

I was using a Matrox TripleHead2Go, analogue edition, being driven, until now, by a 9800GTX. When I went AMD, since they seem to stress surround as their strongpoint vs nvidia, I was pissed off at how they handle desktop management, and how a non-widescreen game will be repeated on all 3 monitors. (The latter issue was resolved by a true hero to these forums(I don't remember who, sorry!!), showing that by using windowskey-p, you can get your game on just one screen.)

In my disgust, I unplugged my monitors from the fancy eyefinity video card, back into my matrox, resigned to use the power of my new graphics card to push through an analogue monitor(matrox box). When I read about the windows-p fix, I went back to eyefinity. I still hated the way I had to right-click cooperative programs, and artificially, "attach to grid" to get them maximized on one screen, but at least it was workable.

I've had alot of problems getting Battlefield 3 beta to launch, so in my search for a possible conflict, I disabled the Catalyst stuff, like hydraview. When I eliminated that as the conflict, I launched firefox to search/post on those forums.

Firefox opened in ONE monitor!! I had forgotten to disable the Matrox desktop management software.

Guys, the matrox desktop software is so effortless... You don't have to attach to any grids, it just has 3(or whatever, configurable) screens for applications to snap to. It can be configured to launch new apps or windows in the parent window, or the window you deem as the "main". Try it out...

Yeah, that sucks a lot. Eyefinity is still buggy as hell. I wonder does nVidia is also so buggy?

Post subject:  This does indeed look like

This does indeed look like much simpler and more intuitive software than most of what I've been trying recently.

However, I'm struggling to find the options for Bezel displacement. There are references to it in the guides, but I'm wondering if this only appears if you have a compatible product?

Yes.

Arguably, nVidia Surround is worse than AMD EyeFinity. No hotkey switching support is my biggest complaint at the minute, and has been since it launched.

That said, AMD seem to have slowed their efforts toward EyeFinity recently. Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come in the triplewide/surround gaming world...

Sorry Rebelstar, I didn't mean within the CCC software, I know where to find that. I meant within the Matrox software, there is mention of Bezel control, but I can't find that option within the version linked here. It doesn't seem to be too happy with splitting the display, with bezels controlled by the ATI software.
