Hey guys, wish I would have found this site weeks ago. Here's the deal. I've got x6 46' LED t.v's all grouped together to use as one huge desktop. All six monitors are cabled with HDMI (50') This set-up isn't for gaming, but I knew gamers would def. know their stuff and could help above anyone else. This set-up will be used solely for URLS's, some remote DVR camera viewing and just multiple browsers, for the time being at least. I'm going to build another computer but for the time being this is the computer being used....

Current computer:
CPU-i3
PSU-650 watt
video cards- x2 AMD Firepro 2460's
HD- Barracuda 1 TB

currently building:
CPU-Phenom II
Motherboard- Gigabyte UD3
PSU- 850 watt
vide card- x2 AMD Firepro 2460's
HD- Barracuda 1.5 TB

I got my cards this week and added x1 to try it out. Well it has x4 mini DP'S so I'm using x4 minDP to HDMI adapter and only x2 of them work. I talked with a couple of AMD techs's before purchasing these 2460 cards and both of them said this would work for my set-up, but after doing some more research I see that you need an active adapter for miniDP to HDMI, but there is no such thing. With that being, what is my best option to get this done now?
If you read AMD's very small print, it says you can only use x2 passive miniDP to HDMI and the others have to be either directly connected or active.

Would it be better just to get x6 active miniDP to VGA adapters and run 50' VGA cables to replace the HDMI cables? How should this project been done? Someone said I should have used a "multiplexor". I've got to get this thing done and I'm about to loose my mind. I've added a couple of pics to show you what I'm working with. They are attached, could not find where to add image to thread. In the pics, you see x5 monitors working, but only x2 are connected to the miniDP to HDMI and the other x3 are external USB to HDMI cards that work off of the internal video card. Btw, I greatly appreciate any help!!!

Regardless of VGA or HDMI adapter. 4 of them must be active. Not sure why you'd prefer VGA over HDMI though. Keep with a digital signal. The longer the analog run the more the signal is problematic. Stay with a digital signal. 50' run is a long run for video. You might have drop out issues if you don't boost the signal.

I suggest you use active single-link Mini-DP to DVI adapters and then get DVI-HDMI cables. A DVI-HDMI cable is one end is DVI the other is HDMI. Regardless of what you use, the active adapters will cost out at $25 each.

Get the active adapters at Newegg and the cables at Monoprice.

O.k, first of all thanks for taking the time to help out. I do prefer HDM Iover VGA for sure, but I have been having a really hard time with all this and now finding out that there is no such thing as an active minDP to HDMI adapter, has frustrated me big time.

Now, your saying that I can use my x2 AMD Firepro 2460's connected with an active miniDP to DVI-I? The adapters that came with the card are miniDP to DVI-D, and I know that cannot work with VGA. So, get active miniDP to DVI-I adapters then just get DVI-I (female) to HDMI (male) cables and that will work? If your sure, this will save me and I will owe you big-time! Thx

Be mindful on my setup the longest I've ran is using 25 foot DVI-HDMI cables. No idea on using 50' runs.

DVI-D, DVI-I, ?? Cause what came with the AMD Firepro 2460 was DVI-D

Attached is an image of which DVI adapter came with it.

Well, right now, there are x2 50' runs and x2 35' + 15', and 25 + 25' runs totaling x6 runs. x2 of the Firepro 2460 outputs work fine and x3 of the external video cards run fine, so I would think that 50' HDMI is fine, but that's just going off of what's working right now. I'm not wanting to use the external video cards (Star Tech USB to HDMI external card).
