well right now Newegg has the Sapphire Radeon 5870 EyeFinity 6 edition for 280$. I was lookin to upgrade GPUs and get either the 2 5870s and CF them or 2 6950s and CF them. Then i saw that the 6990 is "possibly" getting released on the 8th, so that made me look at 5970 prices which will (cross my fingers) drop with 6990 release. So i am wondering would it be a better deal to get the 5870s for 280 ea, or get 2 6950s? Or wait till the "8th" see what the 6990 brings and either snag one of those or watch the prices on 5970s drop and make a move? Current Setup is 3 dell 23in monitors in suround with my 460s. and have a plan of 5 in portrait later on. "top of the line" is NOT a must for me all i want to be able to do is max out all settings and have at least 2 or 4x AA in games and the 460s can barely do that at 3240X1920 or 5760X 1080. Let me know what you would do or what you think! Also i should have stated that i do not plan to get new GPUs for 1.5 to 2 years. Also Perfect CF scaling is not important i just want a GPU that will work with 5 monitors and will play games and at my Req. Settings. |

Shortly there will be new 5x1P capable cards, but for now the 5870 Eyefinity 6 is the only option. It's a shame you didn't get the itch to upgrade a few days ago when the 5870 Eyefinity 6 was on sale for $180 at Newegg and Amazon. I picked up my second one with the deal. If you really want 5x1P and a 6000-series card, there'll be a 6870 Eyefintiy 6 shortly. Too bad it's not a 6970 or 6950 though. |

But then i read that a few posts down that the 6950 and 70 cant do 5x1p unless you use softth or a hub that isnt out yet. So right now it looks like i only have 3 options and thats Suck it up and get 5870s and upgrade in a year or 1.5 years, get a 6990, OR hope that the 5990 will dramaticly lower the price of the XFX Radeon 5970 E6 card to the 500$ range and get that... but the last one is very unlikely lol. |

5x1P is pretty much uncharted territory up till December 2010. For awhile I didn't think AMD was going to release it because of the limited userbase. I'm mostly curious to see how much the new 6870 Eyefinity 6 will cost. Not seen anything about a 6970 or 6950 version yet though. |

December??? dang... will probably cost the same as the current 5870 E6's cost... 500+ for not being a big user base they still like to milk it, but i guess thats business |

5x1P was in internal testing with AMD for awhile. It didn't get released till 10.12a driver release mid-december. I had an older internal development build earlier last year for a projection demo for AMD but that wasn't a release version of the driver. |
