Post subject:  Help with 1920 x 1200 Main Monitor and going Eyefinity

So.. I've been doing some research on this site and found that if I plan on going to a triple monitor setup with Eyefinity my main display (Dell 2407) will be forced into 1920 x 1080 and have black bars on the top and bottom.. (This is if I go with 2x 1920 x 1080 monitors)

Is my only option now to find a 1920 x 1200 res. monitor to keep from getting black bars? The prices and rarity of 1200 monitors seems to have gone way up recently and I have no idea why.

Should I sell this one and go with 3x 1920 x 1080?

Thanks for the help

Yeah 1920x1200 mons are rare and expensive. I do not know a way to get around the black bars. Maybe going for 3x1080 is a better solution but it just comes down to money.

At least you should be able to get a DP mon to cut out one little PITA with EF!

Ya.. been pricing out some 1920x1080 monitors, probably what I'll end up doing, this monitor goes for about 250$ on eBay so it should be a nice little discount on the 3 monitors I'll have to buy.

If anyone has some links to good quality under 200$ monitors let me know

Thanks for the reply

I have 1 dell 2407 and 2 dell 1920x1080. I cant force the 2407 into 1080, its greyed out so the image is stretched, when i first set it up it worked, now it wont :(

Same issue I ran into 2months ago. I had a 24" Samsung 16:10 and tried to figure out if I could run 2x 16:9 monitors on the sides. Well long story short I would recommend sticking to the same size monitor and aspect ratio. Even better having matching monitors allows for easy video presets. Like when I want it brighter when the sun is bright I can easily jump to game preset on all 3 and have them match.

I ended up selling my 24" and buying two Asus 23" to go with my extra Acer 23" I had. Well the same size was the way to go but the slight difference in color was annouying. I then adjusted them rather close but I kept seeing the difference in color. I ended up selling my Acer 23" and bought another Asus 23" so I have matching Asus 23".

Last the icing on the cake was the Ergotech stand that is reviewed on this website. Expensive but worth it.

I spent $400 on the three monitors and $295 on the stand. Selling my 24 and 23 I made $320. Cheaper monitors but they do great and am happy with the picture quality. I kept all the boxes and could resell them a year from now if I want to upgrade to something 3d or 24".

My 2cents. Keep them the same size and even better same brand. Just avoid all the hassle I tried to make a workaround and ended up with three new monitors. The 3x 24" 16:10 would be the best option if the funds would permit.

Thanks for the reply

I tried out 3x 21.5 Acers but felt they were too small so I returned those, sold my Dell for 280$ on eBay and spent 480$ on 3x HannsG 23.6 LCDs from newegg since they had them on sale yesterday. I think I'll be a happy camper when they come in :)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254044&Tpk=hanns%20g%2023.6

I actually made 580$ with the returns + sale price of my old monitors and only spent 480$ on the HannsG, not a bad deal
