Hello,

Newbie here ! :D

My problem:I am trying to get the third monitor working by using an active adapter. When I go to the Ati Catalyst it just would display the two monitors.

I bought the Sapphire 44000-02-40R Active Display Port DVI Cable as seen here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-44000-02-40R-Active-Display-Cable/dp/B00433C5Y4/ref=pd_cp_computers_1 So I can use a third monitor with the Ati 5870 "not the 6 mini display port edition".

My setup is:

1. Dell 24inch 2408WFP @ 1920 x 1200 and its hooked up with a single link Dvi cable to the 5870.
2. Viewsonic 19inch @ 1280 x 1024 connected just like the the 24inch monitor.
3. dell 19 inch @ 1280 x 1024 , I tried connecting this with the active display port adapter from Dvi to Display port but no good. I was using a dual link Dvi cable.

I should note that I tried alternating combinations with all monitors and with different cables and all monitors and cables apart from the adapter are ok.

Am I doing something wrong ?

I should note that when I insert this active adapter to the display port it kinda gets stuck there and is really hard to pull out, however once out it seems everything is okay in both the 5870 and adapter, I am not sure if I have a faulty one?

People on Amazon have confirmed that this adapter works for eyefinity.

I am not necessarily planning to use this for eyefinity gaming, that would be the next step, for the time being I just want the pc to recognize the third monitor normally.

the driver am using is: Driver Packaging Version 8.702-100202a-095693C-ATI

Could it be a case of me having to use dual link DVI cables for the other two monitors ?

Or do I need to update the drivers ?

I am on a Win 7 machine.

Any thoughts?

Thank you for your time !

=D

It sounds like a faulty cable or adapter. I'd try a different cable first though.

I changed the cables and they all work fine.

Is there anything else that I haven't tried ?

Is there a way to confirm if my display port in the 5870 is buggered or not ?

Those adapters don't get "stuck". There's actually a locking mechanism on them and you need to press the release to get them out. So, if you've been just pulling until they come loose, you may have damaged the port. But, I doubt you damaged the connections.

I've given up on Active Adapters for my system. None of them seem to work. So, I'm using a DP->VGA adapter and it works. They're fairly cheap and, if your monitors have D-SUB/VGA input, I'd give one of them a trial.

Hey!

I have the same problem!

Im using a Sapphire 6950 and got 3 monitors.

Two of them is connected with single link dvi cables directly
The last one is connected with a miniDP to DP then a HIS active DP to single link dvi adapter

6950 miniDP - miniDP to DP cable that came with the card - HIS active adapter to Single Link DVI - Single link cable - monitor

I just dont get why this is not working! 3rd monitor (allways the one connected on the miniDP) is not showing.

This is the adapter: http://www.hisdigital.com/un/product2-567.shtml
