So I broke down and picked up a 5870 eye6 [ Woot! :) ]

Now I'm figuring out how to drive my 6 monitors (all DVI/VGA/HDMI)...

right now i'm planning to use the 2 passive miniDP --> DVI adapters + either 4 of the cheap minidp-->VGA or 4 active DP --> DVI adapters.

I read through part of the "Where to get DP-DVI Active Adaptors (& what to look for)" thread, and I see that it mentions buyer beware of the Apple adapter... but doesn't list why.

What's the problem with the apple miniDP --> DVI adapter?

If they really still suck... is the acctel one the currently recommended?

Is anybody using 4 of they cheap bytecc miniDP -->VGA adapters? any issue?

also, has anybody tried the bytecc DP --> HDMI adapter... http://www.directron.com/apdphdmi.html ? do they work for monitor 3-6?

--It tends to cut out more often, and leaves behind a nasty streaking of colors, or white lines across the screen.

--That seems to be the consensus, but people are having issue with that product as well.

I am, I'm using 2 DP->DVI and 2 DP->VGA with two more ordered from monoprice. No real issues, except that sometimes my monitors don't go into sleep as they should [I havn't seen this from any other brand], but they do pass through EDID info. Also remember, these work because ALL DP->VGA Adapters are ACTIVE because it goes from Digital to Analog. They just get powered through the DP Port.

They require one of the clocks from the processor, so you'd still need to use an active adapter.

Greetings, I too am now trying to find out what adaptors I will require for an E6.

I am looking to drive 3x dvi and 3x vga from the card.
I was looking at my local retailer's list of mini-DP to DVI/VGA at scan.co.uk.

From what I have read the VGA adaptors are all active. So any 3 active vga adaptors should work out the box??
Where I am slightly confused with is the likes of the DVI adaptors, I read that many folks use active DVI adaptors on cards with dvi/hdmi and a single displayport.

However on the E6, does that mean each of the DP to DVI adaptors need to be active, or just 1 active and the others passive, or can they all be passive?? :?

I was looking at the folowing DVI adaptors..
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Dell-Active-DisplayPort-to-DVI-(Dual-Link)-Adapter-1080P-Ready
and
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Scan-HDMINIDP-DVI-Mini-Display-Port-11a-to-DVI-Adaptor-Cable-%28Apple-Compatible%29

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

This is True, they work just fine out of the box.

2 can be passive, as with all 5000 series cards, the internal clocks take care of DVI / HDMI. Any DVI connections after the 2 passive ones, MUST be active.

I was looking at the folowing DVI adaptors..
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Dell-Active-DisplayPort-to-DVI-(Dual-Link)-Adapter-1080P-Ready
and
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Scan-HDMINIDP-DVI-Mini-Display-Port-11a-to-DVI-Adaptor-Cable-%28Apple-Compatible%29

The 1st one is the one you need. It's an active adapter. Remember that the 5870 comes with a TON of adapters. Including: 2xMiniDP->DP, 2xMiniDP->DVI(Passive), MiniDP->HDMI

Get this: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Dell-Active-DisplayPort-to-DVI-(Dual-Link)-Adapter-1080P-Ready out of the two you posted, this one will work just fine. Well as fine as people have been having with DP->DVI (active) adapters.

Ahh many thanks for the reply suiken_2mieu.

Would you be able to help confirm if the passive adaptor I linked to, would work as the 2 passive adaptors that I would be likely to use?

So use 3x vga.. which are all active anyways, + 1 dell dp>dvi active + 2 dp>dvi passive.
If the passive device I linked to does not work, is there one that you may be able to recommend from that list?

I have a feeling I may be getting an OEM card without box and cables, ive no idea as its a gift.

Many thanks for your assistence!

Since I'm currently using 2 passive DVI adapters you should be straight. If you don't get cables, any Passive MiniDP->DVI should work.
