given the current run of gfx cards and their ability to run multiple monitors at very high resolution, yet also given the need for more power to run modern games with even more power than is currently avaliable..

how reasonable is it to expect a hydra solution to be forwards compatible with the 6xxx series ati cards? would it enable a 5xxx series and 6xxx series to merge in crossfire?

:?

no XFire, but yes, you will be able to use the two cards together with hydra. ATM, I think it would be sweet to use the 5000 series with the GTX480 to get some real power behind Eyefinity.

The Hydra Chip is a total mess (Software-wise) at the moment. Wouldn't go for it.

It can be done, and works, although the performance gain is much to be desired at present due to hydra software needing performance tweaks.

As it stands, its not worth the money for the tiny performance gain one would get.
I have been mulling on the idea too, of getting a cheaper 5xxx series card for eyefinity, then boosting its power with an existing GTX285 I own, however by the time hydra sort out the performance issues, ATI should by then have xfire+eyefinity compatible drivers, which is ultimately likely to be a cheaper and higher performing solution.

Check out this for a review on eyefinity + hydra.

Although Asus and Gigabyte are using the Hydra chip now, and with recent claims about the drivers actually being improved alot, i have high hopes for it.

Probably gonna wait on my new setup until i see results on this.

Looks like PowerColor have built a ATI 5770 with a Lucid Hydra Chip embeded, meaning you could slap the card into any existing system or motherboard without sli or xfire support, and get the perfomance boost from the addition of any exisiting card you might already have installed.

The fact that no mobo change is require, this is a very tempting product for me, to be able to upgrade to an eyefinity based system boosted by a gtx285. :D

DO WANT!

EDIT: I do onlly see a single DVI, possibly a displayport connector and a s-video out?
Looking for further info about additonal outputs to drive a 3screen eyefinty.

EDIT: looks like it sports 1x HDMI, 1x DVI, 1x DP :)
