Post subject:  ATI Extremists Needed

Okay here is my problem. Computer is almost finished Video card is the last thing. I have 3x Asus VW246H i would like to run them at 5760x1080 cause I usually use one for my Xbox360/DTV. I'm really stuck I need some help I mainly play Quake Games, Modern Warfare, Borderlands and WoW at full effects. What should I got with

1. 5970 Solo
2. 5970 CFX
3. 5870 CFX 1/2GB Version?
4. 5850 CFX 1/2GB Version?

Only reason I say 1/2GB Version is I also do Video Editing, Photoshop, and 3DS Max/Maya.

Price isn't to much of a issue since this is also my work PC/Play pc but if I can save money and get the same benefits as a High end card with a low end card why spend the extra money. That's why I'm asking the ATI Head's I have always used Nvida and lately I have been getting sick and tired of my Nvidia drivers crashing and always having to roll back plus i think I want to step away from Nvidia for a while see how ATi plays out.

PC Specs are
Asus Rampage 3
IC7 3.2
12gb DDR3 1866
4x1TB Raid 0 (Backup)
2x640GB Raid 0 (System Windows 7 Ult 64bit)
Corsair 1k PSU

Keep in mind that more than 3 GPU's will not work well with Eyefinity (yet).

So:

- 5970 CFX
- Tri-fire 5870
- Tri-fire 5970 + 5870

Will not work well.. Search on the forum for more info..

Single 5970 could be a good choice when overclocked (900-1000 MHz), but probably only on water..

5870 CFX on air would overclock better and, with stock clocks, is faster than single 5970.

MW2 @ 5040x1600 with 5970 stock, i had to tone down the eyecandy a little but it was well playable.

DIRT2 with all bells and whistles plays OK on the stock 5970.

I really would like to switch to Tri-fire 5970 + 5870 on water just to get METRO2033 going with DX11, but this combo is NOT scaling well with Eyefinity..

*EDIT* i just saw that you want to play 6 Mpixel while i play @ 8 Mpixel.. It think single 5970 for the games you are playing is good to go.. (cheapest) 5870 CFX would be ideal just a tad more expensive.. Can keep em stock!! And add a 3rd or 4th later on!

tri_fire works fine with Eyefinity on only a few games.

Just cause 2
Dirt 2
Avatar
Bioshock 2
AVP

All my other games dont and get hese issues:
Mad flashing, Glitches and Artifacts

games that dont work:
All valve games
Wolfenstine
Ghost busters
MOH
Call of duty
and some others

But for the ones that dont like Crossfire i simply turn my 5850 off and use my 5970 and its all ok.
later on in drivers i suppose beter support will be added to the tri-fire setup and im fine with it atm

I would swap the pair of 640G drives for a SSD, unless you need a monster amount of storage on those drives too. In that case, I would get Samsung F3 1TB Drives, they are very quick.
