| Post subject: | New Eyefinity setup - 1200 or 1080? |
Hi all. I have a 5850 on order & want to go with an Eyefinity 3 monitor landscape setup. I currently have an hp 2475w (1920x1200) as my only monitor, and I'm trying to decide whether to go with another two of those (about £800), or sell it & go with three new 1920x1080 res 24" monitors (Dell LED backlight model perhaps - about £750 plus I could sell the hp, although I suspect the IQ won't be as good on these). As far as I can tell, the 24" monitor market seems to be going in the direction of 16:9 (1080) height displays, and I'm keen to ensure any solution I put together will be supported by in-game resolutions for the foreseeable future. So, do you think putting a significant amount of ££ into a 16:10 setup right now is the wrong way to go, or does it not really matter? Indeed, perhaps I should even be looking at 3 x 22" displays (for performance reasons)?. Many thanks for any thoughts. |

I doubt very much that support for 16:10 resolutions is going to disappear any time soon... and while those extra 120 pixels might not sound like a lot, they make a difference. (120 pixels is more than the height of the Taskbar...) |

(120 pixels is more than the height of the Taskbar...) Exactly 3 times the height of the win7 task bar ;) |

Hmm, well if I could have, I would've went with 1920x1200 monitors. But because of money restraints i went with 1080p monitors. Reason is, if you get a monitor with decent scaling options, you can have 3x1080p if you want or 3x1200p. 3x1080p will give you a greater Horizontal FOV than 3x1200p. |

Thanks guys, that's good enough for me. I was kinda worried about giving up the great IQ of the hp anyway as I do a lot of image editing. Looks like I'll have a couple more 2475w's on the way soon. I wonder if a single 5850 will cope (L4D2, racing sims, Dragon Age etc), though I guess I could always go crossfire if necessary :rockout. Cheers. |

You dont need 2475s tbh. A few 2nd hand Dell ultrasharps would do just as well for half the price. These are your side monitors, so they dont have to have perfect IQ. One of mine even has a dead pixel, but I keep procrastinating on calling dell cause I keep forgetting its there. |

Any experience of this? |

I have a 245T, a 2408, a 2407 in eyefinity. They look perfect in games and movies, albeit slightly off when web-browsing. Like if a forum skin was stretched across all 3 screens, one might be a shade darker or lighter. But where it counts, I can't tell. Oh, this was also the first time I ever adjusted my monitor color settings. So I'm sure anyone who is competent at calibrating monitors can get them to match just fine. And even if its not perfect, your peripherals wont notice it. |

Ok thanks, that's some food for thought. |

I do agree with your post in the other thread though. I can never go back to TN anymore. |
