First time post here but have been reading around this forum when I decided to go for an eyefinity setup.
Seeing the issues around with DP->DVI on the average flatpanel and expensive monitor stands I decided to buy myself a samsung MD230X3 setup with native DP connections.
It took me a full reinstall to get eyefinity working due to conflicts between the cataclyst control centre software and it's all up and working minus 1 problem.
If I leave all 3 monitors connected to my ASUS EAH5970 with 2x DVI and 1x miniDP->DP the fans on my card start spinning to 100% and all monitors stay blank. I do however hear my windows booting up and giving the welcome to windows sound.
If I unplug the dp cable on power on and replug it straight after the pc boots normally and eyefinity works like a charm all day.

If my minidp to dp cable would be broken I'd think it wouldn't give an image at all so I suspect it has something to do with the graphics card or some other hardware issue. I couldn't find any similar issues around the internet though or my googling is just bad :)

Hi ,
I too suffer from the same issue, after a lot of hunting it appears to be an issue with the DP cable itself.
Apparently allot of DP cables have the 20th pin connected ( 20th pin is for power) this is not recommended by the DP specifications as it causes these faults , really the only answer is to find a cable that is correctly made to spec from what I have read the Dell cable apparently works just fine I can’t confirm this myself as mine is still on order.

I have the same issue.I also use a mini dp to dp cable. Can you please answer me if you have noticed color or image differences between the dp and dvi-d connections. If so,do you think the solution might be a active mini dp to dvi-d adapter?

Greetings...

I'll order a bunch of different cables then and hope I find a decent 1.

As far as I know, when the DP connections on the card stop sending a signal, they cannot re-send the signal without resetting the plug. I use a single DP connection (mini DP - > dp -> VGA -> monitor) and I have the same issue in Eyefinity mode. I believe it has to do with how the cards were engineered with 3 outputs, as with single screen it is fine. If I do a cold boot, however, I do not notice any issues - I would try and see if you are able to do a normal shut down, and then a cold boot-up, rather than doing a restart (and then having to unplug and replug all your monitors. Also, if you manually turn off the screens you shouldn't have any issue, but if your computer turns off the signal to the screen for standby, sleep, or even to switch users, then you run into the same issue. I don't think it is an issue on the cables, but rather how the cards are engineered (I use a 5970).

Took me a while but i've found one for those with the same issue.
It's an Accell UltraAV cable with this labels: mDP-DP 2m B119B-007J
The barcode is 826388106514.

Hope it helps someone else as well.
