I'm not very impressed in fact, 22% increase only over an Intel Xeon W3540 at 5048 MHz with four GTX 285s in SLI...

Core i9?? I didnt even know we had those yet.

So much money in that setup... 4 cards, a killer quad crossfire mobo, the cpu, the cooling.

Id love to see that run the crysis benchmark loop :D

I think the i9 may be the straw that broke the camels back and make me upgrade from my q6600 if it can do like 4ghz on high end air and its not ultra expensive I am sold.

With the 32nm shrink it should OC better than the i7 even with the 2 extra cores. Of course the 2 cores extra probably means lower clock speed and thats bad news for games that do not support the cores but after OC that wont matter anymore :D

H264 encoding in half the time!

Core i9 already has samples out to the overclockers (obviously) although there are no chips available retail. ;) Also, Core i9 is apparently going to be sodding expensive. Although I really don't have any idea just what that means in real money. ;)

That's damned impressive. As for 'only' a 22% increase... when you're talking about scores that high, even 5% is impressive. It's not like 99.99% of people are going to be running their computers on LN2. ;)

what I mean is that the hardware upgrade is pretty damn impressive
xeon => core i9
5 Ghz => 6 Ghz
GTX285 => HD5870

I'm just a little dumbstruck that for so many important upgrades, the score only takes 22% ...

and I wonder what's not shown in this news that means this difference :
for example :
-is the GTX285 more overclocked (percentage wise) than the HD5870 ?
-is the xeon architecture more efficient clock for clock ?

I'll say it another way around, I expected more from the HD5870 (more so with a core i9) ..
