Good Afternoon all,

About to order a HD 5580 and I will obviously need an adaptor for my third screen, can anyone confirm or deny whether this will work:

http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MB571Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTA4MzU1ODY

many thanks

Mark

Along with a mini-DP to DP adaptor, that should work. However, word on the internet is that that adaptor isn't very good. Kyle Bennett of HardOCP had it BSOD his system when he tested it, although I don't know further details of that.

Yeah officially YES (with a passive mini-DP to DP adaptor) but check out the customer reviews on the store, a lot of very unhappy customers. However at least one guy over at [H] got it working with those, so if they'll take it back if it doesn't work then give it a try.

i think it having to do with the first generation of the adapter that caused all the ruckus and bad reviews. I read lots about people taking it back to exchange at a apple store for one with newer firmware. There doesnt seem to be a flash-update available so people are taking them back hoping to get a fresher one with newer firmware. I'm an Apple fan-boy and all, but i took the safe bet, and ordered the dell one with the 25% off accessories coupon code i found in this forum.

the adapter should arrive this friday, and i can try out 5040x1050. right now my 5870 is powering my 50" panasonic viera plasma, Oh Man does it look nice to have a game maxed out on all settings and not worry about frame rates.

I still attribute the BSOD he experienced not to the Apple adapter but rather to the display rotation and the game not liking the launch in portrait mode. My money is on that the Apple adapter does work, but has a mixed bag of reviews because of the early firmware that was later addressed. The closer the EyeFinity6 gets to release I'm sure we'll hear more in relation to mini-dp to dvi adapter options. There are other people with experience with that particular adapter. It might be nice to see someone explain thier experiences with it besides the single [H] review issue.

BTW, do we have any confirmation just what the 6-port card is really called? I've seen it called "5870 Six" and "EyeFinity6".

I have decided to give the adaptor a go, in fact i have been sitting in a phone queue for the last 10 mins trying to get hold of my local apple store.

I shall update the forum on how it goes.

Cheers

Mark

Yep, came to the same conclusion, the OS wouldn't have any knowledge of an adaptor sitting on the end of a graphics output.
