This is simply amazing. I haven't owned an ATI card since the Radeon 9800 but I think this just might make me convert. This is going to be an expensive month indeed. :D

Now I am sitting and wondering what setup I should get for this new card.

I won't be getting 2x since both SLI and CF ain't worth that extra cash since it's pure rubbish from own experience. But a single card seams to pull it of easy so why bother?.

But 3x24 or 5x22 in portrait mode if possible or what ah the choices :P

Somewhere I did read that stock is supposed to be reaching retailers during the next two weeks, so that when the NDAs expire the product will actually be available.

How this actually plays out might be different.

If ATi are shipping to retailers, that is a good thing. Means that there might actually be some availability. If a single 5870 can outperform a 4870X2 by as much as some of the leaked stuff off Chinese sites seems to be implying... I'm going to be relegating my 4870X2 to another rig in the not too distant future...

Or mailing it to me out of....uhhh....the kindness of your heart? ;)

Actually, if I upgrade to an ATI card it would be stupid of me to not get an EF model. My TH2Go works great, though, and I won't have the $ anytime in the near-to-mid future to upgrade to big panels, so I will likely end up staying with NVIDIA for the time being.

Well, if you wanted a 4850, I'd probably think about it, as that would likely be the card that got pulled to be replaced by the 4870X2. ;) I never replace and sell - stuff always get pushed 'next system down' until they bottom out and then they go in the 'spares' box. ;)

Eyefinity thing will bring multi monitor gaming to the masses. or at least make it more affordable.

and best of all it will expose triple/multi head gaming more to the mainstream and giving notice to game Devs that way they will start to bring native support it.

instead of a niche group of geeks with $$ that buys $300 matrox th2g box in addition to a fast gpu. with Eyefinity, the customer base of multimonitor gaming is larger and more of an incentive for game devs to support it.

Large size LCD displays are getting cheaper and cheaper now.

As much as we are crazy about triplehead gaming. Other forums and people I talk to are not too keen on spending $300 on a Th2g box. and in addition to a $300 GPU that's not cheap.

Many people think the $300 for a matrox TH2g is alot of money condering that the $ can be used for other system parts like faster cpu, gpu, ram etc.. so they don't join the th bandwagon.

but if we can get a fast GPU for $350 and it comes with triplehead support it will make it a more compelling reason to buy.

I can see triplehead gaming will get very popular in the next year or two

We could have a trade GPU's down party, eventually ending at my brother whos running a Geforce 2 MX 400. Yeah. He needs an upgrade.

Appreciate the thought, but I'm sure others need it far more than me. DaFox's brother, for example. Somebody rescue that man! lol.

I'm trying to help my own brothers upgrade, as a matter of fact. 1 down, 2 to go.

I don't really understand the reasoning behind that sort of choice, myself. The three bits of my computers that have lasted me well past any hardware actually 'in the box' are the screen, keyboard and mouse. They're three of the four things I always tell people to avoid skimping on - along with the PSU. Personally, I've never been able to justify the headaches involved with TH2Go (that and I just don't have room for three 24" monitors in the same place at the minute) which is why I've never quite made the jump...

Is this a pity story? :P I've got a 128MB FireGL 8800 somewhere if he wants that. :P

Haha... if he's running an MX400, he's still got an AGP board. Not much good a 4850 or 4870X2 will do him. ;)
