Hi all, I'm coming to you with a pretty bizarre request. I want to play a game on my workstation monitor - just for the lulz, but I also think it might be a good experience. The monitor's resolution is 1920*1920 - a 1:1 aspect ratio. The games I have are Dirt 3 Complete Edition and Hitman Absolution. Dirt 3 detects the resolution fine (1920x1920) but will still give a weird auto aspect ratio (16:9 I think) that clips the edges of the game as well as letterboxing. I can choose between 4:3 and 5:4, but no 1:1. So I'd basically like to know how to force a weird aspect ratio, and I'm sure this is place to ask that question! I look forward to sharing my experience with you. Thanks for your help EDIT: Hitman actually works fine. I was having trouble with it before, but when the aspect ratio is set to auto, it is perfect |

Nevermind! Is just the menus that are broken. Gameplay works fine! |

That's the first I hear of a 1:1 Monitor in actual use. I've heard that they exist before but never encountered one. What kind of Work do you do on a 1:1 aspect ratio? |

You don't usually find them outside of very specific medical and scientific uses. This is an EIZO EV2730Q, which is a "consumer" and productivity targeted monitor. I bought it for programming - to save me the hassle of constantly rotating my 16:9's from landscape to portrait, but it's blown me away by just how much it has enhanced my productivity in even the most menial tasks. Web browsing is a delight - most pages work well with the 1920px across, so you don't get any of the whitespace you usually get on an ultrawide, plus a stack more vertical space. Writing, spreadsheets, databases all speed up quickly. It's also likely to replace my 21:9 as a video editing monitor - since it can display a full 1920*1080 video and can comfortably fit all of the tools I need to edit underneath. This has freed up a 16:9 monitor I usually use as a fullscreen preview. Being able to contain the editor to one monitor is a HUGE timesave, since I don't have to constantly be minimizing Premiere to make the 16:9 monitor usable. It's been a long time since I've had a piece of equipment that has so drastically changed the way I work, so quickly (only had it 3 days now). I'll film and post a review of it in a week or two. Just unfortunate it costs $2k. ![]() Sh!t for gaming though. |
