So along comes Aion, a beautiful, new MMO ready to challenge WoW with its stunning graphics (running the Crytek engine), except wouldn't you know -- it renders widescreen formats in the most hideous VERT- fashion possible. Are we doomed? Would a FOV fix possibly be derivative of the Far Cry hack, since both games are running the same game engine? Screenshots: 1680x1050

Would it really be possible to use a hack in a MMO though ? I think not. :? |

Yeah, probably wouldnt be allowed/work as hacks ... well, lets just say multiplayer games and hacks dont work well together ;) |

its got its own NC shield system. even some UPS software is interfered with as it stops COM activitity to some external devices. |

It would be against the ToS, as a hack is with any game, but it's likely possible to do it and not have it detected. |

dopefish, do you think the hack would be derivative of the Far Cry hack, since both games share the same engine? Or would that have no bearing? |

The game has probably changed too much to have it similar to how Far Cry handles it. In MMO games, the FOV is typically free (you can zoom in/out, or when you move the camera up against the wall it brings the camera in). It's likely possible to find what sets the FOV, correct it before the FOV gets written, and then write out the correct one. I don't have the game so there's really not much I can do. |

Well, my bug report to NCSoft's tech support got escalated once, and I finally received the following response: We appreciate your feedback. Aion uses the Crytek Engine that was created for the game Crysis. All video management is done by the engine and cannot be changed. Please let us know if you have further questions. So, ok, aside from the fact that I believe his facts are slightly off -- the Crytek engine was used for Far Cry, the Crytek2 engine was used for Crysis -- 1. Are there any technical arguments on how Aion could patch this, or is he correct that it's out of their hands? 2. Did Crytek ever patch their original CryENGINE to fix this deficiency, or have there only been user hacks? |

I believe there was a user hack for Farcry, but that means very little. They license the engine as it comes from the "factory" and would have to do all the changes themselves, then run all those changes through QA and testing, and it actually ends up an expensive process. Not that I am saying they shouldn't, I just think a lot of people don't realize the costs associated with such a seemingly minor change. Developers on the Bioware forum are surprisingly frank about these things, and I remember one of them once stating that changing one small thing in a patch can costs thousands of dollars. |

Well I'm going to try a long shot and try to get help from Crytek... They solved the problem maybe NCSoft has the version that will work... http://www.mycrysis.com/thread.php?threadid=42417 |
