| Post subject: | Vista32 + 24" TFT + 8800GT unable to get black pillars |
Hi there, i've read many posts here trying to help myself but i just cant get the black boxes working-- doesnt matter what i try. ok first some info about my sys: 24 inch yuraku mva panel connected per single link dvi cable. native resolution is 1920x1200. i am running vista 32 bit on a p35 intel board with c2d. service pack 1 is installed. graphics card is a gf 8800gt 512mb with latest nvidia drivers (174.74). my big problem is, every time i wanna change the flat screen settings in the nvidia control center it resets itsself to default ("controlled by flat screen"). i jut cant set it to: "disable scaling". well i tryed many different versions of nvidia drivers.. ALL with the same shit: it doesnt work. I tried many how-to.. especially the one with changing of registry settings to get old menu and refresh rates. everything worked fine until last step where u must go to old menu and edit the advanced timings. Here the panel crashes and vista reports an error. i think this is cause of Vista and the old panel..they arent compatible i think i'm just a small step away from desperation- here must be a damn way to get this crap working?! am I the only with these problems?! cant be true damn but thanks for your help.. maybe some1 has another idea |

ForceWare 174.74 do not support 8800 GTs :!: Try the 169.25 instead... If the flat panel scaling options still won't work, check out nvidia's OverScanUtils - but if I'm not mistaken, you shouldn't need this dirty fix anymore, so double-check that you installed the correct drivers. |

Well u can download the 174.74 beta drivers on nvidia website. it does support 8800gt otherwise i would not have been able to install them?! Why i chose this one is the fact, the it performs much better than 169.25 on high resolutions. But u are right, i ll try 169.25 first and see if scaling options work there on 174.74 i still downloaded overscanutils and tried it without sucess :( |

I use the new 174 drivers for my 8800GT in Vista 32 and scaling with fixed ratio works perfectly. |

By what I've gathered Nvidia has released a beta 174.xx version with all geforce 7-8-9 cards, a sort-of official/certified 174.xx version with geforce 9 only and the current available official one still being 169.25. Gee, it's like they want confusion on purpose isn't it? Anyways, the fixed-ratio scaling has been, let's say, unpredictable. I've tried various configurations with my 4 displays. The same display and card under different OS and neighbours (aka, other enabled displays or video cards) have differing options that work/dont work under scaling. Some times all of them work, including with fixed-ratio, others only do not scale works, others nvidia not-fixed and display handle work while fixed ratio and do not scale dont. Overall, I miss the days prior to the new control panel, where at least options worked when enabled, and didnt when not. Oh I've tried to use the hack to use the older style control panel with the current drivers, all it did was screw over my config and had me need to clean-out and reinstall my drivers. Shame that 200.xx driver april-fool ain't true, maybe then they'd work as they're supposed to. |

I use the program as intended and it just works. Yes, I have SP1. |

i wish there existed a patch, too. but well i can't do anything more than i did and i'm fed up with this shit. tried all of the popular workarounds with no sucess. this is so sad ;) but what am i complaining to you, this is nvidias fault and not yours. so maybe one day (ill think one year could be realistic..) i can use a working scaling options menu |

I think on top of nvidia having buggy drivers the issue lies with just about every panel implementing the 'standard' eid or whatnot that exposes it's timings/resolutions/etc. in a different way so you end up with many things that wont talk to each other properly. |
