I have been trying for a time now to be able to run Counterstrike: Source (and 1.6 for that matter) at lower than the native resolution of 1680*1050.

I've tried to change it to 1280*800 by editing my launch options (-w 1280 - h 800) with no luck. If I try to run 4:3, 640*480 my monitor (Samsung 205BW) stretches it and it doesn't look that good.

My relevant specs:

7800GT
Samsung 205BW with native resolution of 1680*1050.
Hope you guys can help.. :)

What resolutions can you get on your windows desktop?
Is your monitor connected Via DVI or VGA?

My monitor has either DVI or VGA, but when Using DVI I cant get all the resolutions that I like to use.

I'm using DVI and in Windows I can only get the regular 4:3 resolutions (800*600,1280*1024 etc) and the only widescreen res is 1680*1050. I'm gonna try to connect it via VGA now.

dude, the DVI interface is MUCH better than VGA. Its colors are more accurate.

You need to find a way to make it work with the DVI cable. I have ATI now so I forgot a name but, try a small 3rd party nVidia tweaker where you can set res, refresh rate, and all that stuff.

Yes I know that DVI is better, but its possible to have both DVI and VGA when using an Nvidia card. Just switch signals using the Nvidia drivers.

Also when using DVI it can be a pain to get custom resolutions with the monitor I have. I've had zero luck using DVI for custom resolutions above 1024x640.

So overall I just use VGA to get the resolutions I want, with almost zero difference in quality to me. I honestly can't see much of a difference, if at all.

Peace
