I signed up for GameTap today, so I could play Sam & Max. The GameTap interface does support 1440x900, 1680x1050 and 1920x1080 (among some other lower WS resolutions), but Sam & Max does not.

It only supports 4:3 - 1024x768, 1280x960 (notice not 1280x1024) and 1600x1200. Great game, and enjoying it in Pillarbox.

TellTale Games has a forum that some of their staff and developers post to. I posted a lengthy (but very polite) thread about widescreen and asking why they don't support it. You can see it here. This is one of the few developers that I've seen with active people on their forums, so hopefully it will be a chance for us to hear back as to why someone wouldn't support widescreen.

What a bummer.

The long anticipated return of Sam & Max is finally here... with no WS support. I also cannot bring myself to signing up for things like gametap, gamefly, gamecar, gamedoor, gamedog, or anything game"xxxx".

So it looks like Sam and Max will not be coming to a monitor near me.

Interesting, their new forum style ate the original post ID. Ibrin's diplomatic post can now be found at this link. Unfortunately, no response from the devs. I don't regret my Season 1 preorder though. I loved Sam & Max back in the day, and I paid more than $35 back in 1997 when I bought it.

Don't cry! You don't need GameTap to play the new Sam & Max, you can order it direct from Telltale Games, and the $35 Season 1 pass is a bargain compared to buying all 6 episodes separately at $9 a pop. I wish Valve did something similar with HL2, although those episodes are a lot farther spread apart (all six episodes of Season 1 are supposed to be done by next spring?) I still want widescreen though. Then again, I want widescreen from adventure games dating from the mid 1990s too.

Even if it doesn't support WS, I'll still be getting Sam and Max.

I'm replaying the first game via Scumm and it looks very nice in wide mode :D

Maybe its the cartoony graphics and everything was out of proportion in the first place

Actually, Sam & Max Hit the Road was designed to run in DOS at 320x200, as were most DOS games. This resolution has a ratio of 16:10, much like your average widescreen monitor.

Good remark, i'm also enjoying a lot those 320x200 oldies on a giant 16:10 20" monitor, emulated games and MS DOS vintage games all look fantastic (add a scanlines effect for actual vintage rendering). Considering playing Day of the Tentacle again, and Secret of Monkey Island... and myabe Sam & Max Hit the Road since it's widescreen :)

i got..

Looks like something went horribly wrong somewhere in the Internet. As a result, the page you've requested isn't available. Or maybe it doesn't exist. Maybe it never existed. Maybe this page is a figment of your imagination. Maybe you're a figment of your own imagination. Did we just blow your mind?

entertaining though!

They redesigned their forums, so Ibrin's thread is at this link now. I've thought about bumping it, but unfortunately there are several instances of widescreen resolution queries being denied in the forums, and in an interview. It's kind of a shame since you can see a widescreen monitor in one of the interview compilation videos, so you know the industry is using them. :/
