Hey all,

I noticed on the master game list it says that this game has native widescreen support. One thing I noticed though is in the "screen change" column of the master game list it says stretched.

Anyone know how bad it looks? I really hate that stretched look. Why do they even have widescreen support if they stretch it? Just wondering before I actually invest in the game. Also I run a 1680x1050 res on my labtop.

Thanks in advance,

Voxana

edit: also I did a search to see if there was another thread on this subject before posting. I could not find anything.

Imagine a picture. Then imagine the same picture 20% wider. That's what HOMM V, and any other game classified as "stretch" looks like. If you hate stretching, as do I, depending on your laptop's graphics card, you may be able to configure it so that you can use a 4:3 resolution and have it draw black bars on the left and right.

>>Why do they even have widescreen support if they stretch it?
Most likely, the support for widescreen resolutions was added implicitly rather than explicitly. That is, the game just fetches a list of resolutions from your drivers and makes them available ingame, and the FOV is hardcoded instead of tied to the aspect ratio, making it stretch when a widescreen resolution is selected. As opposed to some programmer sitting down and typing code that specifically makes 1680x1050 available and programming it to stretch when you select it.

Fast Resonpse!

Thanks for the info. I really appreacite that. I looked into my properties on my graphics card. Im running a ATI RADEON 9700.

I clicked on display tab and found the panel properties. There is two radial buttons avalible under scale image. One says "Expand to full panel size" and the other says "Expand while maintaining aspect ratio". I am assuming that selecting "Expand while maintaining aspect ratio" is the proper one to have selected so that the black bars that you speak of are drawn to the left and right.

I hear this game has great graphics. Just a shame if i can't elimitate the stretching. I may take a chance and purchase. I need something new cause im sick of WoW hehe :)

If I do get it ill let you know the outcome if interested.

P.S I love this forum. It has been a great help. I don't post much since all my questions have already been answered in previous posts. Quick Search and master game list for the win!

This game looks like shit. I wanted a turn-based Dark Messiah but I got Warcraft 3.

Disciples III! Where the hell are you?

HoMM5 was developed by the Etherlords guys, what did you expect ? (Incidentally, I just bought a cheap Hammers of Fate expansion to take comparison screenshots in stretch-o-rama for cranky's database)
For the record Dark Messiah "of Might & Magic" has absolutely nothing to do with the HoMM franchise and was developed by the Arx Fatalis guys.
Disciples 3 was first supposed to hit the shelves Q1 2009, it was presented at GamesCom last month, so a Q1 2010 release *may* be plausible - at least for the russian version. :/

I was expecting to feel good about myself for picking up the complete collection for 20$.

Superfly Johnson. That is all.

And off topic, King's Bounty was a let down for me.
