Thank you very much Jackfuste. I haven't been able to play any of these games since I had a 14" screen, now with my 27" this runs fantastically.

Me too, it's my favorite out of the old impression cb games.

Sincerely jackfuste, thank you for doing this, you've given these games a whole new lease on life for me.

thx for your work and i see the resolution numbers in the editor(i have changed the same yesterday), but in the game is the resolution the same again, 800x600 and 1024x768 (and it start not with the 1920 res.)

i have the german version of emperor(with the patch), i think this important for the emperor exe change and thats the reason why it does not work for me, or ?

and whats with the Err(Error) message about the res. number in the editor pic here:?

Hi,

I'm having trouble with the .7z archive that's supposed to contain the fix for Cleopatra. When I download cleopatra.7z and take a look inside with WinRAR, all of the .exes for specific resolutions have a packed filesize of 0 and when I try to unpack them, I get an error message. I've tried redownloading the archive several times but to no avail. This makes me think there's a problem with the version of the file uploaded to the website.

Does anybody know how I can get the original version of this fix?

I looked into 7-Zip and was surprised to find out how much of a superior program it is. I guess it's time for my 8 year free trial free trial of WinRAR (clicking away the reminder it has expired every time I open an archive) to finally come to an end.

7-Zip seems to have solved my problem with the widescreen exe files, too. I never would have thought to try another program because I never had trouble extracting anything with WinRAR before.

@ jackfuste: Thank you very much!!! Outstanding!!!

I've just one little demand: Is it possible to add 1024x600 support? I'm playing a lot on my netbook, these games are amazing and it's so much fun to play them portable.

That would be so nice...

Used the latest Cleopatra-Hack, works with the GoG-Version. I only played for half an hour, seems to work.
Just one problem: when minimizing the control on the right side they don't disappear und their new coordinates are propably hard-coded, since the appear somewhere in the middle of the screen if you move your courser over them. But with this high resolution, you probably don't need this function anyway, so no big loss.

Do you replaced the DATA folder from widescreen fix?
What is your resolution, and on what mission the game crashes when you open a world map?

how's the progress going on Emperor? can't wait for that one^^

I'm working on an interface.

I reinstalled the game (same GoG version as before), re-applied the patch (data folder + exe) and everything seems to work now.
I cannot reproduce the crash, and i'm quite sure i installed everything in the same way before.
When it crashed before,it didn't matter what mission it was,it would crash on every mission when opening World Map.
Resolution i use is 1920x1200.

Anyway, i tried a lot of missions now and everything works brilliantly, guess it was false alarm :)

Thx again for your work, and go go Emperor patch ^^

Hi,

“jackfuste”. I really like the patches you made and I cant thank you enough for your time and effort to make them (especially Pharaoh and Cleopatra).
Phar/Cleo have same engine as Caesar 3 so Caesar 3 should be “easy” for you to make screen resolution fixes.
I would kindly ask you if when you have time, you could check and if possible make widescreen patches for Caesar 3 (1920x1200 and 1920x1080).

Regards.

Hey, jackfuste! Two weeks have passed. Any news about Emperor?
And one more question to you. I'm playing the polish version which contains some language improvements (i.e. diacritical marks). If I compare 2 executables and then replace blocks containing some alphabet and font settings (I've seen a few places like these), will the game work for me with high resolution? How do you think :quest: (So the question boils down to "what are you going to do with that exe?".)
 :onethumb

Ok. I have registerd me, to say "Thank you" to Jackfuste !!! And I`am one of the peoples, waiting for Emperor in widescreen. And I hope also for Caesar 3.

Perhaps, there are peoples, who now "Seebaer" and Vera, performed a Caesar 3, Pharaho and Zeus Forum in german in the beginning of the 20. Century.
Now, I´am 58 years jung.... I dont need english after school, 40 years ago. But I hope, anywhere can unterstand my terrible english.

Also, looking on german page:

I'm just blown away by this!

I've been having the worst time trying to get Pharaoh to function at all - it refuses to run no matter what I try on my Win7 64-bit machine. I've got it running on a virtual box VM of winXP, with guest editions installed, but it resizes the VM window down to its meagre dimensions. I've tried installing your hack, and the game runs fine, but if I try to change the resolution to "1024 x 768" it goes black for a while, and then reverts... any ideas?

Anyway - great work!

Hi,

I bought zeus and pharoah from gog.com and came straight over here for the widescreen files.

The zeus files work perfectly, thanks!

Unfortunately both the pharoah and cleopatra 7-zip files seem to be corrupted or somehow incorrectly packed. When I unpack them I get a message that the compression method is unsupported and I am using 7-zip to unpack them. Can anyone re-upload the files (I need 1920 x 1200 resolution)?

Thanks again!

Wow! Pharaoh, Cleopatra AND Zeus all in glorious 1920x1200? I am speechless. The game looks so amazing even today.

Is there any chance you hex wizards could conjure up one for Emperor as well? I can send you the 1.01 executable if you'd like to (and I'm allowed - forum rules and all that)

:D

Bump for Emperor, Please.

I have not forgotten about the Emperor. Due to problems with my HDD, I have to redo a widescreen fix again. Some resolution (1680x1050; 1920x1080; 1920x1200) have been made.

Instead of a black background, I found a way to draw textures.

I couldn't resist anymore so I made this account to say millions of THANKS for doing all this.
I can finally replay these games and it seems that they are still looking very good.

Now.. as it seems you are getting better at it... Wait... What I'm talking about.. That 1080p screenshot of Emperor looks perfect... Can you please find time to fix Zeus on 1080p as well !?
Things like:
- the black background areas (since I don't know how to program, just to play in photoshop, I've made a workaround fix)

... Just decided for a visual approach:

Again.. !! millions of thanks !! and let's hope you don't run into more problems...

Thanks so much for these fixes. I loved both Pharaoh and Zeus back in the day. Played them to death. It's great to be able to play them again.

Does anyone else have the problem in Pharaoh where when you go to the world map it stays in the bottom right corner of the screen on the main map?

Thanks too for posting the zip archive I was able to unpack the files and cleopatra seems to be working now as well.

So is anyone else getting the problem where after you've gone to the world map part of the world map shows up in the black area in the bottom right side of the main screen?

Or is it just me?

Is this normal?

Is there any one to fix it?

It's normal

It "should" be possible to fix if Jackfuste revisits the pharaoh/zeus fixes at some point. But it really isn't a critical issue - the game just isn't built to stretch out like that as you can easily tell from the "world" map and the mission screens.

But it beats having to play the game at 1024 ^^

New guy question... how do the Widescreen tweaks for games like Emperor get distributed?

I assume that the folks who work on the patches don't just distribute an edited .exe do they? Is it a file containing a script of hex edit locations to apply ourselves?

I suppose it solves the problem of "I followed your instructions (sort of) and it doesn't work!".

I presume that the version of the .exe will be something like Emperor (Sierra) 1.0.1.0 English with localised versions appearing at the modder's whim?

Pharaoh and Zeus uses the GOG (Good old Games) releases, which have had their copy protection removed and have the latest official patch. (So yeah that'd be 1.10)

As for emperor, I believe (hope really) that an unofficial copy protection removed executable is used as I don't have a DVD drive anymore.

Given how popular these City Builder games still are, I wonder if anyone has approached Overhaul Games to see if they could officially pick up the titles? They have just done Baldur's Gate and re-engineered it for modern monitors after all.

Doubtful - Given how hard it has been for GOG to even get two of four games on their store, I doubt it. The rights holders are a stubborn and greedy bunch.

It'd be much easier to just develop a new franchise from scratch.

Having had a look inside Emperor.exe myself with a hex editor, I have the greatest respect for folks like Jackfuste who can make these games jump through widescreen hoops!

I would have absolutely no idea how to identify the anchor points for the UI elements, let alone sorting issues like the World Map Scroll problem.

Hats off to you, guys!

Jackfuste - are you in the position of needing testers for any of the Emperor widescreen resolutions yet?

While I am 16:9 myself at 2560x1440, I would be more interested in playing the game slightly stretched, say at the 1080p level of zoom. Part of the charm of Emperor for me is the slightly chunky figures rather than pixel-sharp tiny ones.

Hello,

I am looking at the Caesar 3 exe file.
Jackfuste can you tell me what to do, where to look and what to change, to get desired results (Caesar 3 in widescreen)?

Thanks.

I registered so I could post this. I have the GOG version of Zeus/Poseidon. I have 1366x768 res and the option in the folder is 1360x768. I tried both version 1 and 2 of this. I placed the exe in the folder and put the contents of the data folder into the data folder of the installed game. The game launches but it's not in widescreen. It's still in the boxed 1024x768. What am i doing wrong?

Caesar 3 requires correction values in many places, and a new code to fix the interface. This is possible only using a debugger, you must examine the code to find resolution values and screen interface.
To learn how to use a debugger, I recommend to explore - http://ricardonarvaja.info/
These guides are specific to cracking programs, but they provide a good knowledge base that is needed to create a widescreen fixes.

Are you sure that game runs at resolution 1360x768?
Take a screenshot and look at it resolution.
If its 1360x768 resolution and you still have black bars, then check display scaling settings.
If its resolution 800x600, then in game menu select resolution 1024x768, it will be replaced on 1360x768.

I tried changing the resolution to 1024 and the screen just went black. I'll mess around with it more on my wifes computer as that's who I bought the game for anyway :) Am I doing it correct though? you add the contents of the data folder to the data folder and replace the exe?

Hello, first of all: Thanks a lot for your work on a widescreen solution for "Zeus and Poseidon" - one of my all time favorite games. It's great to be able to play this game widescreen! :-)

I own a monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1200 and I have a small problem with the graphics after installing your ws-workaround: There's a little black block on top of the screen (right side) - see screenshot.
BTW: This problem does not occur, if I install the 1680x1050 files. Strange... Another problem: The ambient sound get's corrupted: You can only hear several sound files from time to time after installing the patch-files.

Maybe you can solve this? It would be great! :-)

Game-Version: Zeus + Poseidon by Gog.com, Screen-Res: 1920x1200, Card: GTX 560, Drivers: Nvidia 301.42

(Yes, In-Game-Resolution was set to 1024x768 and all files were installed correctly...)

I will try to remake widescreen fix for Zeus and Poseidon and resolve interface problems.

Was about to ask about the possibility of a fix for Caesar 3 but I guess you already tried. Would be great if a fix for Caesar 3 was possible, its the game that started it, the line of Impressions' awesome 2D City Building series, too bad I guess but regardless thank you jackfuste so much for taking the time to work on the rest of the games in the series, when no one else would because its so old and not that popular like regular RTS games like AOE etc. Hats off to you. :twothumb

I've got a problem with displaying my native polish font. When I overwrite your .exe the resolution works fine, but I occur weird symbols such as %(@*#& etc. Looks like your resolution fix changes the Pharaoh_MM .eng format file. I made a backup and pasted it after your fix, still it changes a coding of the whole text. It's strange, because the Zeus fix works perfectly - even in polish. There's a screenshot with my issue below. And one more thing. I can't use your Cleopatra's fix, I guess you have a game 2in1 type with one .exe (Pharaoh.exe), right? I've got Cleopatra.exe, so it doesn't work. Any ideas? Cheers!

I just found this hoping i could find a fix for my pharaoh game, and I DID. First off i want to thank everyone who made that possible.

I did not know Emperor i just played zeus and pharaoh and loved them.

My hope is to wait for the widescreen fix for Emperor before i even try it.

Any news on that fix?

Thanks Jack for Emperor .. it's perfect.
On the Zeus fix.. I managed with the limited knowledge i have to change your 1920x1200 fix to suit mine resolution 1080p (changed 4 values). The thing is I don't like that light blue color (lower right corner).
I'm asking you: How do I remove it so I can get my workaround_fix to work in that corner (at what offset should i change the new values with the old ones) [OR] You said that you learned how to draw so can you draw my rectangle there?

Can anyone supply a mirror or re-upload of the Zeus/Poseidon exe? The drop box link results in a 509 error for max bandwidth consumption.

Massively appreciate the effort put into this, especially after so much time has passed since these games were released. I too would like to add my voice to those asking for Caesar 3 to be patched.

Also could I request a resolution? 1024x600 would be really useful for my netbook, then I can play at 1920x1200 at home and keep things going once I go out. Pharaoh or Emperor at 1024x600 would be really useful!

Many thanks!

Thank you so much for these releases!!! I was dreaming for years about such thing as HD resolution on those games... Sadly my favorite is... Caesar 3. Any chances to make patch for this one too? Or maybe you ould just explain me how exactly you are doing it (I've tried visiting your website, but Its in italian, so I dont understand anything)? Im a web developer, have good knowledge of php, mysql ect, but sadly no experience at all in software development. So anyway any chances you could help me with caesar 3 in any way?
THanks a lot!!!

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, but when I copy and replace both the exe and the data files, Emperor gets stuck on a black screen and I can't do anything on PC apart from long pressing the power button...

My laptop screen resolution is 1366x768 and I tried the 1360x768 file in the 7z archive.

Any tips? Thanks in advance!

Maybe you just upgrade to 2.1 - patches here.
If you need a fix exactly for version 2.0, then upload your Zeus.exe. Also, what resolution do you need?

Jack, thank you so much for your efforts in tweeking classic games to suit the modern computer resolutions!

however, what I can't seem to get around is Emperor's empire screen. everything is perfectly scaled to 1920 x 1080, but the empire screen (or diplomatic screen)'s options seems out of sync. the 8 options on the right hand side are off, the high-lighted/captioned options are not in line with the icons - nor do the icons open up the right diplomatic options.

you cannot believe how relieved I am that this forum is still opened and current!

Warmly looking forward to hearing from you mate!

Hi Jack, thanks again on replying so promptly!

It is not the save game files, it is EVERY map/campaign/random map etc. I've tried re-installing it last night, so I have no saved games. Upon testing every dynasty campaign, the errors are still there.

Here are the screen shots, for some reason the mouse icon is not there. But I will present them appearing from left to right (top row first) then left to right again (bottom row):

1366x768 resolution is not supported by the game. You can try 1360x768 - c3.exe (mirror link)

 Wow, thanks jackfuste! What you did here is borderline magic! I tried messing around with the .exe but wasn't even able to stretch the map. You got the backgrounds, the buttons to work and the screen to be at full resolution.

Along with the Sim City mess recently, you probably have just revived an almost lost genre. Keep up the good work, jackfuste and thank you.

I have two questions though.

There's the possibility of playing Caesar III on Android phones (see here: http://docs.winulator.com/program-caesariii). What are the game resolutions that could be supported by c3.exe? For example, my phone is 480 x 854.

This is nagging me since I failed at it. How did you get the playable area to full screen? I got all the menus and bars to 1360x768 with simple hex editing but could never get the actual map to work. Thanks!

I managed to make a 1920x1080 patch for Caesar III a couple weeks ago (after messing around for a while and slowly figuring out what I was doing), I figured some of you would probably be interested in it.

Image

Fun fact: I found what appears to be a bug in the original .exe, in the construction kit menu the map preview picture's vertical position was determined by the horizontal resolution instead of vertical resolution - not very obvious with the game's original resolutions but a major effect on widescreen.

I'll try and modify it for some other resolutions, let me know if there's one you're looking for.

Hey man! 1680 x 1050 would be amazing! I have such fond memories of this game, you'd really make my day.

Also - to any Win7 users - you might need to right click>run as admin to get it working.

Rock on! :rockout:

Hey there!
I have also an 1680x1050 monitor, and I also registered only for requesting an exe for this resolution, it would be amazing! I can even play in 800*600 with this game, I love Caesar III so much! I grew up on this game... Thank you for all your effort, maybe I'll consider a fullHD monitor purchasal :)
Thanks in advance,
Rudolfking

First thx to Jackfust for the incredible work.

The problems runs on Zeus with Posseion on a 2.1 version.
Now after I apply the fix to my resolution (i have both pcs, one in 1920x1080 and another 1280x1024) I cannot put in window mode anymore, only if I set the 800x600 resolution, or revert back to the original .exe and use a 1024x728 standard resolution.

Anyone have a fix for this, in Pharaoh I can put in window mode in all resolution, only in Zeus is impossible.

Thanks all.

Patch your Zeus.exe using this: Files available from https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files (search there)

then windowed mode should work.

Work perfectly, do you have this patch for Emperor?

And the ESET NOD32 and Windows Defender pointed a virus in the Zeus_windowed.exe, i thinks is a false positive but only to tell you about this.

That because patcher packed FSG. This is a false positive.

Hey - Very nice work on the widescreen patch! Any chance of a patch for 1024x600 resolution, would be awesome to run the game at the native resolution of my netbook.

Thanks :)

Kudos to you for what you've done so far nonetheless. Every game looks amazing.

Hey there! First, thanks to Jack! From the screenshots, looks amazing!

Sadly, I come with bad news =( I can't seem to execute the Zeus_windowed.exe file, and Zeus.exe from that Zeus.7z file won't change anything here.

I've got GoG's Acropolis (Zeus+Poseidon), but I don't know which version it is. I'm running Windows 8 64 bits. When I try to execute Zeus_windowed.exe, I get an error message that the application couldn't start correctly (0xc000007b).

If I open the .7z file, browse to the desired resolution, extract that to Zeus folder, overwriting everything it asks for, nothing changes too. Zeus starts fullscreen with low resolution, and if I window it, black borders until moving window a while. And window is the same size as the low resolution... Help?

Did you change resolution to 1024x768(Options - Display Options - 1024x768 Resolution) after applying widescreen fix? This is necessary because resolution 1024x768 changed to widescreen.
As for windowed patcher try this: Files available from https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files (search there)

Well, resolution change worked =)
But I still didn't manage to make Windowed work...
I should first move the files from the resolution I want, and then apply the windowed patch, correct?

The widescreen mod for emperor improves the game a lot, good work and thanks, but is anybody experiencing the same problem: if I want to play a random, open game in Emperor, I always get redirected to the main menue instead of starting a new map. I've got a special version of the game, which was distributed by a german game magazine 2004, which couldn't be easily patched without using a nocd.

Hi all, first of all I would like to thank Jackfuste for all these fantastic widescreen mods. But would be nice to also unlock the 1024x600 resolution, as it's a fair common resolution on netbooks, and these games are so light that they are ideal to play on such devices. I tried to make it myself with hex editor, but it was not an easy task and I gave up, lol. The mod from Juppiter89 for Zeus seems to work, I thank him too. But we need mods for the other games, expecially Emperor. Itrust in you, Jackfuste!

I'd also be interested in a 1024x600 "widescreen" version of Caesar III, Zeus, Pharaoh, and Emperor for netbooks! Since these games are older they would work perfectly on less powerful machines.

Not too mention fitting nicely onto most smartphones nowadays. With an emulator playing the games on a phone or tablet shouldn't be a problem. :twothumb:

c3 1920x1080

Fun fact: I found what appears to be a bug in the original .exe, in the construction kit menu the map preview picture's vertical position was determined by the horizontal resolution instead of vertical resolution - not very obvious with the game's original resolutions but a major effect on widescreen.

I'll try and modify it for some other resolutions, let me know if there's one you're looking for.

Having gotten into the game again I'd love the opportunity to play it with modern resolutions!

Hi I just registered on here to say thx to Jack for making some of the greatest games of all time playable on modern monitors. Im using all your widescreen patches for all these original city builders. I do however have one request which I have seen here once or twice and would like to add my voice to: if possible could you make Caesar 3 in 1600x900 that would just be icing on the cake with the rest of these. Cheers and thx in advance for this and all the great work you've done.

Yes. The method of doing it oneself would be appreciated, because I'd really like a 1366x768 version for my laptop.

Hello everyone. I am having trouble installing the widescreen patch for Zeus. Whenever I extract the 1680x1050 files to the Zeus gamefolder using 7zip, I'm getting numerous errors saying it cannot delete the output file. This includes the zeus.exe. I've also tried extracting other resolutions with the same results. Can anyone help with my problem?

I dug out my old Caesar 3 CD and installed, dropped the patched file in the install directory and ran it with no success... So I went to GOG, bought it there, tried again, and no success either. Tried running as administrator, tried running in compatibility mode for XP, tried renaming the files... nothing has worked. I'm super-excited to try this out, but has anyone had any similar experiences? The game runs just fine, it just doesn't run with the enhanced resolution.

Hah, turns out you have to set to 1024x768 for it to work. Makes sense, since he replaced values in the game, but I just assumed my game was running at the highest available already. Anyway, this is sweet!

Hi all,

First, thanks Jack for the amazing job you've done. It's pretty impressive to see that these good old games can be freshen up a little bit to be played in good conditions on our modern large screens. And your work at patching EXE is truly amazing.
Sadly, I have a bad new... I'm trying to play Zeus v2.1 (aka Poseidon patched) on 1920x1080. But your patched files don't work properly. Very probably because I have bought a localized (french) version of the game, with diacritics (ê, à, É, ï and so on...). So I have two choices:
    - either play the original legacy EXE, with the correct texts, but with a limited resolution of 1024x768;
    - or play with your version for 1920x1080. In that case, the resolution is correct, but the text is not good. All the letters with diacritics are not properly positioned (they are one line higher that their correct position) ; the long texts and paragraphs are truncated (because basically their start position is the same as for the english version, but the text itself if longer, ergo an issue ; and some of the panels are black (the date on the top right of the screen for example).

I tried to modify myself the file the same way you did, learning by doing some hexa-diffs between some couple of your files for various resolutions. I think I managed to grasp most of the modifications you did, but still there are also some kind of random modifications I just cannot understand...

So would it be possible for you either to directly patch and modify the EXE (see the link at the bottom of the post), or explain how you did to find where and what to modify (because simply replacing the couple of hexa values (0004, 0003) by (8007, 3804) at the right spots is not enough, apparently :-().

Thanks all!

It's for 1440x900, but I am wondering diacritics displayed correctly or not?

Hi Jack, and thanks a lot for trying :-).

I just tried to launch Zeus with your file. Sadly, it does not really changes anything :-( (excepted for the resolution, of course).
The letter with diacritics are still somehow one line higher that their correct position (see the screenshots). And the long text are still badly positioned (see for example the second screenshot, the 'Commencer le scénario' button). Plus, strangely, every letter 'à' is replaced by 'ò' (see for example in the first screenshot the bottom-left button).
The only good news is that the panel seems to bi fixed now (no longer black, neither with a strangely distorted texture)

I took some screenshots for you to see what I mean.

Hi everyone. I was searching something like Zeus HD edition or something, but didn't thought I not only find it for Zeus, but also for Pharoh and Emperor. I want to thank you, jackfuste. When I looking at the 1920x1080 screens, they looks just fabulous. A good 2D graphic is just immortal. I don't have a GOG version, but I decided to try your fix anyway. On the menus everything looked great, but when I start the game then I have similar problems (on 1360x768) like mario had, but in my case the side bar is set too much to the right.

Image

And when we go to the world map, we can clearly see that menu bar is moved too much to the right side and we can see that behind it is our city.

Image

I tried version1 and version2 from 7zip package for 1360x768 and on both I have the same problem. Jackfuste, is it possible to fix this (of course when you will be have time), or it is only on my version of game and I must live with it?

Once again thank you very much for what you did, you're great. When I once again will be plaing in Pharaoh or Emperor I will also try the rest of your fixes.

Thank you for your fast respnse :onethumb:

Okey I checked it and it fixed gradient on top bar and position of side bar, so now it looks great (both on city and world map). I see that you add a texture on the right side, but probably there was no other way. Overall everything is better now. I'm adding a screen how it looks now.

Image

Maybe it would be good to add it to main package of all fixes as a version3 for 1360x768?

Once again, thank you for your great work.

This file does work perfectly :-)! The screen resolution is correct and everything is fine (the diacritics are well-positioned, and the positions/lengths of various text are also correct).
Thank you so much! Zeus is definitely a great game, I think, and it's really enjoyable to be able to play it correctly with a modern resolution.

One more once, thanks Jack!

Out of curiosity, what softwares do you use to determine which hexa values to change? I mean it's pretty easy to spot where the bytes encoding the resolution are, and how to change them, but some other bytes needs to be changed. Would you explain how to do that? How to determine which bytes to change, and what should be their updated value?
For example, do you simply use an hexa-editor (or hexa-diff), or do you also use a disassembler or a decompiler?

I think its really awesome that you've gone thru so much trouble to modify these executables for everyone to get the game more enjoyable for them. My monitor resolution is 1600x900, and I know that yo already posted a modified .exe for Caesar III, and I did download it, but when using it The Game crashes right after the selection menu as it is loading the map and UI. I've tested it on 3 separate systems running XP, Windows 7, and Windows 8 with the same results. Do you have any idea why this is happening? I haven't noticed anyone else complaining about it, so I'm assuming it's just me.

Thank you!

This didn't seem to post the last time I tried.

I'm having the same issue as jedpaull with the 1600x900 .exe file. The game starts in non widescreen resolution and when I try to change the resolution to it's highest setting, the screen goes black and the game crashes. Any help would be appreciated.

Would You mind telling us how You did all of this?
How much work was it with Zeus comparing to other games?
What editors do You use?
How did You managed to fix the interface?

Hey guys ...

im having some difficulties with my laptop running win 7 32bit (1366x768). I've tried both my CD Zeus and GOG version and both have failed to display 1360x768 in fullscreen, when i go back to windowed it works just fine, both versions do but none does on fullscreen.

If anybody had the same issues and knows how to reslove them i whould be very very grateful becouse i waited three years for a fix like this.

Hi, when I try to load the c3 - 1920x1080.exe it comes up with an error.

"The program can't start because smackw32.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

I brought the game from GOG.

Thankyou.

I'm going to echo gipawu's request. I recently installed Pharaoh from GOG on my netbook and would greatly appreciate a 1024x600 resolution. This game is great for passing the time when I'm away from home.

Jackfuste,
I was on my way to patch Polish version of Emperor, however, I have found some problems that make it slightly harder than I was expecting.

In original (1024x768) version there is following hex stream:
Quote:
0013b440 18 e8 2a ae 07 00 a1 20 8e 3f 01 85 c0 75 0c 6a

in your 1280x1024 hex this line is changed into:
Quote:
0013b440 18 e9 59 d8 26 00 a1 20 8e 3f 01 85 c0 75 0c 6a

I believe this is call to this hex stream:
Quote:
003a8c80 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 cc

003a8d80 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

and I would really place it on same place, but instead of NULLs, Polish version have some character table. If I overwrite this character table, polish chars are displayed wrong way. I tried to put this block 200h further in .text, but I couldn't calculate offset properly. What should I change in 0013b440h ? default version produce glitches, while any other value produces fault on map load (I found it is for sidebar drawing)

@jackfuste, thank you for the 1600x900 c3.exe. Any chance for a triple custom resolution hack? I would like three custom resolutions, 1600x900, 1600x1200 and 1600x2100 "vertical twin display". I figured all those could replace the default three resolution settings in a single .exe. Alternatively, could you please make two single hacks: 1600x1200 and 1600x2100?

Thank you very much!

Igor

Hi, new to this forum, wanted to replay those classic city building games(including 1 that I never played before) and looking for this widescreen patches for the standard English version of the games.

1. Anyone can point me to a page with the latest widescreen patches for Caesar 3 and Zeus (and its expansion) for multiple resolutions?
If none exist, can someone be kind enough to upload a rar/7z/zip ?
Looking at the thread, got abit confused with all the different exes (including different languages...)

2. Are the patches for these games in the "Solutions & Issues" section of the games below the latest version?
http://www.wsgf.org/dr/emperor-rise-middle-kingdom/en
http://www.wsgf.org/dr/pharaoh/en
http://www.wsgf.org/dr/cleopatra-queen-nile/en

If not can someone upload a newer compiled version just like above?

3. These patches work with the latest version of the game downloaded from GoG right? Planning to make a repurchase, need to be sure.

4. For games with expansion, you need exe(s) for both original and expansion right? Had been quite sometime I played, forgot whether both needed to play everything or just the expansion exe to experience everything, like newer games do.

Thanks.

Hello,

New to the site and new to trying to get old games to "HD". I am just bought Caesar 3, Zeus + Posiden, and Cleopatra from GOG. I am curious to how to actually make my game HD? I keep seeing links within the threads but no instructions to how to make them work. I attempted to look around the site but got so lost it wasn't funny. Any help will be welcomed.

Hi everyone,

First of all thanks a lot for this amazing site.

I'm unable to download the Zeus patch (link removed) : the file that I download is not the right size (not 177 MB) and is not recognized by 7zip.

Could somebody please reupload it?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I tried out the widescreen fix for Zeus + Poseidon (Acropolis) from GOG for 1920x1080 and it works very well except for some visual anomalies. I downloaded your updated Zeus + Poseidon fix that "fixed incorrect texture mapping" but some parts of my interface is looking misplaced such as the bottom right. I'm not sure if I just messed up somewhere but hopefully there is a fix for this minor issue?

Hey.

First off, thank you sooooo much for doing all this work. It's incredible.

I have one little problem.

I'm using a Mac I originally downloaded the .7z file you have supplied on this forum, but with no luck.

I've been able to run Zeus + Pos on my iMac at 1920x1080 resolution. I had to download the link from this forum

http://www.reddit.com/r/impressionsgame ... idescreen/ (see 3rd post)

In that link there was a Zeus.exe file, DATA file with images + a mss32.dll file. On the forum I was able to download an updated 1920x1080 DATA files to make the experience pretty much perfect.

I am now trying to run the game on an MacAir with a resolution of 1360x768. The problem I have is when I download the 7z file from this forum, it included a DATA folder but no .exe or .dll.

I used the same .exe and .dll file I downloaded from the reddit forum but replacing the DATA file with the 1360x768 with zero luck.
I keep all original .exe and .dll file and JUST replace the DATA file and, again, no luck.
I've tried just replacing the .exe and keeping the original .dll, with no luck, and I've tricked replacing the .dll file and keeping the original .exe file but with no luck

I am wondering if I've missed something, am I doing something wrong or downloading the wrong link?

Thanks for the help.

I'm trying to run Zeus and Poseidon on my laptop with the 1920x1080 resolution, however whenever I change the display settings in game it takes away my right sidebar, and inevitably locks up (and I am forced to crash it) when I click on any of the menu settings.
Here's a pic example of what I mean when I say my sidebar is completely gone when I change resolutions:

Is there any way to fix this? / am I retarded and installing it incorrectly?

Hello,

I was looking for a patch that would give access to "modern" resolutions, and here I am, stumbling on your site, that is just perfect!

I have the French Pharaoh Gold v2.1 original version (not GOG's), and I have the same kind of problem than MadPianist, as described here, ie raised diacritics.

Would it please be possible to fix this in 1920x1080?

The English patch seems to work (I didn't really play yet, actually I didn't play for a long time…), but it would be nice to see this diacritics problem solved as well, that would be fantastic  !

Many thanks in advance.

The game doesn't show charachters such as à è ì ò ù properly.

Dear Jackfuste, your 1920x1080 fix for Cleopatra/Pharaoh is amazing, simply amazing!

Just a little question: is it possible to fix the .exe in order to keep the overseer panel background image (the royal chamber, you know) in the center of the screen and not in the upper-left corner? And what about the black zone in the lower right zone of the screen, under the control panel? Iìm playing Emperor: RotMK and CaesarIII with your 1920x1080 fix and those are perfect: is it possible to achieve something similar?

Anyway, thanks in advance and keep up the good work!

I tried the 1360x768 on the GoG-version of the game my 1366x768 laptop and the exe runs, but upon selecting the 1024x768 option which is supposed to give me widescreen, the screen simply goes black.

Only the mouse cursor is rendered (it can be moved throughout the whole 1360x768 area of blackness for a second).

Then the game resets to previous resolution but stays black until I kill it by pressing escape.

I suspect an issue with admin rights etc. I tried to move around the folder and messing with the compatibility settings and windowed but to no avail (can only get to see a little "piece" of the high res in windowed mode, but once I go fullscreen itgoes black again.

PLS people help!

Has anyone else got an issue with Zeus where clicking on the world map crashes the game?

I'm using the files from dropbox, and it works fine apart from a straight crash to desktop whenever I click the world map. I'm hesitant to use the files linked here because they are massive (170mb +), and both chrome and firefox go nuts and identify them as virus's / trojans when they are downloaded. Anyone any advice?

Thanks!

I've got a problem with Zeus & Poseidon. Every letter Ä is turned into a N with ~ on top. And the letters Ä, ä, Ö, ö, Ü, ü and ß are a bit higher than the others.
I need a fix for German fonts.
Example: Oberhäupter turns to Oberhnpter
Vorräte turns to Vorrnte
Version v.2.1.4.0 Image
screen solution 1920x1080p

Many thanks in advance.

Hi
I joined this forum for exactly the same reason
Can someone upload a widescreen fix for 1920*1200 for Zeus+Poseidon?

Every link I found is dead and I went through the entire thread.
Why don't you upload it to the games database? Would be easier...
Thanks

Dear jackfuste, I just registered on here to say thanks. Thanks for the great work you did. It's really amazing!!!

Just a little question: I am playing Zeus&Poseidon in 1280x720. The game works perfect but there is a small blackground area in the bottom right corner. Is it only on my version of game and I must live with it?

Once again thank you very much for what you did!!!

I just installed Zeus and Poseidon after buying it in a GOG sale. I then downloaded the 1920x1080 widescreen fix and started playing. Everything seemed fine until I tried clicking the "view world" button on the bottom-right of the interface. That caused the game to crash. I repeated it a couple of times to make sure it wasn't a one-off.

Edit: I figured it out. The problem was that I had downloaded the modified Zeus.exe from a .7z archive that didn't contain the DATA folder. The game was trying to access missing assets. Never mind.

Because the one here seem to not be working.

The game is just "not responding" when I start it.

Could I get some pointers?

Hey,
I tried to play c3 on win 10 and had big problems to play it in the resolution 1920x1080.exe, because there were heavy sound. If you want to play the game, the sound loops every 5 seconds. I read about this issue on gog.com too. After hours of trial and error i solved the problem with a virtualmachine win 7 in Vmware (the only programm that supports native resolutions). There you can play in full hd (or other resolutions which you can find here) and play it with no sound issue´s^^

It was my dearest intension to tell this to all c3 fans :D

P.s.Thanks a lot, to the guys who made it possible to play in widescreen-resolution

yours sincerely,

janmorice

Hello everyone,

I made a patch so Caesar III will work at 2560x1440 (that's the resolution of my monitor).

Known bugs:
- When querying a tile, the query window always appears on the upper left corner;
- The trade map is buggy (the world location doesn't match the cities), but it works;

I would be glad if someone could help me fix those bugs.

On a side note, the game still works on Win10, but requires WinXP SP3 Compatibility mode as well as 16-bit color mode.
If the message "Loading sounds..." gets sticky, simply press "Exit" on the main menu and then answer "No" to the dialog box. The "Loading sounds" message should then disappear.

1366x768 resolution is not supported by the game. You can try 1360x768 - c3.exe (mirror link)

I have tried the 1360x768 on my main laptop - and both that and the 1920x1080 work correctly (thank you so much!), but my tablet does not support any sizes other than exactly 1366x768. So 1360x768 doesn't display anything. I tried changing any references to 1360 to 1366 to see if that would be enough, but it screws it up (not sure of the name of what happens, but everything goes very diagonal), so I don't know what other changes would be needed to sync it, or whether it's possible.

Basically, is there any way of having a 1366x768 version?

Hi dear Jackfuste, there are some visual glitch in the French version of Pharaoh Gold due to different text length and accended characteres.
It will be awesome if you can make a 1920x1080 and 1366x768 specific version.

Greats Thanks in advance.

In the meantime, why not try gaming in borderless? It may spread proper where fullscreen fails (no guarantees).
1. Get game windowed.
2. Use Borderless Gaming (BG) to spread the game full, whatever width/height you want (your fullscreen values).

Download BG: https://github.com/Codeusa/Borderless-Gaming/releases

I like the idea - but unfortunately, if I set Caesar III to windowed mode, it works until I close it (and BG appears to work fine too). But once I close and reopen it, there is a visual glitch making it unusable. This keeps happening until I set it back to full screen. So I can't really do that every time I want to play unfortunately.

wtfhits: Right-click the exe, select properties, compatibility mode, run in 16-bit color mode.

Also, if you have sound issues, try downloading and installing IndirectSound (google it, it's the first result).

You sir, are a legend! BG + 16-bit mode (+ the modified c3.exe for 1360x768) means I can finally play full screen on my tablet.

Now I just need to figure out the settings used in each case so I can use 1920x1080 on one, and that setup on the other... (I keep the game on an SD card so I can switch between them). But that should be easy enough.

Hello everyone.

After having finished Caesar III, I wanted to play Pharaoh.

However, jackfuste's widescreen patch for the english version of Cleopatra was rather outdated and didn't fully fix the UI.

So, based on the Russian version of jackfuste's fix (which didn't have any black areas), I ported the changes to the English version.

However, the UI still had some bugs: the collapsed bar didn't work at all (not to mention the dragging animation, which didn't work at all), the background image in the mission display and advisor window wasn't centered, and popup menus (the ones that appear when you right-click a building) were showing up at the top left corner.

Adding to that, changing the resolution was incredibly difficult, requiring one to change lots of code to add textures where there were none, so there would be no black areas.

So I decided to kill two birds with one stone: entirely fix the UI, and allow the game to support custom resolutions, by dynamically adding the needed textures.

This is the result:

Image

Link to the exe (1920x1080 resolution): Pharaoh.exe

Missing feature:

- The "special orders" submenu of the Bazaar, Granary and Storage Yard always shows up at the top of the screen. Unfortunately changing the position of the window is too much of a hassle right now, as all its contents need to be manually changed. I have yet to figure where all the contents are located (including mouse click positions!!)

How to change the custom resolution:

Image

Download Pharaoh Resizer (Souce code)

1. Set Horizontal Resolution
2. Set Vertical Resolution
3. Save the file to the game's main directory
4. Open the game using the new file
5. Enjoy!

If the resizer complains about missing DLL's, please download the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015

Some words of warning: First note that due to the way the game is coded, the horizontal resolution must be a multiple of 4, otherwise graphics will appear garbled. That's why a resolution of 1366x768 will not work, since 1366 is not a multiple of 4.
Also, this only works for the Pharaoh + Cleopatra version. For the standalone Pharaoh install, use the old files provided by jackfuste.

If you want to manually change the resolution, you'll need an hex editor. If you don't know what that is, or don't know what little-endianess means, this may not be for you. In that case, use PharaohResizer.

1. Open the Pharaoh.exe I uploaded with the hex editor.
2. Go to offset 0xcfa0a. Change the horizontal resolution (4 bytes, default 0x780 or 80 07 00 00).
3. Go to offset 0xcfa0f. Change the vertical resolution (4 bytes, default 0x438 or 38 04 00 00).
4. Go to offset 0xcfda3. Change the horizontal resolution (4 bytes, default 0x780 or 80 07 00 00).
5. Go to offset 0xcfdad. Change the vertical resolution (4 bytes, default 0x438 or 38 04 00 00).
6. Save the changed exe.
7. Enjoy the game!

Any questions, bugs, problems, etc, please feel free to ask.

Any help finding the missing values for the "special orders" menu will also be very welcome!

A big hug to both you and jackfuste, thank you guys for the great work of making this great vintage game fits modern resolution again.

And with your permission, I would like to transfer the "resizer" to a Chinese forum to share with them. We have some hardcore fans here who would definitely love to use it.

Hello!

Feel free to share the resizer and to translate it if you want to! The source code is available for that.

Hi! What am I doing wrong? Bought the game on gog, installed it and replaced the exe file with the new. I'm not good with these things. Dying to play in 1920x1080. Help me.
Thanks before hand.

Edit: I use win 10, the regular works just fine

Hello,

What is the actual problem you're having?

The hack I created is fully compatible with the GOG version of Pharaoh.

Make sure you set the game resolution to 1024x768 in the "Display options" menu. 1024x768 is actually 1920x1080 in the changed exe ;)

Also, make sure you open the right executable file. You should open the "Pharaoh - 1920x1080.exe" file, not the standard "Pharaoh.exe" file!

My problem was that nothing was happening, did not realise I had to change in the display option. Expected it to be 1080 right out the gate. Feel so silly, but thanks a lot. Looks amazing!

Hi ! Thanks a lot for the update, crudelios. The new Pharaoh.exe works like a charm !

Just a small request : your exe works really well with the French Gold Edition, except for the accented letters, which are unaligned with the other letters. Chuck Boris and Olibrius wrote about that and MadPianist had the same problem (now corrected) with Zeus. Is there a way to easily fix that ?

Thanks again ! :onethumb:

Hello!

I don't really know if the problem is easy to fix, if the French exe's internal file structure is similar to the English version, it should be trivial to change it.

If not, it's still very possible to change the exe, just not as simple/fast to do.

In either case, can you please upload the french exe so I can have a look at it?

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I thought Chuck Boris' link was still up.

I've toyed with a lot of .exe from this topic but I think that's the original french Pharaoh Gold exe. I'm hoping to play in 1920x1080.

Thanks !

Humm this is very strange, the exe you sent me is exactly the same as the one I used to make the changes to the game, so it should work without any issues.

Can you please send me a screenshot of the problem you're having?

Here's some screenshots of the issue.

é, ô, à and others accented letters are weirdly higher that the others.

I've tested a little and I've noticed that the issue occurs even without the widescreen exe. There's no problem with Pharaoh alone (I also have a CD vanilla version), but when I install the Gold Edition (i.e. with Cleopatra), the letters are messed up.

It that case it makes sense that it doesn't work, you're using the English exe and not the French one! I have no idea why the game installed an English exe for the French version.

Anyway, if you manage to obtain the French exe, test it out to see if it works at the original resolution. If you upload it here, I'll then try to make it work at 1080p res!

Ok, you were right : the exe I uploaded was an english exe. I don't know why. So, I've made a clean install from my french CDs : first, Pharaoh + patch 1.1 then Cleopatra + patch 2.1.

So here's the Cleopatra french exe :

BUT... there's a problem with Windows 10. This exe won't run, even in compatibility mode. In version 2.0, the following error appears. In version 2.1, there isn't any message, the game just doesn't start.

So my question is : does anyone know what's the difference between CD exe and digital exe and why, for exemple, the GoG version run without problem ? If so, is it possible to modify my french exe to apply the widescren patch AND the Windows 10 "compatibilty patch" from GoG ?

Thanks again.

Is that the original french 2.1 exe? Try this one instead: (link removed)

If it doesn't work at first, try setting the compatibility mode to Windows 2000.

Can't be more original : french CDs and french patch for Pharaoh and Cleopatra. :)

With your new exe, the game's now launching but crashes every time I start a map/mission. I can go through the menus and the missions' briefings but when I click "Go to the city", it crashes.
Same issue with every compatibility mode available in Windows 10 (Win 2000 compatibility is no more available in Win 10, there's just Win 98/ME).

Yeah ! Thanks, this one is working for me : no crash, no compatibility mode required and no issue with accented letters ! If crudelios can make a 1920x1080 version of this exe, I'm a happy man ! :D

What's your french Pharaoh edition ? CD, digital, Gold Edition ?

Just a heads up, the french version of the widescreen patch is coming along nicely and should be ready in the next few days.

As it will also support custom resolutions (up to 8k), I can create a french version of the resizer.

Chuck Boris or Loretta, would you be interested in helping me translate the Pharaoh Resizer to french? It's a rather small translation, I'd place the phrases that need translating here and you would translate them to french for me.

Thanks!

Please check for bugs or crashes!

The text for the translation will be coming up soon, thanks for the help!

Hi, thank you so much for working on a resolution fix for this game. It's hugely appreciated!

Unfortunately it doesn't work for me. The game does switch resolution, but it seems to try to switch to resolution higher than 1080p. Large portions of the screen on the right and bottom are cut off (the right control panel is completely gone), everything is shifted bottom right and visible mouse position doesn't match actual position (for example, the "do you want to keep this resolution" popup appears on the bottom-right instead of the middle, but to hit the OK button I have to click in the middle of the screen, where the button should have been)

I have windows 8.1 64-bit and the GOG edition of the game (with expansion, version 2.1). And, just to be 100% clear, I am completely sure I am using the 1080p version of the fix and my monitor is 1080p.

Edit: Ah, I figured it out! My DPI is set to 125%, and it was breaking the game. After ticking "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" in properties of the .exe it works perfectly!

First, thank you Jackfuste and Crudelios for the work you've done to make widescreen work on these games.

I do have a question: How possible would it be to make Crudelios' Pharaoh resizer work with the other three city building games?
I imagine that Caesar 3 would require the same amount of work as Pharaoh whereas Zeus and Emperor would require a lot more effort due to the art assets that need to be recreated.

Hello everyone,

I have been using jackfuste's widescreen fix for Zeus: Masters of Olympus. It has all been working excellent and I experience no problems while playing the game. However, currently I am trying to create my first adventure. The problem I experience arises when I try to edit the World Map. Jackfuste's widescreen fix included several resized world maps, which you can select in the World Map editing window. When I try to place a city, it is not possible to place this city outside the old resolution window (roughly the red square in the picture below). This means making a decent World Map is pretty much impossible. Does anyone know if there is a workaround for this?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Crudelios,

Ive downloaded the VCRedist 2015 and tried to use the resizer, it doesnt work. Still asks for the DLL file, so ive copied that from WinDIR to the same folder as the resizer (Pharoah Directory) and have tried to run it and i get an error: App Error: 0xc000007b

Using Win8.1 x64 and have tried with Win7 compatibility and still no luck. Also tried Admin Rights. Nope.

Im trying to change it to 2560 x 1080 for 21:9.

Also tried using a Hex Editor to modify but I cant find the values you referenced. *tried with wxHexEditor and Went to Offset 0xcfa0a but it didnt really make any sense to me so i left it.

Will try on a Win7 machine, but at present its having problems doing the Windows updates.

CopiousDelusionSandwich don't forget to install the x86 version of the redist as the x64 version will not work!

Hello everyone!

Time for a new version of the Pharaoh Resizer!

Improvements:

- Massive changes to the empire map. The map isn't duplicated on large resolutions as it was before, and doesn't crash at 4k resolution. See attached screenshot for details (1440p original image).
- Fixed a small bug at the bottom of the screen at certain resolutions.
- Added automatic resolution detection to Pharaoh Resizer. By default, the values will reflect the primary monitor's resolution.

Link to download: http://public.josecadete.net/PharaohResizer.exe

Image
The new empire map at 1440p.

Image
Pharaoh in glorious 4k! Not too practical to play, though.

I'm having issues getting this game to load. I have tried to mess with all the compatibility options. The game acts as if it will load then get an error message.

C3.exe has stopped working
If you could please help it would be appreciated.

Does the original exe give you troube as well or does it load up fine?

Now that I think about it, I think I had similar problems with one of the 1080p exe's that was available in this forum. Which resolution are you trying to run on?

The original was not working either. In fact after I bought it off steam I had to rename it to an executable file. It had some other extension that would not open. So I changed the extension to .exe, and it started giving me this issue. I even tried uninstalling the program with revouninstaller, and reinstalled it, I believe twice now. Still not working I tried changing the resolution of my computer to the recommended settings given in this forum, and still no go. It just keeps crashing.

That doesn't seem to be a problem with the modified exe, but with the installation itself.

But anyway, what was the original extension of the executable? And what about its filesize?

Hey crudelios, thanks and kudos for the PharaohResizer. Works perfectly!

Wondering if you've made similar Resizers for the rest of the Impressions city builder games like Caesar III, Zeus+Poseidon and Emperor ROTMK?

Not that Jackfuste's fixes doesn't work but your's addresses some of the UI glitches as well.

crudelios, thanks for making that resizer. It is really good.

But, we also would like one for caesar 3, zeus and emperor, since you already know how to do it.
I like how the UI and the map screen is centered on yours. No other widescreen patch does that on other games.

Check out this 1600x900 resolution for caesar 3, it does not work for me. crashes on menu.

No problem. If you do try your hand at those games I'd personally recommend Zeus/Poseidon. In my opinion its the best of Impression's city builders.

Try this. Replace the original c3.exe if you've made a backup or if you haven't just download a normal No CD exe and then go into the game and set the resolution to 1024x768, save the game and exit. Then replace it with the resolution fixed exe and it should work fine.

Hope this helps.

That does not work. Has anyone gotten caesar 3 on 1600x900 to work?

I have and I am running it on 1600x900 right now.

You could try another thing, try running the Caesar 3 Map Editor (c3_mapper.exe) and set the resolution to 1024x768 from in there then exit and try running the main game.

I could also attach the 1600x900 executable I'm using, dled it from this thread, not sure which one but it works fine.

Hello there everyone,

I'm having severe issues with the fixes for Pharoa and Cleopatra. Basically I've followed the instructions specified, however, when I go to change the resolution the game crashes. Sometimes it even forces my entire computer to crash prompting me to restart it. I've tried all manner of different launch settings, changing from the 1920-1080 file to 1600-900 and so on but nothing seems to work. It just crashes constantly, either I get stuck on the black start screen or whenever I change resolution it goes kaputt. All I get is this tiiiiny little window up in the left corner of my screen and it stops working.

Am I doing it wrong? What are the exact settings to use to make this work? Are you supposed to change the resolution in-game or no? Thanks for any help you can provide, I desperately want to make this work... I mean... so much nostaliga, I have to have it! Haha.

You have to set it to the highest resolution the game offers from the game menu. Then quit and use this file to make a 1920x1080 resolution and replace
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/154 ... esizer.exe

hope it works.

Hi guys,

I got the 1920x1080 patch for Caesar III and it doesn't seem to work.... it just moves the screen to be fullscreen, and it puts the things that are supposed to be in the center are almost in the lower right-hand corner. I am using windows 10. Can anyone help me? I put a screenshot of what I see. if I try to put it to 1280x720 resolution without the patch it makes the screen dark, keep the old resolution, just a small part shows of the old resolution, and the desktop shows, then if I click from the taskbar Caesar III it takes me to the normal screen

EDIT:: Heh I'm dumb, didn't realize resizer makes the file

Thank you all for your widescreen fixes  It's seriously a pleasure to look at xD
I'm having trouble with the following though:

crudelios wrote:

I get a missing dll msg for qpi-ms-win-crt-stdio-l1-1-o.dll when I try to run the new resizer. I tried installing C++ 2015 x84 and x64 but both failed to install on my computer.

But I also can't find a working widescreen Pharaoh.exe to download either so I might just be missing that? I'm assuming you should have that first to make it work but I'm not sure :eh: User above answered this one xD Just having problem with dll..

Here is the modded 1080p file:

http://public.zepedro.homenet.org/Pharaoh.exe

I've also updated the link in the original post, so it's easier for everyone to get it.

Also, if anyone with assembly skills is interested, there are still some things I would like to improve but I don't have the time right now. For example, I would like to add the possibility of adding custom resolutions to the game's Display Options settings.

Can you modify that exe to run in 3840x2160? 1080p work nice but in 4k would be better .

Thanks! :savews:

Zeus Ultrawide 2560x1080p Fix
With notepad and a hex editor, two days of comparing files, a lot of crashes, rage quitting and almost giving up a few times I think I made it work. Hope it works for you too.

Thank you to everyone here for their work.

Currently running VBox in a full screen at 1360 x 768 res. C3 works well as is, but the patches created odd effects as some other users have experienced. The mouse location is reported in lower locations than it is, so clicking on menus requires a bit of imagination. See the off positioned

Even if I save 1024 x 768 and exit, and reload saved, upon reload the display setting is back at 640 x 480. Any help would be appreciated.

------- After doing more testing, it seems after setting display to 1024 x 768, saving and exiting the game. When I then go to load the patch, it gets visually stuck at the Loading Sounds.... screen. I can hear everything else loading in the background which I can click through. I am forced to exit.

------- When loading the patch again, it defaults the resolution back to 640 x 480.

First of all thank you a million times for your contribution to Pharaoh (and congratulations).
Now I would kindly ask you if you can do the same for Zeus, Emperor, Caesar III, a Zeus_resizer, CaesarIII_resizer and Emperor_resizer. Otherwise, can you create or tell me how to make .exe for 3440x1440 (21: 9) and 2560x1080 (21: 9) resolution?

Thanks a lot for your help, soon.

Hello to all,

As Alpha writes in the previous post, I also have a 21: 9 3440x1440 or 2560x1080.
Can you help me get .exe with this resolution? Especially for Caesar III, Zeus and Emperor? Currently I see them all distorted. I also have problems with diacritics.
Please help me, thank you very much.
Greetings.

So I saw Cleopatra on the Steam store and was feeling nostalgic and bought it. But its unplayable. The game only lets me see the top left 1/4 of the screen. I read the comments on Steam which led me to this helpful thread. But after trying every resize option I could think of, and playing with my computer's resolution settings nothing has fixed it. I am running Windows 8.1 Pro and using a 4K monitor 4096 x 2160, but even if I take my monitor down to 1028 x 768 it still only shows the top left 1/4 of the game. The funny thing is I can click the buttons on the main menu where they should be, and that works.

Hello CarmelAppleEmp, try to use this https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/15465721/PharaohResizer.exe and set a higher resolution. Depends on the size of your monitor, but if it is not huge try a 2k.
Just start the executable, choose the resolution, start pharaoh, choose the resolution 1024x768 and the game change with the one you have chose.
Good day.

Download Pharaoh Resizer (Souce code)

1. Set Horizontal Resolution
2. Set Vertical Resolution
3. Save the file to the game's main directory
4. Open the game using the new file
5. Enjoy!

If the resizer complains about missing DLL's, please download the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015

Hi POMAD, there is this modified executable that allows you to play higher resolutions.
Just follow the guide, however, you have to replace the .exe of the resolution you choose, enter the game and select the maximum resolution (1024x768) and automatically change it with your chosen one.

Hi crudelios! I'm glad to see that there is a real community of Pharaoh!

I'm trying to put my Pharaoh resolution to 1920x1080 but it doesn't work.

I downloaded the jack's version of .exe in 1920x1080 but it doesn't work so I tried to download you resizer but your link is dead!

Could you please send a link that works?

Thank you!

Can someone make the 1440x1080 resolution for all these city builder games?

It is not a widescreen resolution. It has the 4:3 aspect ratio.

Due to the amount of changes needed and the lack of time available, unfortunately I doubt I'll be updating the French version any time soon.

However if anyone has a good grasp of programming and assembly (or the will to learn) and wishes to know how to edit the files I can try and teach how edit the files!

Hi Crudelios. I just want to say that the 1600x900 resolution for Caesar 3 does not work.

I made a forum post about it here http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.ph ... 4&p=168185

Can you fix it?

Hey so I've put hours into getting this running and still no dice. I think I am close though.

I'm running a windows 10 virtual machine. I have a pharaoh and cleopatra installer from gog which works. I then replace the executable with the resizer one and the game loads. When I actually go to switch screen sizes in the in game menu it blacks out and then crashes. Has anyone experienced this? Is this possibly related to the GOG version of this game not being compatible? If so does anyone have a source for pharaoh game files which will work with this??

Any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated. Really excited to get this running after not having played for 15 years

Edit: Somehow after a couple tries it just started working first. I switched to one of the other resolutions first and then to the largest which threw it into full screen. And now I can't get it to work again but I definitely saw it work once.... Anyone else get the blackouts?

The executable is fully compatible with the gog version, as a matter of fact the only difference between both versions is the link to gog.com in the main menu.

Try disabling hardware acceleration in the VM, it might help! You could also try using Wine (if on linux)...

I downloaded the resizer and tried to set it to 1364x768 (since 1366, my actual screen width, isn't an option), but when I click the option in-game to set it to this size it just blackscreens. Still has music and sound effects, and I can see my mouse, and can apparently click on menus (it makes the same sound as it does when I click them open before trying to change the size) but I can't actually see anything so it's unplayable.

Found this in youtube comments, and it worked for me too.

Quote:
Black screen error fixed! I have a 1366x768 monitor, and I was getting black screen errors when ever I tried to load the full screen resizer mod for Pharaoh at 1364x768 (not 1366 because the horizontal resolution must be a a multiple of 4). Then I changed my screen resolution to 1360x768 and replace the Pharaoh.exe file with the resizer file to match that resolution. Now the mod works perfectly!
It seems the resizer file must match the screen resolution perfectly to work.

Hello,
First of all, massive thanks to all experts who created patches for these games, specially Jackfuste for Zeus! I went through the whole topic! :onethumb:

I have a request as a member of ZEUS french community :
On page 20 (link), Jackfuste solves a diacritics/accent issue using user MadPianist's specific exe file --> Would you have time & resources to apply that diacritics correction to Jackfuste's very own exe files ? And specifically Jackfuste's 1920x1080 version whose last version is on page 25 (link).
The reason why we'd rather use Jackfuste's files is that they work perfectly for us (except french accents) and MadPianist's file requires a CD to be inserted :(

That would be soo nice !

EDIT - as first post of 2018 I wish everyone a happy new year!

Hi all,

I recently grabbed the classic game (Pharaoh) on steam (in 2018) and quickly got sick of the original resolution.
I eventually made my way here and followed all the instructions but i was still having some resolution issues. See below

Image

Basically, something was going funny and the mouse didnt line up with where the game was registering it as being so was really difficult to click the buttons. (Plus the whole right toolbox was missing)

The fix: (after an hour or so of messing around)
Basically find the .exe and making the following changes (im using win10)

Image

Hope this helps and maybe fixes some of your issues.

Cheers

Hi there. Can someone upload again the whole exe's for Caesar 3, Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom and Zeus: Master of Olympus + Poseidon: Master of Atlantis at the 2560x1440p because all the links from the posts are gone (deleted). Thank You.

Hello everyone,

I made a patch so Caesar III will work at 2560x1440 (that's the resolution of my monitor).

Known bugs:
- When querying a tile, the query window always appears on the upper left corner;
- The trade map is buggy (the world location doesn't match the cities), but it works;

I would be glad if someone could help me fix those bugs.

Link to file: c3.exe

On a side note, the game still works on Win10, but requires WinXP SP3 Compatibility mode as well as 16-bit color mode.
If the message "Loading sounds..." gets sticky, simply press "Exit" on the main menu and then answer "No" to the dialog box. The "Loading sounds" message should then disappear.

Hi crudelios, have you made any progress since? The link is dead, and I haven't been able to find any other 2560x1440 .exe for Caesar.

If there's no fully functional 2560x1440 fix, I'll be glad to start working on one. It'll be great if you can reupload it so I pick up from where you left off.

All the widescreen fixes are mirrored and uploaded onto moddb.

Emperor: http://www.moddb.com/mods/emperor-full- ... hd-support
Zeus and Poseidon - http://www.moddb.com/mods/zeus-and-pose ... resolution
Pharaoh - http://www.moddb.com/mods/pharaoh-resiz ... resolution
Caesar III - http://www.moddb.com/mods/caesar-3-full-hd

Now to follow up my previous post, a kind fellow on YouTube uploaded me the 2560x1440 fix. I couldn't find it anywhere in this thread or elsewhere online, but I can confirm it works perfectly, the UI and everything is properly scaled. I've attached it to this post.
There does not seem to be a 3840x2160(4k) fix for C3. If someone can confirm it, I'll start working on it, unless someone faster than me beats me to it.

Thanks for the links Denemy.

I would like to know if anyone has any of the Zeus or Emperor Windowed fixes that JackFuste provided in these three posts:
http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.ph ... 90#p144990
http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.ph ... 33#p145033
http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.ph ... 68#p145668

If so, please can you upload them somewhere?

Edit: Nevermind, I sent a PM to JackFuste and he re-uploaded the Windowed mode patchers.

Next, I want to point out to everyone that Crudelios made the source code for Pharaoh Resizer available:
crudelios wrote:
Download Pharaoh Resizer Souce code

1. Set Horizontal Resolution
2. Set Vertical Resolution
3. Save the file to the game's main directory
4. Open the game using the new file
5. Enjoy!

If the resizer complains about missing DLL's, please download the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015

I'm not sure if it is the source for the May 2016 or November 2016 version. @Crudelios: Can you please confirm which one it is? Also, I've noticed that the French version of your resizer is no longer available for download. Would it be possible for you or someone else to re-upload it somewhere?

To anyone that wants to port the resizer to other games, I glanced at the source code and it looks like making it work with other games would mainly require knowing what addresses need to be hex edited.

Hi everyong!

I'm having problems finding the widescreen for 1920x1080 exe file for Caesar 3. When I tried clicking the link from other people's comment it brings me to a page and tells me that the file is no longer available. Getting kind of desperate to play Caesar 3 =(

Please help thank you!

Hey guys, let's see if anyone here is still listening ;)

I'm playing Pharaoh the GOG Edition through Porting Kit on a mac. If I go into the pharaoh folder and replace the exe with a patched 1080p version, the game launches to the menu, still in 4:3, even launches the game itself, but only in 640 resolution. If I set the res to 1024, as was told in order to see 1080p, the screen turned black, while I could still click around and hear the sounds..

Any ideas?

Hello,

I have an interesting Caesar 3 exe (found back in 2011) that has increased "limits" i.e. Increases the old Sprite and building limits of Caesar 3. Can anyone here add widescreen support to this exe ? would really love to build massive and complex cities beyond 30,000 population with widescreen support!!! You can have the exe for yourselves as well - credit not from me tho :)

Hi everyone

I recently decided to help out the community by creating packs for the various games (ie: Caesar 3, Pharaoh, Zeus and Emperor) with the aim of making these widescreen patches easier to apply. You may find them here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/xjdhdr ... ies_files/

My packs contain all the widescreen resolutions I have found, applied JackFuste's Windowed mode patchers if necessary and also provided EXEs that allow you to change the game's resolution and/or switch between Windowed and Fullscreen mode without running the game.

Can I presume that the game still has a black screen if you restart the game after changing the resolution? Or does the game stay at a resolution of 640x480 after that?

I do remember having a similar problem which fixed itself after I restarted the game. Otherwise, you can try set the resolution before you start the game by either using the resolution switcher EXEs I posted above or open "Pharaoh.inf" with a hex editor and change the 17th byte to "03".
You can also try run the game in Windowed mode to see if that helps, though you do need to run the game in 16-bit colour to make this work (Not sure how you would do that on a Mac, unfortunately).

If these solutions don't work, I would start considering Wine or Porting Kit to be the cause of the problem.

Hello everyone and huge thanks for all the patches already provided.

I just learnt that Zeus heavengames have released an unofficial patch to fix the slow gods animations:
http://zeus.heavengames.com/downloads/s ... fileid=967

Is it possible to add the widescreen fix on top of this new patch?

Hi all, author of the unofficial Zeus patch here. I have no experience creating widescreen patches, but please let me know if someone wants to make one for the unofficial patch: the changes I made to the GOG .exe were simple byte replacements.

Hi everyone,

I am not sure if there is an answer, but I am trying to play Zeus on a laptop Dell XPS 15 (GeForce 960M). I took the 1920x1080 resolution (I copied the DATA folder and the .exe). The game is working, but I have no sidebar on the right (it's gone). My problem is similar to mistressman on page 25 (http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=14149&p=153077&hilit=zeus+sidebar#p153077).

Apparently mistressman didn't receive an answer, but perhaps somebody knows what I can try to make my sidebar appears again ? It will be really great !

Thanks a lot

i just bought c3 from GOG and i'm only able to start the game using the program DxWnd.

i tried a lot of the different possible settings DxWnd offers but the game's resolution is 800 x 600 and i can't do anything to change it.

Thank you everybody for creating these custom resolution patches for these amazing old games. I am still playing them , especially Caesar 3 and Pharaoh. For both of them I am already using the 2560x1440 resolution patches and they work flawlessly , I have on my YT channel a full playthrough Caesar 3 list for both military and peacefull missions using the 2560x1440 resolution , whoever is interested you can check it. I recently bought a UHD monitor , 3840x2160 resolution and I was wondering if there are any patches so I can use them. If not , whenever some of you guys that created the previous patches can you please create them. Thank you a lot again for your hard work , you guys are great.

I have just updated my Zeus Widescreen fixes pack. The changes I have made were to take the widescreen patched EXEs that I had packaged and integrated Pecunia's Unofficial Poseidon animation fix patch into them. As a result, you may now play Zeus in widescreen, windowed and with fixed animations:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sFKfOtOnEM

Furthermore, I have also created a script and EXE that you can use to patch your own Zeus.exe to have the animation fixes. Do note though that I've only tested it with the English GOG version of the game, it might not work with other distributions and languages. You can download my Zeus Widescreen fixes pack and packs for the other City Building Strategy games from my SourceForge page here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/xjdhdr-random-code/files/Game_related_files/City_Building_Strategy_Games_Series_files/

I've managed to patch the various widescreen patches to integrate your animation fixes as stated above. Thanks for fixing that long standing issue. I am curious though: I have no idea what you did to fix this problem; my skill is knowing how to use a hex editor and writing scripts in AutoHotkey. I saw that there are 69 instances where you replaced the byte 0x64 with 0x00. Would you be able to explain what exactly these edits accomplish? Thanks!

To everyone requesting additional resolutions for any of the games, I think your best chance of success would be to send a PM to one of the people that created these widescreen patches and politely ask them to make a patched EXE at your desired resolution.

As for your problems, I would first suggest trying to get the game working on your PC without DxWnd. This could be a potential cause of your game being limited to 800x600 and you shouldn't need it. I currently have Zeus running on my copy of Windows 10 x64 without compatibility issues.
Otherwise, you can try either open Zeus.inf (found in the location you installed Zeus) and edit the 17th byte to say 0x03 instead of 0x02 (the setting for 800x600) or you can download my Zeus Widescreen fixes pack above, copy "Zeus - Change Display Setting - Resolution - 1024x768 or Hacked resolution.exe" to the location you installed Zeus then run it.

Unless someone has created such a patch for that resolution without my knowledge, the answer is no. I would suggest sending a PM to one of the people that created the widescreen patch and politely request that resolution. JackFuste created the majority of the widescreen patches for C3, Space_man created the 1920x1080 patch and Crudelios created the 2560x1440 version you are using. I think JackFuste would be your best bet.

If anyone has the same problem as me, you need to change the Scale and layout in the display settings. The scale was 125%, that is why the last quarter of the screen could not be seen. Select 100 % for the scale and it should work.

Jackfuste has supplied me with a patcher to patch his widescreen versions with my fixes. I've tested it and have uploaded it to HeavenGames.

I saw that there are 69 instances where you replaced the byte 0x64 with 0x00. Would you be able to explain what exactly these edits accomplish? Thanks!

Some animation basics:
- Real-time animations are based on (a multiple of) a 20-millisecond update cycle
- Every 20ms, a flag is set for that render-cycle, indicating that the animation can be advanced
- Some figures in the game, notably gods and urchin collectors, use these (real-time) animations to advance their (game-time) actions

This worked well in 2000 when there was one render-cycle per 20ms, such that an animation update coincided with a "game time" advance. With modern hardware, we have multiple render cycles per 20ms interval, causing the game ticks to 'miss' their animation update and thus act incredibly slow.

The 0x64 (100) is the parameter that tells the game: "advance this figure ONLY if the animation should advance as well". Since that no longer works properly with today's hardware, I changed it to "0", meaning: "always advance". Somehow this worked perfectly well gameplay-wise, so it was an easy patch to make. Finding this bug, however, took me about half a year of reading assembly, plus a year of trying to get GOG to incorporate my fixes in the official distribution ("our techs will look at it soon", "really, it'll be soon"), before giving up and releasing it myself.

Hi guys,
This morning I thought back to Zeus telling me that I had to replay it, I already had a version with HD resolutions, but I always had a problem of animation with the monsters and the gods.
I also remembered that among my hundreds of bookmarks, I had this forum.
So I went to this forum for the first time in years, and there, miraculously, on the last page, a message from a few days ago that offers a fix for the animations! unbelievable..

Thank you very much for your work XJDHDR ! You make immortal the most memorable PC game of my childhood !
For information it seems to work with the game in French.

Now that I have great resolutions and this animation problem is gone, I still have a problem.
In the French language, there are many accents (especially é, è, à), and these do not display well.
From memory I always had this problem with the resolutions in HD but not 16 years ago ( ) with the original game.

Here are some examples :

Image
Here, on the first button the "î" becomes a "Ì" which in addition is shifted upwards.
The "à" becomes a "Ó" (The most serious problem because the letter is not even the good one and the "à" is very used in french, it's like "to" in english)
And all "é" are good but again they are higher than the other letters.

I note that in the game the problem is identical in the messages received by the player, and in the left menu some accents are good, some are not ...

Any ideas ? it looks like a problem of encoding but it seems complicated to fix ...

By the way, sorry for my English, as you noticed i'm french.

I'm having a CTD whenever I try to access the World View in the 1920 x 1080 version. Doesn't happen in base resolution. Bothersome, that. :/

Edit: I should note that's with the resurrected links on the prior page. Going to try XJDHDR's fixes!

Second edit: No more CTD with XJDHDR's patch, just the map stays the same size and most of Anatolia is missing! Looks hilarious, but manageable now!

For anyone looking to play Zeus in widescreen (1920x1080p) or ultrawide (2560x1080p) you should be using my version based on Jackfuste work.
It fixes the top menu and the right sidebar with photoshop elements, and it works because the game doesn't refresh those areas.
I've also added the notes that I've found while trying to make ultrawide possible. With these notes you should be able to do any other resolution (hopefully).
Took me one month to finish the game and the expansion, and the experience was phenomenal. Great 2D art never gets old. Enjoy!

Hi Mario - is there any way you could apply your fix to Caesar 3, or describe the process / edit required to achieve ultrawide?

I'm very keen to play @ 2560x1080

Thanks

After Zeus I decided to try Emperor next.
A week later and I'm finally done: ultrawide fix, notes to make other resolutions and new title screen.
For the other two building games I don't have the time no more, but if I could do it (only by using Total Commander's "Compare by content" command to check for differences in the fixes done by Jackfuste) than anyone could do it.
Especially now with these notes and the games having the same engine. The addresses will be different but at least you will have an idea about what needs to be changed.

[!] Forgot to add this to Zeus notes: The game crashes if the viewport is bigger than the resolution. Check that first!!!

I am struggling to get this working for Pharaoh+Cleopatra.

I have steam Version, on windows 10 64bt but despite hours of trying every combination of Pharaoh.exe and cleopatra.exe and different resolutions etc I can't get the game to accept it. I have searched YouTube, steam forums & here but have been unable to fix it. Tried fresh installs, fresh downloads etc etc but still cant get it to work! :(

I replace the .exe, load up the game & select the highest resolution the game allows right? And it should just change?

yes the games can play in 1920x1920 but beware, all changes are not the same resolution.

there is no source code.
but it would take a summary of HEXA addresses

For Caesar 3, you can also use Julius, a drop-in open source replacement for Caesar 3 which supports every resolution.

Is anyone working on a new HD patch for Zeus/Poseidon? The Zeus patch works fine technically speaking, but it has some really annoying graphical quirks. There's a large section at the bottom of the control panel that gets replaced with part of some random background image (olives?), and the filled-in section of the top bar isn't even the same color as the rest of it. It looks like some very early HD fixes for Pharaoh and the other games, and those games have since received newer patches that actually look like the game was meant to run at a high resolution. I understand that given the differences in the UI coding between Zeus and the other games it may be more difficult to make a smooth-looking HD patch, but there HAS TO be a way to make it look better than the one we have now.

**EDIT** I just clicked back one single page, and found Mario's patch, which works perfectly! Disregard this message please.

I will say, I don't like how in mario's patch, the formerly diverse set of main menu background images has been replaced with non-original edits of the Zeus Victory background. I fixed this by copying the blue fill-in section from one of mario's DATA backgrounds and pasting it over the bottom-right corner of Jackfuste's backgrounds.

I've just uploaded an updated version of my Zeus widescreen fix pack. You may download it from the usual location:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/xjdhdr ... ies_files/

The main changes are as follows:
  • Included widescreen resolution patched files that have a Manifest attached. This Manifest tells Windows to not apply DPI scaling to the game and not trigger a UAC prompt.
  • Some back-end changes to the AutoHotkey scripts I've written to reduce the number of variations in the code and provide more options for selecting the file that needs to be edited.
  • I found some foreign language EXEs that JackFuste created in previous posts that I have included in my pack. This consists of 1 Polish, 1 French and 3 Russian resolution options.
  • I also found some EXEs that fixed the UI for certain resolutions. I have included these as well.
  • Included some documents explaining how you can properly report issues in such a way that you are more likely to get help.

I have not included Mario's edits in my pack because I'm not a fan of the way he "fixed" the interface problem on certain resolutions and much prefer the way JackFuste did it.

If anyone has the same problem as me, you need to change the Scale and layout in the display settings. The scale was 125%, that is why the last quarter of the screen could not be seen. Select 100 % for the scale and it should work.

The latest version of my widescreen fixes pack provides the option of the various widescreen resolutions patched with a Manifest file that tells Windows to not apply DPI scaling to Zeus. If you use that version, you won't have to change that Scale setting.

Thank you very much for fixing the bug and the explanation.

In the French language, there are many accents (especially é, è, à), and these do not display well.
From memory I always had this problem with the resolutions in HD but not 16 years ago ( ) with the original game.

You're welcome. Sorry for the late reply but as for your problem, it's because the English version of Zeus (which most of the widescreen patches are based on) don't have code for properly handling those characters. Thus, one has to make a widescreen version using the French EXE to fix this problem. I did find that JackFuste created a 1080p version of the French EXE which I have included in my latest widescreen pack. Problem with this one is that I wasn't able to apply the animation patch to it because the addresses that need to be hex edited are very different to the English version and I have no idea how to find these addresses. Also, that version crashes on start with my Zeus install. Not sure if the EXE is broken or if it's looking for something that is only present in the French version. So you will have to choose either fixed animations or fixed characters.

That said, hopefully someone can fix the animations in that version of Zeus.

[!] Forgot to add this to Zeus notes: The game crashes if the viewport is bigger than the resolution. Check that first!!!

Thank you for your explanation of what you did. I read through your notes and I have a question:
Code:
addr 18e2c8: 0d 01 [vw vw] 00 00 c7 05  (viewport width)
// [vw vw]=[ca 06] => 1738px for 1920p
// [vw vw]=[22 09] => 2338px for 2560p
i.e. (VW VW = width - 182)

Where did you get these numbers from? Why did you use 1738px for 1920p and 2338px for 2560p?

Thanks for the contribution. What is the difference between what you've created and what would be created by Crudelios' Pharaoh Resizer?

I'm sure someone who knows what they're doing could make it happen. As for source code, Crudelios' created a program called the Pharaoh Resizer which can create a copy of Pharaoh's EXE at whatever resolution you want and the source code for it is available. Mario also explains in his patched EXEs a few posts above yours how to make Zeus and Emperor run in widescreen resolutions. Otherwise, there isn't really any source code.

Nice find, thanks! Do you know if there are any disadvantages to using Julius versus the original C3?

I found a few widescreen versions of the game while combing through this thread that have a fixed interface which seem to have been forgotten. I've included them in my widescreen pack.

Dear all,

Thank you very much for your efforts.
Now I can enjoy the Pharaoh, Zeus and Emperor in 1920x1080.
This games remind me about the time when I was much younger and thinner :)

I joined because GamerZakh says to come here to wsgf.org to get the download to do CaesarIII, Pharaoh/Cleopatra, Emperor, etc WIDESCREEN. I wanted 1920 x 1080 but I can't see where to download these. Looking for Pharaoh 'Crudelious' but I simply can't find where these downloads are. (Windows 7, Custom Built PC can handle anything...don't like being in the 'cloud' so won't use anything beyond Windows 7) All these games purchased from GOG.

If you look at my last post 3 posts above yours, you can find the widescreen fixes for all four games.

Also...

For Emperor, I don't have 2560x1080 (yet).

I want to share with @everyone an issue that has beset the WSGF over the last week or so. Google has decided that the files we host (exe files, patchers, etc.) are malware. Thus, they have flagged the entire WSGF as hosting and/or linking malware, which inhibits site access and search rankings.

Both the WSGF and our older media server (WSGF Media dot com) have been flagged. We have found a solution for our hosted files, via our friends at PC Gaming Wiki. However, we still have an issue with the forums linking to the old WSGF Media server.

There is no feasible way to go through the forums and edit the possible thousands of posts that reference the WSGF Media server. And there is absolutely no guarantee that Google won't ping some future post attachment and flag the entire site again.

The forums are much quieter today then they used to be, with just 1 or 2 active posts per day on average, on top of this we continue to have issues with bots or humans creating accounts to post spam. Additionally, the forums have hampered our ability to enable HTTPS and update the site to be more modern and mobile friendly.

The internet itself has also shifted, with sites like Reddit and services like Discord, YouTube and Twitch being where most discussion happens. Given all of the above we are exploring the idea of "archiving" the forums into their own domain so that everything could be read, but no new posts or accounts could be created. We would then direct all new discussion to a Reddit community and/or our Discord server, which we hope will make discussing and working on fixes more practical.

We are really at a crossroads where the forums have gone from being a minor or moderate inhibitor to growth of the WSGF, to now a major roadblock (thanks to Google). We need a road forward, and wanted to reach out to the community to socialize the issue and our ideas, and to get your feedback.

I'd love to hear your feedback in our Discord Server - https://discord.gg/FcVYWgh

Is it possible you do this for the German Versions of each game too? It didnt work well with the german version. Some text is just out of Bounds etc. I can provide the german Files when you need to.
