Stupid way to start my membership in here .. BUT.. Have not experienced any crashes using the crack from THETA
I still can't confirm that it's a fully working one but after 10% of the game behind, not a single crash yet.

Try this and report findings:

[edit]use the link further down the page[/edit]

Report resolution and wither or not the FOV seems OK, you should be able to either just see the bottom of alice's feet or a bit more depending on your resolution, if it seems entirely wrong you can use FOVBoost option to change it, enter like -10 or +10 for example.

Use this one instead of the one I posted above - initializing the bool values to true when default is ticked... is probably a good idea :)

discy, looks like the FOV is a touch low, probably need +5 or 10, I calibrated the values using 5760x1080 (5.3333^) looks like your 6000x1080?

Man - pretty awesome game, So thought it "would not be my thing" but... its actually really cool, the puzzle type stuff doesnt get old or boring, the combat mechanics are pretty good... looks nice too, I just discovered I had postprocessing etc off, oh what a difference having it enabled makes.

One issue I found is that the resolution selected in the game is stored somewhere other than the config file (it MUST be in two places) but I couldn't find it, anyway, you need to make sure in the game you have the right resolution selected, irrespective of what is in the config file... even if you have to navigate it blindly or whatever, it must be done.... will only effect people who have changed their resolution in the game.

Help me.

This is a fix for surround, not for 16:10 or 4:3 users. (at the moment, but don't let that indicate it will be fixed.)

demanding stuff isn't going to get you anywhere. patience - we see you have a issue with 16:10.

Check in AliceEngine.ini there's probably some settings in there to help. I got mine unlocked by turning off FPS smoothing and all that junk.

Games running pretty well, about 90-100 FPS untill the heavy physX kicks in, then can go down to the 50-60 FPS. I might limit my frames to 70 to avoid the noticeable difference in these areas.

Lucky you. Im only getting about 30 fps on my 5850. Theres a bunch of stuff in that config file though that I could possibly play with.

Simply open the ini file and search for "ResX". There are TWO LOCATIONS or ResX. BOTH of them must have the same width resolution in order to work.
2 ResX and 2 ResY.

Hope this helps.

Ps: AWESOME FIX Hayden! You rock as always!

I limited the frames to 60 with vsync off but the screen still tears and it stutters. I can't stand screen tear. with it all off I get over 140....with tears

One day when it's on special I'll buy it and add support for it.

Anyone who find's Flawless Widescreen handy should consider donating! - cause that's where the one can draw funds to purchase games that need a fix.

Can't get the Flawless fix to work with mine.

It just works during the intro credit splash screens then as soon as I "hit enter" the fix disables and I'm stuck with that pillar in the middle view.

I have the Origin download version, but I found one of those cracks you mentioned and applied it to my game, but still no worky.

Thanks sooooo much Hayden!

I am at work but I will try set it up tonight and report back.

I have the complete collect from Origin, so by the looks of things I may have to re-install for it to work, hopefully I dont need to apply the T**** crack as I paid for this game... The devs should really have all this stuff sorted before they release, or hire Hayden to do it for them!

One thing I noticed from the screen shots:

On the menu screen in 1080p res it looks like there is something on the left that disappears off screen, as if it is supposed to drag across when you click on it or something but I could not work out how, maybe because I was using a 360 controller, I am not sure. But in those 3 monitor screen shots you can see it, it looks like a display of items / memories / weapons, can anyone elaborate on what it is and why it is off screen in normal 1080p res?

Confused :s

Thanks again Hayden!!

Try removing the config files in C:UsersVincentDocumentsMy GamesAlice Madness ReturnsAliceGameConfig
If it doesn't work.. remove the config files and reinstall alice all together.

It worked for me :).

Thanks Hayden works great!

I have the complete collection and I didn't bother applying your fix straight to that as I didn't want to have to deal with other problems so I just applied the crack and ran your fix with FOV set to +7 with my bezel corrected res of 6036 x 1080.

I did however have the problem of the resolution going back to the pillar on the left screen when the main menu hit and I tried setting the second resX value to 6036 in the .ini file however this did not fix it and I had to navigate blindly to set the resolution in game to 6036 x 1080.

Is everyone else having the problem where the game just freezes for a few seconds at random times? I have crossfired 6950s and I was getting bad lag in battles but i turned to physX to low and that seems to be fixed, however I still get this random freeze every now and then, happens even when nothing intensive is going on, very annoying.

Also what does post processing do in this game? When I turn it off my frames go up, and the only difference I can really see from having it on is that everything becomes brighter and more colorful. I think I prefer having it off as you get a more dark and ominous look from the game which is similar to the original.

Also I have noticed that the lock on icon does not hover above the target when in 6036 x 1080 res, not a real big issue, anyone else getting this? The lock system is horrible and clunky and doesn't work properly half the time, trying to avoid using it.

Overall this is a great game, just wish they had optimized the lock on mechanics better before releasing.

If anyone knows how to fix the freezing please share! I have my maxsmoothframerate set to 60 and vsync set to false, with d3doverrider forcing vsync instead, this results in high frame rates with no tearing, just gotta fix this random couple of second freezing I am getting...

Thanks again Hayden!!

Any chance of taking a look at the original "American McGee's Alice"? It could sure use a proper widescreen/surround fix, especially the HUD.

So how is the game, anyway? Certainly looks neat, but it also kinda looks like it may get boring after a while.. and too easy.

I would suggest to check some reviews ;)
Personally I like the simplicity in movement because I'm not that good with an xbox controller :D, the fights can be quite hard though.

I am also having the random freezes (1-5 seconds) then back to normal. Also noticed that PhysX is not working as well as it should along with poor gpu usage (19%, 14%, 15%) across all three cards and fps dropping (down to 14fps) because of it.

I have the SLi profile, but am unsure why this is all happening.

Try renaming "PhysXDevice.dll" to "PhysXDevice.bak" in your "...alice madness returnsBinariesWin32" folder.

This effectively forces the game to use the installed version of PhysX rather than the one included with the game. You might recognize this fix if you've ever dealt with hardware PhysX in Mirrors Edge

I'm having problems with the game freezing while at the loading screen ie. the one with the oscillating key chain. Eventhough i turned off the AA setting inside the game, I constantly get the red sign indicating the AA has been changed to 2xAA because of not having enough video memory. It says to either turn off 3D or surround. I guess this might be why the game freezes.

There is no possible way that I'm running out of VRAM with 3GB. The highest VRAM usage I've seen yet is 1283MB.

Just played the game for about an hour and it appears the 5 second freeze problem has disappeared, I did nothing more to the config files, the only thing I did was restart my computer so I would guess the freezing problem is a CPU thing, if you are having this problem try a restart.

The only problem I am having now (apart from the horrible buggy lock on system) is I cant run with post processing on without getting hit with a massive drop in FPS, again this must be CPU limited as 2 x 6950s should be able to handle this.

At this point I think I am happy enough with it to sit down and finally play this properly in eyefinity glory, I just hope I dont run into any of these game play bugs a lot of people are experiencing that doesn't allow you to progress :s

Thanks Hayden

Ok I am a bit confused on how to get Alice to span... I did the INI file hack and it did not work.

Unfortunately, SLI doesn't work that way. Each card needs the same data in its own local memory in order for SLI to work, which means if card #1 loads in 500MB of data, then card #2 and card #3 load in exactly the same 500MB of data.

In effect, you only have 1GB of usable video RAM, not 3GB. Seeing 1283MB of video RAM usage would mean you've run out of video RAM and are swapping in and out of system RAM

true. every single card has got all the textures in their own video-ram, they can't share/combine the memory.

I've got a 6950 2gb (5760x1080) + i5-760 and get no stuttering with AA. Also I did apply the fps fixes. and Physx is on low (Mafia 2 physx was a real killer for me).

C:UsersUserNameDocumentsMy GamesAlice Madness ReturnsAliceGameConfigAliceEngine.ini

bSmoothFrameRate=TRUE (2x in the file!)
MinSmoothedFrameRate=22 (2x in the file!)
MaxSmoothedFrameRate=60 (2x in the file!)
==> change to read-only

But i would think the stuttering is more due to physx..?

I'm doing ok with a single HD5850 at 5040x1050, haven't tried turning on AA yet.

I've got PhysX turned all the way up and I'm not getting any undue stuttering... but then, I have a GTX260 installed in the slot below my HD5850, acting as a dedicated PhysX card

Makes a big difference.. when I turn on physics it sometimes drops from a steady 60 to 25 when a lot of physx effects are displayed. (and there are quite a lot of effects in this game that depend on physx)

Question how you configure the nvidia card to be a dedicated physx on a ATI vid system?

:searchplease http://www.google.com/#q=how+to+configure+dedicated+physx+ati ==> http://www.overclock.net/graphics-cards-general/508305-howto-ati-nvidia-physx-guide.html

you do need a pretty decent card as illustrated by these benchmarks: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-physx-hack-amd-radeon,2764-8.html

I run with 2 6970's @ 950/1450, on a core i7 970 @ 4.2 Ghz, also have a 450GTX available. and thank you for the links. ok Do I need to have a fourth monitor? or can I disconnect it? All I have is 3 monitors available one of which has 3 different inputs. As far as Alice trying to get it spanned has not been an easy task I may have to reinstall the game and go from there...

Here you go, Hybrid PhysX Mod: http://www.ngohq.com/graphic-cards/17706-hybrid-physx-mod-v1-03-v1-04ff.html

Basically, all you have to do is install your AMD and Nvidia drivers normally, then run the Hybrid PhysX Patch v1.04ff.

To get Alice to use the dedicated PhysX card instead of defaulting to CPU PhysX, be sure to rename "PhysXDevice.dll" to "PhysXDevice.bak" in your "...alice madness returnsBinariesWin32" folder.

I just want to say THANK YOU for making this program. I've been desperately searching for a fix to the letterboxing rendering problem since the game came out. For some reason I never thought to look here *doh*

Two issues though:

First, the FOV Fix pretty much doubles the CPU usage of the game and seems to drastically change the balance between cores. It makes the game run really poorly on my computer because of this, but luckily I don't need the FOV fix because I only have a single monitor.

Second, the program states that the aspect fix should remove the letterboxing, yet the letterboxing is still present when I use it. The aspect fix works wonders though :D

The nvidia physx did not turn out to well :(, but I found out the Mighty 970 Hex @ 4.2 GHz is more then capable of handling Ageia physx. i get some studddering when in some big fights while physx is set to max. may reduce it a bit to med.

What went wrong?

...you do have an Nvidia card installed in addition to your ATi card, right? Kinda need that for hardware accelerated physX >_>

Just to stay on-topic on the off-topic physx. You guys might want to read this article and consider if you really want to pay nvidia to get a new gpu: http://semiaccurate.com/2010/07/07/nvidia-purposefully-hobbles-physx-cpu/

Discussing PhysX seems on-topic to me, considering the game this thread is about uses PhysX...

If you have a decent spare Nvidia card just sitting around, it's at least worth a shot setting it up as a PhysX accelerator to get the most out of Alice.

That article is known to be sensationalist, and greatly overstates the performance gain you would get by recompiling PhysX for SSE. The article claims a 20% speedup, when in reality it's more like 8% (and only in some circumstances).

Besides that, the version of PhysX that runs in software on your CPU was coded entirely by AGEIA (when this article was written, Nvidia had hardly altered a single line of code), which means optimization issues like using X87 instead of SSE were there before Nvidia even got their hands on it. Since then, they've done some work optimizing the mess they inherited from AGEIA.

More recent versions of PhysX are compiled for SSE, and we have seen an ~8% speedup for it. A decent GPU still ends up being substantially faster than your average quad core CPU due to how parallel GPU architectures are.

If you have the extra GPU or can get one cheap it's noticeable it for the games that use it.

Get alot more FPS with my gts450 running physX.

Hello, I wonder if you'll have to solve the problem of monitors with 16:10 aspect. Or there will be a solution to this problem?
Thank you!

Yeah ... I don't think I'm going to bother with an extra gpu for the entire total of 5 games that support physx

Well the big problem (rendering bug) is fixed by the Flawless Widescreen program, the only thing that's left is letterboxing which honestly is a minor issue compared to what's already been fixed. It would still be awesome if someone could find a way to eliminate it, but I expect it is a more complicated problem.

Yeah, I wouldn't either usually.

But I had this spare gts450 sitting here from a cancelled build and was playing mafia 2 at the time so figured, "what the heck!"

Usually it just sits here consuming watts for nothing though :)

Unfortunately, SLI doesn't work that way. Each card needs the same data in its own local memory in order for SLI to work, which means if card #1 loads in 500MB of data, then card #2 and card #3 load in exactly the same 500MB of data.

No, really, each one of my cards has 3GB of usable video RAM. I know how it works. It looks like this when a game like Crysis 2 nearly maxes it out...

Hi Guys, I just picked this game up from the new Origin storefront, they were running a special code on a lot of games so picked it up for $12 (ORIGIN60). Anyway, I would love to play this thing in widescreen mode, but Hayden's links earlier in this thread are all dead. Does anyone have a copy they can email me? [email protected]? (Remove the NoSpam). Or direct me to another download location? Thanks!

i really didnt try very hard on this game. i ended up just finishing the game in a single screen res :P
seeing there might be a solution it might be kinda cool to replay bits and pieces.

as much as i love magee and i loved alice, i got pretty bored about 80% of the way through. but 80% is still pretty damn far so i just finished out the game for the sake of it. i did hook up my 1920x1200 hp 24" though, i wasnt about to finish the game on a single 1280x1024 :P

What gives? Was a better solution found?

I'd love for widescreen fixer to get this to work. I never use flawless, and it sucks having to use two fixing apps. I'd prefer to have one app that fixes all.

Hi everybody , and sorry for my poor mastery of your language but it s not mine ... (fr inside)

I m here to ask you , if maybee you got an anwser or a fix for my old issue .
Why did my skidrow version of alice madness works only on my middle screen .
Here is my config : i7-3770k , Gxt 690 , 2x8g Gskill , 3x27"Samsung.
I ve try everything , read every topic even this one . (set engigne.ini to 5760x1080 , use flawlesswidesceen v1.0.12 and latest too)
In game res is set to 5760x1080 , lateral screen don t show anything .
Is this from my version of the geme exe ?
But the game stay still on the center screen ..

Is there something I m missing ?
