swtiched to 90.xx drivers. Guess they have better hardware compability because they detected the optimal resolution automaticly and in CS my refreshrate changed to 75Hz.

So I rest my case

This is an interesting topic for me, as I used to play Counter-Strike (and some other same-engine mods (e.g: TFC, DoD) 4 years long.

What I want to know is:

1) Will my Geforce 4 Ti4200 handle a WideScreen resolution? (My computer: AMD Athlon XP 1800+ with 256 DDR RAM) (I'm wanting to buy a 20" WS, but still doubting whether my old computer can handle high WS resolutions)

Note: When I go to the resolution-tab in windows I can only see "normal" resolutions (1600 instead of WS 1680 for example), could that be because of my 15" CRT monitor currently being connected to my PC temporary + old ForceWare drivers (81.98) installed?)

2) What will the WideScreen resolution be for Counter-Strike 800x600 ? (and how to config it? : I would prefer black blocks around the actual window (that way the window doesn't stretch)).

I have a Geforce 4600 Ti. And CS works quite alright in 1280x720. That is the lowest widescreen res. that´s available.

You can choose to use i.e. 640x480 (a standard res.) in CS and then set a option so that the image isn´t streched (black on both sides of the 640x480 image).

Dont worry about your windows resolution. That card will not have a problem with providing you with the correct resolutions in windows.

You might need to use newer drivers because I had some problems with detonator 4x.xx. To overcome that problem I used Powerstrip to enforce a resolution of 1680x1050 in windows. It all worked good and those drivers a for sure more optimized for an old engine like the half-life one.

Okay, thanks for your reply :)

I've got a 3th question actually: Will I be able to see movies "fullscreen" with my Geforce 4 TI4200?

I think some never gpu:s (your gpu is in the nvidia 4 series) have some new features for optimizing DVD playback. But I´m pretty happy with what I´ve got so dont worry too much about it
