Summary:

Utilizing the wide-screen fix for FEAR: Extraction Point does not work on my laptop using an external monitor.

Hardware:

Dell XPS2 laptop with Nvidia 256MB 7800GTX.
Samsung 244T LCD connected via DVI.

The Samsung is configured to be the Primary monitor, and the laptop LCD is the secondary display.

Description of Problem:

After editing the configuration file as directed, starting Extraction Point resets the settings in the file to 640x480. This happens the moment EP loads.


Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I want to play this game!

It might be a stupid awnser, but this sounds like when the game starts it doesn't reconize the resolution you entered and it will reset to default.. Are your sure you typed it correctly ? Try using a different resolution..

I have verified that I'm doing it all correctly. No matter which resolution I try, it does the same thing: Right back to 640x480.

Edit the file to the desired resolution, then make the file read only and try again.

Otherwise try deleting the file/uninstalling and applying the new patch which "supposedly" supports widescreen resolutions if you havent already, then see if you can set the desired res ingame.

I don't think there is a patch for EP ... it was a patch for FEAR that added the widescreen support ... you can get that one here ... Sierra
and here ... 3D Gamers

Ah, I see. I have that patch, and while it does add WS support to the FEAR configuration utility, it does not do so for EP. You'd think they'd patch them both at the same time with such a feature.

I think I tried the read only trick, and it recreated the file anyway. It must have something to do with using two monitors.

FEAR seems to work just fine, yes. I've just reinstalled Windows (last night) and will be reinstalling FEAR in the next day or so and will try again then.

Just thought id check, you are editing the correct file right? In Shared documents, inside the folder TimeGate Studios NOT Monolith Productions as it's made by a different dev team.

You havent' mentioned it, so just thought i'd check!
