There's nothing useful in the registry regarding the game, and changing the ini files will change the settings, but it will not do 3440x1440. Not sure what else to do, as you said the HEX editor just makes the game crash.

Just received news from the developer: "animations were authored for 16:9 (back when it was a PS4 exclusive) so changing the camera has the potential to reveal lots of graphical bugs that would require reanimating much of the game."

They're not sure if it's something they can do apparently, as it will glitch out the game if the camera/fov changes. They said it will take a month or so if they find out that they can and do change it.

Much appreciated, as always, jackfuste! However, I can't get it to work. It's my first time using CheatEngine, so that might have something to do with it. I've used the file you uploaded, and I select the FinchGame.exe process after I've started the game, and then put the Black_Bars and FOV as active. I've tried with them both checked and unchecked, but still black bars. The game will only let me select 1920x1080 and 2560x1440, and not their 21:9 counterparts...

Black_Bars value should be set to 0 and FOV value should be increased to ~0.01052664 for Hor+ at 21:9.

This is some game internal resolution. Just leave it at highest possible.

thanks for that. i dont normally use cheatengine as HxD is easier to use and i feel cheatengine is like a last resort. glad someone looked up the values, etc for this. the fact it works is great, never could get cheatengine to work correctly with the cracked version of RE7

The CE fix worked great. I didn't see any animation glitches or anything out of the ordinary during my playthrough, so I don't understand what the devs are on about. There was once that the 16:9 part was a black box with text while the game rendered on the sides, but that's to be expected with a fix. I don't see how this can't be easily implemented in an update.

As always, thanks to jackfuste!

I couldn't get this to work. I had CE running and selected the game process from the list. I made sure the values were set according to Jackfuste's post --> "Black_Bars value should be set to 0 and FOV value should be increased to ~0.01052664 for Hor+ at 21:9."

I'm new to CE and there's every chance I have missed a vital step here somewhere. I could not get the game to run in 21:9 (3440x1440).

Would it be possible for someone who knows what they're doing to write a quick set of steps I can follow in order to try and get this working?

Thanks.

Try this trainer:
Attachment:
WRoEF_21x9.7z [2.55 MiB]
Downloaded 3535 times
For 21:9 (2560x1080; 3440x1440; 3840x1600)

Attachment:
WRoEF_48x9.7z [2.54 MiB]
Downloaded 742 times
For 48:9 and 48:10 (4800x900; 5040x1050; 5760x1080; etc...)

  • Run trainer (don't press "Fix" button)
  • Run game
  • Trainer will be automatically closed after memory patching

In game options you won't see your resolution, since game uses some internal resolution, just leave maximum possible value there, mostly it will be 1920x1080; 2560x1440 or 3840x2160.

Can't use the trainer (WRoEF_48x9.7z). I get an error message:

"The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."

The file then deletes itself.

Any ideas?

(or if someone could post the FOV value for 5760x1080 on the Cheat Engine mentioned above, I'd appreciate it)

The file can't delete yourself, so I think it's your antivirus/antimalware software deleted it.

That worked - thanks! MAlwarebytes was causing the error.

Only issue now is that the FOV seems nice and wide, but it's only displaying on my center monitor. I've tried changing all the graphics settings with no luck.

I tried the first CE table with the changed values and it didn't work. I tried the trainer in the required order and it still didn't work... using them together isn't working either :(

I feel like I've missed something somewhere. I'm also new to CE so I'm not sure if there's a button that needs to be pressed to activate it or what, but I did try the Activate buttons on the left of the tables. Still nothing.

No idea what's wrong. Any ideas?

I have no ideas why trainer doesn't work for you. For me it works for both game versions 1.0 and 1.1.
As for CE table, it may doesn't work since it contain values only for 1.0 version.
Here's new table with values for both version:

  1. Run game
  2. Alt+Tab it

  7. You will see values 01 and 0.008726646192 in lines named Black_Bars and FOV depending on your game version
  8. Change Black_Bars value from 01 to 00
and FOV value 0.008726646192 depending on your resolution
    0.010517609658 - for 2560x1080
    0.010565921681 - for 3440x1440

The CE table (at least the FOV hack) doesn't work anymore with the GOG.com version of the game (.exe name also changed from FinchGame.exe => FinchGame-Win64-Shipping.exe). Please update!

Yup, that's right, just like Keith said. The trainer (WRoEF_21x9.7z) and the CE table doesn't work on new GOG version.
I hope that you will update (or make a new one for GOG) either or both the trainer and CE table, please.

Sorry for bumping such an old topic, but I'm trying to get this game an FOV hack and while the replacement EXE's work as far as getting custom resolutions to work, there isn't any way of just specifically hacking the FOV at any given resolution.

Would it be possible to get an FOV-specific hack for this game? My goal here is to control the field of view in order to get the game working with VorpX.
VorpX itself does have an FOV enhance feature but it severely breaks the game's shadows. I was hoping to find something more reliable here but to no avail.
I tried using CheatEngine but with this being my first time using the app, I mostly end up breaking the game more than anything else.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS: I am using the GOG edition of the game. I fear the Steam edition might actually still work with CheatEngine but I'm not inclined to buy the game twice, obviously.

I loaded the linked file into the cheat engine application, but couldn’t tick the box for the FOV cheat. What am I doing wrong? Could it be because I’m using the Steam version of the game?

For some reason my version of the game (Steam) only offers three resolutions: 1920 x 1080, 1440 x 810, and 1280 x 720. Any idea what I would change the FOV value to for 1920 x 1080?

This here might help you:
http://www.interleave-vr.com/docs/VorpXInstructions_WRoEF.pdf

I made detailed instructions on how to get this working for any version of the game (hopefully).
Assuming you're the same person as the individual I saw in the VorpX forums.

As for resolutions: with VorpX if you're trying to run in windowed mode (or anything else than FullScreenMode=1 in GameUserSettings.ini) the game will basically crash right after the starting logos fade out. You're pretty much stuck with those options (also perhaps DSR or higher res monitors can allow to run at 2560x1440 or 3840x2160, but given how this game is on the brink as far as performance goes at 1080p, I wouldn't recommend going higher.)

PS: Thanks to susahamat and everyone who contributed to the WRoEF hacks page. Those have all been helpful at one point or another.
