This may be a crazy idea but I've been thinking about it this last week. I have some experience in 3d modelling. I know this forum is primary focused on fixing things and testing things around widescreen gaming. But wouldn't it be cool to gather a team on this site to have a indie project going on, that also can be a big thing. |

I've certainly thought about it. ;) Not really in a position to start/commit to such a project myself, but it would indeed be cool to see such a community effort come to life. |

I've certainly thought about it. ;) Pretty much this, I've gave it deep consideration a number of weeks ago and came to largely the same conclusion, while it'll be fairly easy to find people who will go "Sure I'll help". Getting said people to continue to commit over an extended period of time required to make a game is another matter completely. Plus the amount of work required to make even a simple game is not to be underestimated, its a large undertaking. Also such a project would be best as a free game, because if your going to source random people who will commit random amounts of time your going to have a nightmare in the long run when it comes to splitting the profits. Any such project would also require one person to lead and spearhead the effort, its all very well making a community effort, but if you don't have the one person with overriding control then the game can end up a mess of a number of peoples interpretations of the end result. |

Yeah that's true the thing is finding a leader that can oversee such a big project over time. The thing is there are so many different engines out there that can soot our need. Like I'm hearing good things about Unity that allot of indie people have started adapting more. |

Unity is a really good engine in includes allot of stuff and includes a world editor and is free for the basic version, in fairness UDK / UE3 isn't a bad engine ether, but you will had a harder job getting horizontal plus rendering and correctly drawn UI in it. CryENGINE 3 Free SDK looks promising too but I never found the time to look into that one. |

These days I'm using UDK, I haven't either looked much into Cryengine 3. But I have heard that in Unity you can import entire scenes for-example that you have done in 3ds max. In UDK its a pain in the ass with this at times where you have to start placing an entire scene over again. I'm planning to start looking more into Cryengine 3. If we plan a game very good I think it can be done. I dont know why but I just have this special feeling, indie games are becoming so more and popular. |

| Post subject: | I wouldn't know about |
I wouldn't know about importing scenes from 3ds Max, I know you can import objects for most editing programs but I never tried importing a whole scene. That said my skills in Blender aren't that good anyway, I've never been that good at making 3D objects, and have no idea how to go about making textures for them. UDKs map builder has never been the most user friendly system to work with, although I got along OK with the versions they released for UT and UT2004. I would be interested to know what kind of toolset Cryengine 3 comes with, Unity has a respectable set, although for the best sets you need to pay £1000 for the pro version but the free version isn't bad. |

If you need more training in modelling digital tutors is always a good place:http://www.digitaltutors.com/11/index.php Well I just started looking more into CryEngine 3 SDK today and it really does have some nice toolsets: http://www.crydev.net/dm_eds/download_detail.php?id=4 |

Arr screenshots, last time I looked at that page was when it was still in beta so they wasn't there, looks comprehensive, although maybe not as easy to pick as Unity was but I would have to find the time to try it myself. |

In my spare time (what little of it there is) I'm planning out a couple of little games. They weren't going to be 3D, as I suck at modelling things much more complex than a cube. ;) |
