Post subject:  Cinematic aspect ratio with 16:9 monitor

I've been thinking about the use of HOR+ for modern game FOV scaling. It's common knowledge that 16:9 monitors are more suitable for gaming than 16:10 because the latter will have less horizontal FOV, but what I want to know is why stop at 16:9?

2560x1440 = 1.77:1 (3,686,400 pixels)
2560x1080 = 2.37:1 (2,764,800 pixels)

Pros:
- Larger horizontal field of view
- Less pixels means lower hardware requirements and/or higher detail settings / framerate.
- 2.37:1 is very close to the cinema standard of 2.39:1, giving a more 'cinematic' feel to the game.

Cons:
- Lower visible detail level than 2560x1440 due to 'zoomed out' effect
- Letterboxing black bars (doesn't bother me)
- Possible lack of support in game settings (haven't looked into this)

Thoughts?
