Legendary game though, and probably the first game of that type i've really got in to

Final Fantasy VII has the same problem - it'll install in 'compatability mode' but even with 'compatability mode' it falls over and dies regularly on XP or 2000. It's a known bug - they did release a 'patch', but that causes other issues as well. *sigh*

Yeah its a shame :(

I started working my way through the PS1 version la few summers ago, didnt get round to finshing it though.

I'd been told that the PS1 version looks great on a playstation emulator with full AA and AF turned on, unfortnately i couldnt get the emulators working though. They emulators arent as stable as the likes of Bleem! and VGS, and take a lot more tweaking to work properly. :(

I've never yet managed to get a PSX emulator to run without problems. Maybe it's just me. ;)

But I prefer the PC version anyway...

VGS is very good and reliable (or used to be on win 9X anyway), but it runs everything at PSX native res (320x240) so looks a *little* outdated these days :).

What emulators did you attempt? I use epsxe160 and it's flawless bar some quarky sounds sometimes. You just need the right filters. I'm playing from the original discs not iso, could that be the problem?

I've had no issues playing FFVII... I remember you just install the xp patch and video patch and play away.

It doesent use Direct 3D or Open GL to do the rendeing, it uses Glide and whatever the api for the matrox and renditions was. I cant see how it would work on any modern graphics card without a wrapper. If that can be solved then it could possibly work with compatibility mode turned on.

Ah, that makes sense. Good to know.

Nah ive got the original PS disk.

Saying that i was trying to run this on my last PC, which was about as stable as a one legged man on stilts, so maybe that was the problem :)

Have you completed the game? It's got issues late on in Disc 2...
