5858 is not a multiple of 3, so there's that... Maybe switching to windowed mode (Alt+Enter) before using the pause menu would help.

This doesn't seem to work for me. The loading screen is stretched out and when I get to the menu , it asks me to activate my game which is already activated. I'm using the steam version. Can you post the source or figure out what the problem is?

Thanks a lot. Unfortunately, I am having a problem with this exe. =(

When I use this, I get prompted by social club to activate my account. I use my cd key from steam and I get a message saying that this cd key has already been used. I can't proceed to playing the game. =(

Luckily, I backed up the original .exe and this still allows me to play when I revert back to it.

Any ideas to get around this?

Wow! You would do that? That's amazing!

Once I get home from work. I'll post an uploaded version of it. I'm sure Razed and myself aren't the only two who'd make use of it.

p.s. I wonder if there is an updated flawless widescreen fix on the way? I'm new to the community here and haven't figured out how these things go. :)

This works great but I have one gripe with it. The HUD/text stretches itself and ends up looking ugly that way. Can you fix that while still keeping the HUD fix for 21:9 monitors?

i noticed that too since the last update, my "solution" for this was fiddling around with the HUD safty zone in the settings (with unpatched exe i did a start and reduced the zone, then start with patched one), maybe it will help to delete the settings "pc_settings.bin" in user folder. if i really know to fix it in a simple way i let u know

Hey Zens,

Thanks for the patch! I too noticed the stretched hud. I'll fiddle around and see if I can get it looking nice.

In my case i found a solution to this together with the Rockstar support. As long as i do not use bezel compensated resolutions (my setup: 5858x1080), the game runs fine in 5760x1080. As soon as i switch back to 5858x1080 the error when opening the pause menue is back there again.

Hope this works for you too?

I have tried this and it 100% work. It is worth it to remove bezel compensation. God I was tired to crash every time I needed to pause. It was also doing it like 8 times outta 10 so everytime I wanted to pause the game I was crossing my fingers.

7680x1440
8040x1440 with bezel compensation

I've just upgraded my rig so I'm trying GTA V with the Rift, VorpX and FWS again. Right now I can't seem to enable the FWS patch, I get this message:
Code:
Could not find Letterbox fix injection point, Grand Theft Auto V may have updated to a version that is no longer supported.
Try selecting a different version and re-enable the fix.

I don't even have letterbox enabled. I'm using the plugin by HaYDeN, version 2.1.97 - Rev: 3. I've made sure I'm using FWS beta builds. Should it still work?

Does anyone else have the issue of when heisting the hacking minigame is squished or distorted? I play at 4010x1024 bezel corrected for 3840x1024, and the hacking in heists is super squished in and nigh unplayable.

Hi,

it's really easy to fix.

1. Download a free hex editor : https://mh-nexus.de/de/hxd/

2. Search for this value: 39 8E E3 3F (16:9)

3. Replace it with: 8A E3 18 40 (21:9)

Done.

8A E3 18 40 is for 3440x1440

The right value for 2560x1080 : 26 B4 17 40

@Deisi You should have done some research before giving all of these people the wrong solution. If you look at Zens modified EXE's, he doesn't change the hex values because the game has native support in 21:9. There is no reason to change the hex values. The problem is that the minimap, cutscenes, and other features are rendered in 16:9.

Zens found a way to push the minimap to the corner of a 21:9 aspect ratio screen as well as fix the cutscenes. He did this without changing the aspect ratio hex values. His fix worked in version 1.30 but Rockstar decided to update the game again months later and Zens has not been active on this forum since then. If anyone has any idea how Zens was able to fix this problem, please fix it for version for 1.31 or tell me how I can fix it.

In the game, the player has the option to customize the three protagonists' wardrobe and appearance. There is less customisation available compared to that of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (e.g. changing the body mass of the 3 characters isn't available as it was with CJ in San Andreas). The availability of tattoos, haircuts and ability to apply and change facial hair has returned from San Andreas after being missing from previous titles in the HD universe.

Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum and would much appreciate it if somebody could explain to me how I can view GTA V on full wide screen on my monitor, as I am getting black bars on both sides.

I have set my res to 2560X1080 using in game graphics option and also enabled 21:9 aspect ratio with all graphic settings fairly maxed.

Could someone explain to me how to get full widescreen gameplay for this panel step by step?

Thanks guys

Anand :rockout:

He did this BY changing the aspect ratio hex values.

I've compared his patched EXE with original, and see that he used "54 55 15 40" value.

Here is patched EXE for "Finance and Felony":

Is it safe to use this fix without getting banned from GTA Online?

@AXLiberty Is your updated fix for the Steam or the RSC Version of the game?
Edit: Sorry didn't see that you use the DVD Version, so I guess it's the RSC Version.
Altough can you tell me the original hex code I have to change to your value? Would make the search much easier :)

"39 8E E3 3F" — original

Change to one of this:
"54 55 15 40" — by @zens
"26 B4 17 40" — by @Deisi (2560x1080)

"39 8E E3 3F" — original

Change to one of this:
"54 55 15 40" — by @zens
"26 B4 17 40" — by @Deisi (2560x1080)

Hiya, I used 'Zen's' value and noticed that the hud/menus etc appear to be 'stretched' on my 3440x1440 display. It seems as though zen is using the 2560x1080 screen which is then stretched further to suit a 3440 display. Thoughts? Is there a more a value that is better suited for 3440x1440 displays?

Thanks!

That's all we have.
Deisi wrote:
8A E3 18 40 is for 3440x1440

You can try to make your own value. As example:

2560x1080
=> 2560/1080 = 2,37037037 = 0x4017B426 = "26 B4 17 40"

3440x1440
=> 3440/1440 = 2,38888889 = 0x4018E38A = "8A E3 18 40"

P.S. @zens used this size 2520x1080

Can anyone help me out? I'm trying to play the Steam version (1.35 I guess) at 4K (3840x2160), but the "black bars" that appear for every cutscene left and right are annoying the heck out of me.

Changing game settings (Aspect Ratio to Auto or 16:9, playing with VSync or similar doesn't seem to help).

Flawless Widescreen with the Letterbox Fix enabled doesn't seem to help either.

Would any kind of Hex Edit work as some people have posted the last few pages? And what would I have to do e.g. what "Formatted Value" would fit 16:9 (3840x2160): http://www.wsgf.org/book/export/html/17351 ?

Because of the release of the Redux mod I have started playing gta 5 single player again. Sadly a good 21:9 fix (to remove black bars in cut-scenes and to move the map to the side of the screen) is not available.

AXLiberty wrote:
I've compared his patched EXE with original, and see that he used "54 55 15 40" value.
Here is patched EXE for "Finance and Felony":
https://goo.gl/2rohqU (DVD/Warehouse version of GTA V)

I remember Zens's fixes being quite elegant, but when I try to replicate his mod, the hud and menu's are stretched (black bars are almost gone and the map is in the right place though). The question is, why replacing 39 8E E3 3F with 54 55 15 40 isn't enough to fix the current version of the game? I found older versions of the mod on my back-up drive and just like AXLiberty did, I compared them and the only adjustment was that 39 8E E3 3F was replaced with 54 55 15 40.

It would also help a lot if any more experienced modders can help us out.

I have also just started playing single player again. For another reason really: I just recently got an nv surround setup (5760*1080). But since I'm a complete noob at everything regarding mm-gaming I may need some help.

Eager to try out my new multi-monitor setup I simply fired up GTA5 and selected 5760*1080 as resolution. The results were not ... how shall I put this ... according to my expectations.. The problem was that the left monitor was somehow selected as "centre" monitor, causing the rightmost two monitors to display the rest of the image. Needless to say the fov was whack on that 2/3 of the display.

So it would be nice if someone could just give me a pointer to which settings I should modify. Are all multi monitor settings under the Display menu?

That sounds weird. :wtf:
Are you sure you have actually enabled the Nvidia Surround mode in the Nvidia Control Panel, and aligned the monitors correct before starting the game?

Is there currently any working solution for the cutscenes?

Current version: 1.36
Platform: Steam

Gameplay obviously works fantastic in 21:9 at 3440x1440 resolution but cutscenes force back into 16:9 breaking immersion.

I am looking all over for just a cutscene fix or directions on how to do it myself.

Thanks

P.S. I have the latest verison of Flawless Widescreen which has an (outdated?) fix included 2.1.102 - Rev. 4 by HaYDeN. Unfortunately this does not work.

P.P.S. I have done some heavy digging online to see if I can find out a working method (via hex editing) etc for an elegant removal of the black bars for single player cutscenes specifically for the 3440x1440 resolution and have had absolutely no luck. It is surprising to me that such a hugely popular Triple A title like Grand Theft Auto 5 would not have community fixes for this in extreme abundance when you can find the same kind of fixes for much more obscure titles easily. Just an observation is all.

For those gaming on 4K TVs, I've created a guide on how to fix the black bar problem in GTA V: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =806615157

Other games like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Assassin's Creed Syndicate also suffer from this and it's basically due to the max supported resolution of the display having a different aspect ratio to the native resolution.

Don't think it'll help any for ultra-wide though as I assume the 16:9 black bars were added to prevent you from seeing stuff they didn't intend to be seen in cutscenes.

Thanks man, this finally solved my problem from last page, it was driving me crazy and I didn't want to play it without a fix. Now I can finally play the game without really annoying Black Bars during Cutscenes.

Not sure why people are saying cutscenes are fixed. The Steam link is for people with 4K displays, not ultrawides. And Flawless Widescreen doesn't seem to be working anymore (with regards to cutscenese, the FOV still works).

Dunno if this thread is outdated or something but hey! I dosen't hurt to try. So I just bought the game and didn't know before hand that this game had such annoying black bars which seems like they added for no reason at all due to the cutscenes being just in-game shoots. So I just turn of the game after like 30 minutes or so cause I couldn't bare to play with it. I tried to used the hxd to edit the hex but the game always declines the acces to edit it. So I'm out of options and guess if someone kind here who got an exe of the game (not steam, so I guess it's just the retail one) could upload it somewhere so I could download it. Need 2560x1080 res for version 1.41.
Thanks in advance if anyone could help.

Just found something! You have to remove the support for the 4096x2160 resolution and it will go to 3840x2160 by creating an EDID override.

Is this the proper thread for discussing Flawless Widescreen for GTA?

If so, I'd like to point out that there is a third zoom mode not accounted for in the program. FW has adjustments for left trigger aiming with and without iron sights, but not for right-trigger aiming.

If you use a controller, you can gently pull the right trigger to aim. This will pull the game back to it's default FOV in first-person (not the non-iron-sights zoom level), so if you have first-person FOV adjusted, clicking the right trigger to blind fire will cause the game to "wobble" as it quickly changes FOV in and out in quick succession.

So I've tried this and it seems to work but at high cost:

The HUD is stretched, the menu is stretched AND displaced (button indicators are drawn beyond the screen). Subtitles are also drawn beyond the screen.

I was wondering though. What are these black bars actually made of? Are they a solid color texture that is adjusted (since it is animated) or is it a dynamic FOV change? Could it be something else?

If it's a texture then it would be easy to make it transparent.

This fix is only good for playing cutscenes (without subtitles) and moving the HUD out of the way, but it's game breaking due to the moved button indicators and general text drawn beyond the screen.

Following up on this fix as for now it is the only one available that I found to correct the pillarboxes in cutscenes. Here are the results: https://imgur.com/a/OmMgJ

But this fix has issues where every 2D object drawn is stretched and moved slightly beyond the screen so Subtitles, Ammo Counter and Button Indicators are not visible.

So I have modified my GTA5.exe hex values to work for 21:9 as posted above.

I then installed the 21:9 Mini Map HUD Fix (https://www.gta5-mods.com/misc/3440x144 ... 78e4335945)
s also recommended above but I my HUD is still stretched way out of the screen and is not visible.

Has someone got 21:9 cutscenes and working HUD for version 1.46 (Arena War DLC) ?

Any help much appreciated thanks.

Need a working hex code for 3440x1440 for 1.46 for the cutscenes. The old code did not work for me. The screen is horrible streched so I used my safed unmodified .exe again. I have the downloadble version.

the only way to fix correctly the HUD is editing the configuration file, is located here:
\Grand Theft Auto V\update\update.rpf\common\data\ui\frontend.xml
this is the file that need to be edited to fit at 21:9 but i don't know how to edit it someone can help me?
